aw thanks !! hm , tbh i feel that he did have that sort of addiction when he was younger / still going through the academy . he’s young , reckless , his insecurities with his semblance hasn’t kicked in yet , so he’s taking advantage of it . i have the idea that he relied heavily on his semblance before he was forced to become humble . so when he was arrogant , he likely got into a lot of trouble and debt by using his semblance to feed his gambling habit , and had to get fished back out by ironwood . he couldn’t really kick the habit until james gave him an ultimatum that forced him to quit or find alternatives to quell the temptation . i say that he still struggles with it now , but it wasn’t as bad as it used to be . he has distractions now and things to occupy his mind .
