Maybe coming home for Halloween was a bad idea - going to the pumpkin farm with your little cousin definitely was.

You’d driven up from university in London to your mum’s new house in Birmingham for the half-term, only because your friends were all going home too. The minute you arrived you were roped into taking the ten year old girl to pick out pumpkins for the house, and of course, she chose the biggest pumpkin in England.

You pulled up in the driveway of your parents’ house, hardly noticing the unknown one next to it. Your cousin immediately abandoned you and skipped into the house, leaving you completely helpless.

Actually, struggling to haul a large orange vegetable from the boot of your car to your front door wasn’t that embarrassing until you realise someone is watching.

“Need a hand, love?”

The deeper voice startled you so much you jumped back, nearly dropping the pumpkin from the car. It would have fallen and broken if your knight in shining armour hadn’t come to your rescue. He pushed it back to safety before grinning at you.

“Um, thanks.” You two were within extremely close proximity and it was close enough to spot the freckles lightly tracing his upper lip and cheekbones. 

You coughed, stepping away just a little. Jesus Christ, he was good-looking. Never in your life did you think a plain white shirt could look so perfect. And why was he wearing sunglasses? It was October! You didn’t know, and frankly you didn’t care.

“If it’s not too much bother,” You began, “Can you please help me carry this pumpkin inside my house, it’s three times bigger than me.”

“So I can see,” He laughed. God, even his laugh was attractive.

With complete ease, he lifted the pumpkin and carried it in through your front door. You followed behind sheepishly, looking defeated. 

“Thank you so much,” You told him sincerely once you both got the festive item placed in the kitchen.

“No bother at all, love,” He smirked, looking over his glasses and sending you a cheeky wink.

It’s fine - he’ll leave now and you’ll never have to see him and his perfect face ever again and he’ll never have to make you feel so giddy and giggly just by looking at you.

“Ah, darling,” Your mother began as she entered the room. “I see you’ve met Bradley. He’s Anne-Marie’s son - you now Anne? My work friend? Yes, well they’re spending Halloween with us - they live just down the street…”

You zoned your mother out and gaped at Bradley. He smirked gently at you, leaning on the counter as your mum blabbered on.

“Brad,” He smiles, shaking you hand. “And you must be the infamous Y/N.”
