There’s a sense of ownership, like, “Okay, I need to do these sets of people who I will be able to represent - with justice.” It’s going to be, of course, impossible to encompass all of those experiences in just one project. But in orienting ourselves with SOGIE and all the different lived experiences that other people go through, our portrayal is done with a sense of big responsibility.

Down to Earth Slice of Life

Examples: Moonlight Chicken, She Loves to Cook and She Loves to Eat, What Did You Eat Yesterday, SOTUS, Burnout Syndrome (kinda!! slice of pretty messed up lives)

I love down to earth stories that are just about people and their lives. Where if you were to summarize what the plot was it doesn't sound so very exciting, but it doesn't matter, because characters are interesting enough that you either can't stop thinking about them or you just want to spend time with them. Stories that feel like they could actually happen in real life are often the most compelling to me.

Time Shenanigans

Examples: Be My Favourite, Triage, Love for Love's Sake. Adjacent - Vice Versa.

Timeloops, going back in time, resets, switcharounds, I love all of it. Time shenanigans stories often revolve around regrets and second chances and ripples our choices make. And something about tweaking a behaviour just a little bit to get a desired result based on prior knowledge tickles my brain.

Second Chance Romance

Examples: Let Free the Curse of Taekwondo, Life In Smokey Blue, The Ex-Morning

When you think about it it's like a mirror to the time shenanigans stories. Also about regrets and second chances, but often with a more bittersweet tinge. I love seeing people that have some deep history with each other and getting to uncover that. It's also interesting to see the portrayal of how people can change over the years. In real life I would never champion "get back with your ex" but in QL it's a different story!!

City Guy Comes To Farm

Examples: Tale of a Thousand Stars, Love Tractor, Hometown Romance, My Magic Prophecy also kind of counts

I love it when a slightly spoiled urban adjusted character gets dramatically lifted out of their comfort zone into a lovely but not always comfortable village. I love it when they stumble and fumble and then learn and find love and community and rediscover the point of living along the way. I eat that shit up every time. Please make more.

Thai Comedy

Examples: Ossan's Love TH, MuTeLuv: DivaDevaMata, The Trainee, Fish Upon The Sky, Me and Thee, A Dog And A Plane
