14. Which Asian ql tropes do you want to send to the trash heap?

I am so sorry but I do NOT like montages of a couples being cutesy. There are some exceptions but most of the time I'm like sigh...I also hate when shitty parents are forgiven without them having to work for it even a little. I love complex parent characters, but that's not complex, just dumb!

15. If you could banish one story setting from Asian ql, which would it be?

Here I come with my nuance, but I think I can enjoy every setting if done right. I am picky with office settings, but there are a few I really love as well so I don't think I'd banish any

16. If you could remake one Asian ql, which would it be and how would you change it?

Oh it would be Last Twilight and Day would not regain his vision and still lead a happy life! Mhok's trauma would be treated with more care and instead of the "I'm glad you broke up with me", they would actually discuss Mhok's fears and Day's insecurities WE COULD HAVE HAD IT ALLLLL

Jin Guangyao from The Untamed MY BELOVED!!!! Oh he's vile and I live for it

7. Who is your favorite friend character in Asian ql?

OOOH that's a hard one, there are so many friend characters I love! The first that comes to mind is the wonderful Rose from Laws of Attraction. Jet and Charn from Khemjira also had my entire heart. OH and a huge fan of Yok and that entire group tbh from Not Me!

9. Which Asian ql couple do you think is overrated?

Kinn and Porsche did nothing for me personally...I wasn't super invested in Khem and Pheem's relationship in Khemjira either🫣

12) Which Asian country's ql do you want to watch more of?

I just finished Gaya Sa Pelikula, a Filipino BL, and ADORED it, so I definitely want to check out more QLs from the Phillipines. Marahuyo Project and Pearl Next Door are on my list. Other than that, I think Taiwan. I have only seen Oh No! Here Comes Trouble (which isn't technically a ql) and Wishing Upon The Shooting Stars (which I have yet to finish but only because I don't want it to be over yet) and loved both. Movie wise, I have seen Marry My Dead Body and Your Name Engraved Herein, which I ALSO loved. So I am curious to check out more from Taiwan as well.

13) Which Asian ql tropes get you every time?

Love a rooftop confession, must be said. I don't care if it's cliche, it hits every time. I do also love a good rivals to lovers OR love between opposing sides (like VegasPete or Bangkok Boy)

Gaya Sa Pelikula was exactly what I needed and I'm glad everyone told me to watch it. It feels like a warm weighted blanket.

The kindness the show extended to both Karl and Vlad. Karl is valid for being confused and taking his time, not being ready to come out, and Vlad is valid for wanting to be open and proud. And the show doesn't really take either side, but assures both that it's okay.

While it may have some tropes, nothing ever feels like it's there just to be ticked off a list of what couples need to act like, it's just so natural. The whole show feels so realistic and natural.

I felt so SEEN and it was all so relatable! I almost teared up whenever Vlad and Sue called because genuinely Sue is me and Vlad is my friend. Their dynamic is EXACTLY like ours; it felt like looking in a mirror! And both Karl and Vlad had so many moments that I felt deep in my soul.

Things are said out LOUD! NO EUPHEMISMS! Sexuality, stereotypes, and labels are all discussed without skirting around it. It's no "they just happen to be gay" show, no, it's explicitly gay. And that's so fucking refreshing. It's made by and for queer people and I love that so much. It never feels like a glamorized, glossed over depiction, but just so authentic.

The women in Karl and Vlad's life are so so important. I feel like a lot of BLs forget that women (both allies and in the community) are SO important in gay lives. Judit plays a huge role in Vlad's life (and she's not perfect! they have a nuanced but loving relationship), Vlad and Sue are each other's confidants, Anna is Karl's bestie and helps him so much.

I love how much this show is about being seen. Anna tells Karl in the end not to come out, but to come out of his shell. He's hidden himself for so long, not being able to be himself and living out his dead brothers' life, and it's time he was himself and let himself live his life. It's so liberating.

The SOUNDTRACK!!!!! Every song in this show was perfectly picked and was so atmospheric.

While this show made me very emotional at times, it was also so effortlessly funny. I laughed out loud so often :)

I also loved the family dynamics. They were nuanced, heartbreaking, and felt so real. It really shaped our characters and their actions made sooo much sense after learning more about their past.
