Bad Idea

I know. I’m whipped. The cat got his own room because Brittany asked. It’s not like we need to use it anyways. That sounds like a trap. What do you need help with Puckerman? 

Nothing wrong with being whipped. I was whipped at one point. Also, I’m kind of wrapped around Beth’s finger, so I get where you’re coming from. No, no. Not a trap. At least I don’t think. I might need some help decorating in the future, and you know that I’m no good at stuff like that. It’s just stuff like picking out furniture and such. Because I did a thing.

If I don’t put it in the basement, she’ll demand a whole room, and Lord T already has his own room. The damn cat sleeps with us. I might need some help assembling cat furniture. Don’t you dare laugh. 

Whoa, whoa. Wait a second. Lord T has a room of his own? Really? Well, if you need help assembling cat furniture, I can help you assemble whatever you need. There is no laughing from me. Because I might need your help with something a bit later.

T-minus five days until opening night and as excited as I am to see my kiddos perform, I also feel like I’m going to throw up everywhere. Is it normal to be this nervous? I don’t think I’ve felt this nervous since I was performing, I thought it would be less nerve-wracking on the other end.

I’m sure it’s normal to be nervous. Jitters are always a normal thing anyways. Maybe get some ginger ale or sprite for the throwing up feeling? Well, I can’t wait to see it. I know these kids have been working hard.

I don’t know, and I don’t want to test if she will. I’ll let her have a unicorn shrine or something in the basement. I know the list goes on, I feel like I’ve been renovating this kitchen for years. 

Yeah, I could understand that. You’re just going to put it in the basement? Well, if you need any help, let me know. At least with like putting stuff together and what not.

Shimming herself to get more comfortable in the chair that she had sat in, she folded her arms across her chest, taking in a look of the male. “Shit, I don’t know. Aren’t you supposed to be the mentor here?” She asked, curse words slipping out of her mouth. She tended to get a little too comfortable, especially around the teachers that weren’t really teachers. “And how exactly am I supposed to address you? Coach? Puckerman? Puck? What’s the formality here?” She questioned, an eyebrow quirking up in response.

At her question, a sigh fell from his lips. Puck let his jaw tighten as he looked at her. “Yeah I am,” he said before looking down. “It doesn’t help that I don’t know what I’m doing. Or what I’m supposed to do. I’ve never had to do this before. At least not as an actual mentor.” He briefly thought about when he had to mentor Jake after he graduated high school. “Uh, Coach is fine. I always called my football coaches Coach.” He looked at Mira, swallowing hard. “What do you want to know about me? Or my time in New Directions?”

“alright, so we’re in the same boat with this assignment, good to know,” jaxon said with a laugh of his own, throwing his arms around the back of the chair he was in to get comfortable. “i know, my mom keeps telling me to get a planner or at least use my phone but then i forget to do that too,” 

“i think schuester just wants the students to get to know the staff better? so maybe it’s just like, what was high school like for you? i dunno, but for the glee kids we have to work with our mentors to get a song to preform, preferably one you did or one you liked pretty well,” the boy explained, shrugging as he spoke.

“Yeah same. My brother’s mom keeps telling me the same thing, and I keep trying to remember to do that, but I’m like you. I keep forgetting.” He looked down at the calendar on his desk, noticing how blank it was. Puck chuckled before looking back at the younger male.

Nodding, Puck thought for a moment at Jaxon’s question. He had no idea what to say really. “Well, I mowed my way though almost all of the females at McKinley, I sucked at my classes and almost didn’t graduate, but I became a part of a family with New Directions. I also had a kid Sophomore year. So yeah.. high school was interesting.” He ran a hand through his hair. “But as far as songs go.. Sweet Caroline, Hot for Teacher, Fat Bottomed Girls, and Beth. Just a few to name, but there are a few more solos in there.”

He was a sweet one that she knew, even if he didn’t let other’s see this side of him she knew it was still there deep down. With a small groan she pushed herself up so she sat on her knees and glanced down at him with a small twinkle in her eyes. “I mean if you really wanted to make it better you could be the awesome person I know you are and watch Funny Girl with me…”

Watching her push herself up, he propped himself up onto his elbows. “What?” He slowly asked the question, noticing the look in her eye. Tongue ran over his teeth before he laughed a little. “I guess that I could be an awesome person. I know that I originally came in here to ask if you were hungry and wanted to get some dinner.” He playfully rolled his eyes before adding a sigh to it. “I guess we could always order take out or something, if you’re into getting dinner and hanging out.”

Mira was not looking forward to the task she had been put up to for a week. She wasn’t even in Glee Club, but here it was required for all students to participate in and not just the Glee kids. What would she even do with Puck’s advice? Trade in her high tops for army boots? No thank you. She didn’t expect to come away with some riveting news, what could she come away with from a guy who barely graduated high school? Regardless she didn’t feel like getting in trouble again for not participating in whatever Principal Schuester had pulled out of his behind. Going into the male’s office, passing by the stench of jockstraps and AXE body spray, she opened the door and plopped down into a chair. “Looks like your my mentor, Puckerman. Let’s get this shindig started, I have dance at four.” She said, folding her arms against her chest.

Puck still wasn’t sure what this whole mentor thing was about or why Schuester even wanted to do it, but he didn’t really have a choice. And since he didn’t really pay attention to who he was supposed to be mentoring, he figured that they would seek him out if they had wanted to do the task. Lost in thought, he was abruptly interrupted when someone opened the door to his office, he looked up, not expecting Mira to walk through the door. “Uh,” he started, a bit shocked that she just kind of walked into the office. “Okay. So, how do you want to get started?” He sat his pen down, sitting back in his chair, eyes on the girl.

I picked cream. I don’t think she’ll mind changing it, but I picked so I could avoid a purple colored kitchen, or something crazy like that. But, I could just pick out cabinets or something. 

I mean, it is a good, solid color. Would she really go with a purple colored kitchen? Cabinet, counter tops, flooring, knobs, sinks, appliances.. the list goes on and on.

Rachel could feel a smile of ease slip across her face as she heard the familiar voice. Turning her head to the side she took a glance at the most badass of them all. “Yeah I guess so it’s just been an off day today. Nothing really wrong, I promise Noah.”

When he heard her say that nothing was wrong, Puck started studying Rachel’s face, trying to see if she really was okay or not. Hearing her saying his legal name, he wanted to laugh. In fact, he wanted to laugh every time she did because she was the only one that was allowed to call him that. “Can I do anything to help make it better?” The thought of dinner slowly pushing towards the back of his mind.

“Do you ever just get into the mood where you just want to say screw everything just so you can go home and curl up in your bed? Yeah I guess it’s one of those kind of days.” Rachel stated as she laid on the floor of the Trouble Tones room her eyes closing as she let out a small sigh.

Puck had come to find Rachel to see if she had wanted to go grab a bite to eat, but when he saw her laying in the floor, he moved to just lay down beside her. “I feel you,” he said before laying down completely. “You okay though?” He turned his head to look over at her before putting a hand behind his head.

jaxon had most definitely zoned out when being told what exactly this mentor/mentee project was supposed to consist of or if there was supposed to be some finished project, so he was really just taking what he had heard from others in his classes and hoping that was right. most of them had just talked to their mentors about song choice and high school memories. which now that jaxon was thinking about it, he and his coach had hardly had any conversations that didn’t include anything football related, so though he wasn’t sure what to except, he couldn’t help but feel like this might be an interesting time for them both.

the boy pushed in the door as he heard his name, walking into the oh so familiar room where he had many talks about his dropped attendance at the end of last year. shaking off the memory, jaxon continued in the room and plopped down in one of the not so comfortable chairs across from the large desk. “as always, i’m fashionably late to getting around to this whole mentor thing, but hey, better late than never.” he chuckled, moving to chuck his backpack in the floor by his feet. “i’m guessing since you haven’t hunted me down either that you forgot too?”

Puck shook his head. “Don’t worry about it. I kind of forgot about the whole thing, to be honest.” His mind had been all over the place primarily about his jobs, but other things nonetheless. “I guess I probably need to write more things down so I can remember them,” he chuckled before sitting back in his chair.

“So what do you have to do really? Do you have to like ask questions about songs or..?” Puck had no clue what the kid was supposed to do, but he was willing to help out him out in a f. Bringing his leg up, he placed it on his knee, eyes looking over at the younger male. “I’m willing to help in whatever way I can. Rather it be questions or trying to find performances for you.”

“Have you ever considered that there’s a strategy to these sort of things? Skipping class is an form of art.” He said almost a little too comfortably in front of the faculty member. “You want to call my parents? Don’t you have better things to worry about than some kid taking a smoke break? Like that Jaxton dude getting a little too comfortable in that school shoot role?  ”

Puck tried to bite back the laugh that wanted to escape him, but it still partly came out. “You do realize that you’re talking to the king of figuring out how to skip classes. I skipped classes all of the time in high school.” He shook his head, wiping at his mouth. “Well, I mean, there’s always detention. Or suspension even, depending on what Schuester decides. And I seriously doubt that he would just decide to shoot up a school.”

Apparently its our ‘shared’ space or something, so I need to contribute to all the things in it. They all look the fucking same, I don’t get why we need to pick from the 1000 shades of cream, it doesn’t matter which one it is. 

What if you pick out cabinets or counter tops instead? That way, it’s something a bit easier to pick out. What if it’s a different color from cream? Would she be okay with that?

when he heard that mr. schuester had assigned a mentor week for the kids of mckinley, jaxon may have been one of the only ones that actually felt kind of excited. excited to get advice from another faculty member than mr. evans and ms. fabray. he was excited to talk to an alumni from glee, to talk about their memories and favorite times they remembered from their own times in glee. so, when he found out it was his football coach he was paired with, he was actually pretty happy to have an excuse to talk glee with him. he had heard the stories that the coach hadn’t been as into the whole glee experience as maybe ms. berry or mr. evans had, but maybe that was exactly what jaxon needed. he was still technically new to the group, and still struggling to find the balance in sports and the arts, something mr. puckerman would probably have so helpful words for. 

 so, as soon as the bell rang to signal the end of classes for the day, jaxon immediately found his way to couch puckerman’s office to finally get to have their chat after the busy week. “hey coach, it’s harmon,” the boy called as he knocked the the wooden door, waiting for a response instead of just barging in like he and the rest of the team usually did.

Puck had heard through the grapevine that Mr. Schue had assigned mentors to all of the kids in the glee clubs around the school. He remembers names mentioned to him, but he couldn’t exactly remember who Schuester had told him it was. It was currently a foreign thought in his head, considering most of the songs that he had performed were group numbers or even duets. Rarely ever any solos and he was kind of okay with that. He had been working on some new plays for the upcoming football season, but Puck had hit a block. His mind kept reverting to other things, and no matter what he did, he couldn’t stay focused.

Hearing the knock at the door, his head shot up. “Hey, Harmon. Come on in.” He flipped a few pages into his playbook, going over another play. “What’s up?” Eyes moved to look at the younger male, before sitting back in his chair. In that moment, he realized that Harmon was one of the mentees that was assigned to him.
