The best thing for me, as an ex- Starbucks employee, is the horror that genuinely is the milk delivery when itās only you and one other shift member. Though, I did end up learning how to carry six individual gallons of milk at once.
Also that change from Customer Service ā¢Ā®Ā© voice back to normal to informal joking-threats is amazing
Yeah the whiplash from āHi welcome to starbucks how can I help you! :)ā to āIāLL FUCK YOUR WIFEā killed me.
MILK.
DELIVERY.
Almost pissed myself laughing reading this addition holy shit

Vicente Aleixandre, from Sound of the War; A Longing for the Light: Selected Poems, 1979
Me: -so after it became apparent that āretardedā had become a term of abuse, educators and psychiatrists switched to other terms like āhandicappedā or āspecial needsā in an attempt to -
George Orwell, whom Iāve dragged forward in time with my arcane powers because Iām lonely and want someone to talk to: You have a telephone in your pocket?Ā It listens to you all the time?
Me: Never mind about that, the point is, young people now mock each other by sending the wheelchair emoji - thatās a type of electronic heiroglyph - to suggest mental deficiency and shout SPESHUL!!!! while doing offensive imitations of disabled facial expressions and posture.Ā So any attempt to lexographically make crimethink impossible is pretty much doomed because the meaning of words in everyday conversation canāt be controlled by a dictionary entry, no matter how many Ministry of Truth employees-
Orwell: It reports your location to the telephone company at all times?

So my boyfriend came out as trans last night and I realized something⦠back when we first started dating we identified as lesbians, then I came out as trans and consequently realized Iām bisexual, and now Iām in a gay relationship. So what Iām trying to say is that I have actually been LGBT as a singular person. Every single acronym. I have ascended and reached gay nirvana
the very concept of a āwork life balanceā is such a slap in the face considering how many workers are expected to deal with ridiculous commutes, having to remain professional even off the clock because they represent a company, being called in for a shift at a moments notice and having to drop everything or theyāre fired, doing unpaid overtime etc etc. capitalism has never given the working class the supposed luxury of true free time or a personal life divorced of the working environment and no amount of encouraging people to organise their time better is going to make up for that

I donāt think any piece of art has ever emotionally affected me the way this robot arm piece has affected me. Itās called āCanāt Help Myselfā and itās a robot arm thatās programmed to clean up the fluid thatās constantly leaking out of itself, that looked like a never ending flow of blood. It has programmed dance moves to make it appear to have human gestures. And at first, it seemed happy and proud of its job, dancing around when it had visitors. But three years later, it looks tired, hopeless, and like itās living in a never ending cycle of constantly trying to put itself back together for the entertainment of other people. And when I found out that it had finally stopped working in 2019, essentially dying, I couldnāt help but imagine the relief it mustāve felt and so Iāve been in here crying over a robot arm. š„ŗ It was programmed this way, it truly couldnāt help itself. And no one ever helped him, they just watched.
In this work commissioned for the Guggenheim Museum, Sun Yuan & Peng Yu employ an industrial robot, visual-recognition sensors, and software systems to examine our increasingly automated global reality, one in which territories are controlled mechanically and the relationship between people and machines is rapidly changing. Placed behind clear acrylic walls, their robot has one specific duty, to contain a viscous, deep-red liquid within a predetermined area. When the sensors detect that the fluid has strayed too far, the arm frenetically shovels it back into place, leaving smudges on the ground and splashes on the surrounding walls.
Sun Yuan & Peng Yu are known for using dark humor to address contentious topics, and the robotās endless, repetitive dance presents an absurd, Sisyphean view of contemporary issues surrounding migration and sovereignty. However, the bloodstain-like marks that accumulate around it evoke the violence that results from surveilling and guarding border zones. Such visceral associations call attention to the consequences of authoritarianism guided by certain political agendas that seek to draw more borders between places and cultures and to the increasing use of technology to monitor our environment.
this really is one of my favorite modern art pieces and you cannot do it justice without a video. the speed and manner in which it moves is captivating
