🗣️I KNOW THIS IS LONG, I drew an art and since I know he’s not a fan favorite! (One at the top and one at the bottom)

I already know this title is going to set off a lot of the QJJ fans so let me start this by saying: All of Guo Weilis actions towards Gu Jin and Xiao Chiye are NOT going to be validated or condoned in this post. This is not a “defend him.” This is simply my own personal opinion on him/ headcanons for him.

Let me start off: I love books for the sole reason that we are only seeing a snippet of characters lives. It can be a great moment of that persons life or most commonly: an event (traumatic or not) that changes how characters are (emotionally/ fundamentally/etc.).

That event then sets us up for watching their growth (could be good, could be really bad! Who knows) and we as the audience get to feeling a certain way about them depending on: how much we’re relating/ sympathizing or empathizing to/with them AND OR The relations between them and characters we sympathize/ empathize or relate to.

A big reoccurring dynamic duo trend in T97s work Ballad of Sword and Wine I’d like to gush about is the tension of forced comrades. Of course we have Fei Sheng and Huo Lingyun as a great example. BUT THIS AINT ABOUT THEM! Strap in because if you’ve read this far you’re going to realize I’m down bad👀

My personal favorite take and opinion on Guo Weili in bulletins:

* He isn’t the oldest General on the field, but he’s not the youngest. Im gonna go out on a limb and guess that he’s around Xiao Jimings age. (I don’t really have any evidence for this, I just prefer to imagine it this way given the emotional depth it would have.) I imagine he had to work his ass off with little reward to get to the status of a general (given to him by Xiao Jiming himself). Especially given his garbage attitude, the fact that no one f-cking likes him lmao. He’s cranky and rude, he has a very narrow minded personality, and he’s just overall piss poor with his social skills. That being said, I feel that it doesn’t matter when he joined. If he joined the Iron Calvary during the time either just before sweet silver wolf daddy (AKA Xiao Fangxu) retired or during the time secondary sugar baby (Xiao Jiming) came to be in charge. Either way he probably HEAVILY felt influenced by Xiao Jiming, at least emotionally. I like to think he deeply empathized with him and here’s why:

- Guo Weili had to watch (probably even instigated a lot of harassment as well.) as Xiao Jiming climbed himself up the mountain of harsh criticism. In the eyes of the Iron Calvary he was just a teenage boy who didn’t even resemble Xiao Fangxus wolfish domineering energy: he didn’t live up to his father. My guess is Guo Weili was probably indifferent of him at first, being someone who was just another number in the lot. Yet he definitely witnessed as Xiao Jiming worked hard to walk his own path, face his own hardships head on, and overtime win the respect he deserved, for himself. That kind of dedication and determination and perseverance probably resonated with Guo Weili deeply. Then to have that individual recognize him for the same ethics, it had to be glorifying. It had to have been something he held in a prideful place of his inner self. He did spend half of his life fighting Hahelu. He watched Xiao Jiming break down the walls of disdain towards himself and resounded a new kind of leadership and raised morale in his own way. despite Guo Weilis piss poor personality, Xiao Jiming still acknowledged his potential and the benefit of having him in a commanding position. To not be influenced and emotionally swayed by this would be bad writing.

* A headcanon I want to pile on top of Guo Weili. (As a General, he was single handedly promoted by Xiao Jiming. So I like to think in his head he believes they’re friends) Even though he isn’t family or anything and nobody likes him, I like to believe he attended Xiao Jiming and Lu Yuzhis wedding. I saw someone on twitter say that he’s super Loud-Mouthed Chinese uncle coded and that had me crying and laughing cuz it’s true 😭😩 to imagine this man, bitchy that he had to attend a wedding full of a bunch of people he didn’t like, just to support the man he respects has me in stitches. But what really gets me, is he saw this person that he admires and chooses to follow achieve his deepest happiness: the love of Xiao Jimings life loves him back, marries him, and later goes on to have a son with him. 😭😭😭 I can only imagine how Guo Weili must have been secretly really proud and happy of his commander, inwardly rejoicing.

Until little brother wolf trails his way back home:

The return of Xiao Chiye was very heavily weighed down with everyone circling rumors that now that Xiao Jiming was injured (a deep wound on the Iron Calvary’s morale, let alone Guo Weilis.) that a REAL prodigy was upon them.

Guo Weili watched as the person he admired and respected work his ass off, trudging through the snow and ice of everyone’s harsh cold expectations, had his brother confiscated by the capital as a “reward”; was injured, had to watch his father put back on the armor he was never supposed to wear again…. Only to be surrounded by every word being “the son who actually will make a difference.” The one who was rightfully going to take his father’s position simply because he resembled him more. Frankly, I’m pissed too, Guo Weili. 😤

What a kick in the gut.

Add in the stress of being in an active battle, constantly living with your life and your men’s lives on the line.. bro was a loose canon about to loose his sh-t over a pin drop 🫠 and honestly, if there’s nobody else willing to question what and why the f-ck

someone they don’t acknowledge for anything but their father and brothers name sakes got put in charge, that in itself can be dangerous. This all doesn’t validate anything, I just like Guo Weili. He’s still a major asshole. He really deserved much more than just Gu Jin punching him a few times. Gu Jin didn’t deserve to suffer the blunt of his anger. I just like to see it from his perspective. He’s just incredibly human. I like to imagine his character as more than just a stepping stone for Xiao Chiye to prove himself to the Iron Calvary.

Personal opinions:

Now: that part of my really long rant on this man is over, let’s get to my delusions 💖

I’ll start this section off by saying: I like that everyone dislikes Guo Weili. By all means 👀 hate him, cuz that means he’s mine all mine 💖💖💖💖

I often see stuff on how people constantly say: “Guo Weili, they could never make me like you!!” “F🐟ck this b🐸st🍬rd!! Guo Weili deserved to have Gu Jin rock his sh🍭t!”

🧎🏻‍♀️‍➡️yall are so right. Give him to me, he’ll never have a peaceful night again! I’ll make sure of it!

🗣️ I LOVE CRANKY MEN! I LOVE THE FACT HE HAS A CHIPPED TOOTH! I LOVE THE FACT HE IS A BRAT!! Let me at him!!!! Let’s all agree on one thing: if I’m ever transmigrating into QJJ I’m putting that man on a LEASH! And it will be my honor to yank him around 🙂‍↕️

🥰 Now!! Some headcanons:

- Guo Weili has a bad relationship with his dad, and when he left home, it was on bad terms. His dad is an alcoholic. A cranky old man who he gets his bad personality from.

- He’s got younger brothers or a younger brother but he or they are not fully related to him (half siblings) and also are nothing like him or his dad. They left home not wanting to end up like their father and they didn’t become soldiers. They don’t keep in touch. Maybe they tried coming around once or twice but it was for money and nothing else and 💯 Guo Weili beat their 🗣️sses.

- He has a soft spoken wife that he genuinely loves and respects and he doesn’t raise his voice at her (I already told you I’m delusional so don’t even start 👀) she is precious and cute and sews him winter coats and worries about him when she hears that he gets into scuffles but when he is home they don’t talk about the war or anything along those lines. They just talk casual about repairs to be done around the house or what winter or spring may be like or what they might bring 💖🥰 [he’s also extremely loyal to said wife and that’s why when QZ made a remark about how they should go play with her when Hassen was attacking he covered his chest like a little flustered school girl.
