The early episode in the 90s series where Moominpappa is complaining that nothing ever happens always cracks me up because… when is something NOT happening the Moominvalley? Like, two episodes later he’s almost eaten by tigers. Why can’t you write a book about that, Moominpapa?

Words could not be strung together in any way to properly express how excited I am at the prospect of a new Moomin movie directed by Rebecca Sugar. I know this news has been out for a bit, but I’m still not over it. All the new revivals of Tove’s work lately have been incredible and I’ve loved seeing how different creative teams have tackled the world of Moominvalley.

I think we’d all be a lot happier if more people engaged with ‘children’s’ media on a genuine level. Like, there’s so much to learn from family friendly medias like Over the Garden Wall, any Studio Ghibli movie, Fantastic Mr. Fox, The Muppets, etc (and those are just some of my favorites). There’s just a sort of joy you can only get from that genre that people have stigmatized in the art of growing up, and I find it all really sad.

I truly believe there couldn’t be a better soundtrack for Over the Garden Wall than the one we have, it captures the oddity and charm of the show so succinctly and perfectly. Every time I watch it I’m reminded that the music is a delight in of itself. I also love how Meet Me in the Woods by Lord Huron has sort of been adopted by the fandom. As a big fan of Lord Huron, I definitely think of Wirt and Greg every time I hear that song.

As I rewatch OTGW for the billionth time, I can’t help but keep thinking that the atmosphere and art direction in it doesn’t get nearly enough praise. It was one of the first shows that really sparked my love for animation when I was younger and I still carry that nostalgia with me in my recent watches, there’s just something almost indescribable in the moods and emotions that are displayed from even just the background art alone. Perhaps this sounds silly considering the cartoon style it has, but idk. I always seem to discover new charms and bits in the animation every time I watch, and I think that’s beautiful in itself.

I’m so over your nonsense, Dark Bramble. Let me see my friend Feldspar. Let me through the sea of anglerfish, I’m tired of them killing me and ending my loop. Please Dark Bramble, I beg you.
