Soaring, Falling

Honestly, Daniel was kind of jealous of the other’s ability to relax like this. Even with a few beers in him, part of Daniel never seemed to be able to just...let go, whilst it seemed as natural as breathing for Matias. One of his hands moved, knuckles playfully nudging at the other’s bare stomach as he trailed off. “Couple of minutes before what? Don’t go leaving me hanging.”

     Evidently having two days off work completely removes my ability to actually focus, hence the disappearing act. Should be round for a bit tonight.

“Well, you’ll have fun, I’m liable to humiliate myself. But, eh, all part of the game.” He was quick to return the smack, his hand colliding with the other’s stomach and letting out a soft laugh at the comment. “Oh come on, you know I can fight my own battles.”

“Oh, definitely a lot better.” Stop staring. Staring is not the thing to be doing. Coughing slightly, it was easy enough to bring his drink to his lips again, reclining on the sofa comfortably. He wasn’t planning on hitting Matias’s level tonight, but hey. A drink or two would hardly hurt, right?

“You’d be surprised at just how seriously some people take their morning coffee. Old mate from school would threaten to remove at least one limb if he didn’t have one.” Of course, Daniel can’t help the grin that curls his lips at the memory, even as he nods. “Sure. If I’m late, you’re getting thrown under the bus, but a Starbucks run sounds good.”

Shoulder’s lifted in response to the other’s question, honestly it was a little of both. Jace was a terrible influence, but he’d just been feeling more...up beat recently. It made a nice chance. “Good mood, mostly. Been a while so probably going overboard.”

“I may have used the last of it when I woke up.” And there’s actual guilt because, yknow, he’s not a big coffee drinker and the other basically looked like he was dying without it. “I mean, starbucks aren’t that far from campus. Pretty sure we keep the business alive just from us”

Daniel has missed the fact the other’s drink had ended up spilled on himself, leaning back a little more in his seat and quietly taking in the view. “Oh, for sure, man. You know what people are like. You sure you should still be wearing it?” Okay, now he was probably pushing his luck. Sue him.

“That...is a very good point. Shut up.” Great, now he’s embarrassed. And gonna have to show his lack of skill. “Let’s go.”

     “Okay, seriously, just because I’m not on the team doesn’t mean I can’t play.” It’s more his lack of aim and height issues that mean he can’t play, but still. He’s allowed to practice without the judging.

“Hey, you said it, not me.” The teasing hint in his voice hasn’t changed, shaking his head a little. He needed to remember to order that mug at some point for the other. Letting out a short laugh even as the other made his denial of his drunken state. “Of course, of course, the part where you’re now down half a drink was entirely intentional.”

“Are you sure it wasn’t three? Two and a half?” He can’t help but tease the other, knowing just what he was like when he was drunk. It was probably cruel to take advantage, but come on. What sort of frat brother wouldn’t? “Well go on then, don’t let me stop you walking in a straight line.”

     “Oh really, only two?” A smirk tugged at Daniel’s lips, even as he shook his head a little. “Only two would explain a lot. Like, your inability to walk in a straight line.”

“Oh, I’d give it a couple of weeks at least. Doesn’t seem to pay much attention over all his yelling from what I’ve heard.”

“Well then, guess I should be glad I mastered that deep and dark art.” His tone was still entirely geared toward teasing the other, even as he carded his fingers through his hair. “Still can’t believe you were that scared of a tiny spider like that. Big scary demons? Sure, understandable, but a teeny tiny thing like that?”

Daniel barely managed to hold back another laugh as he noticed the other looking around, shaking his head a little. “Great, now I feel like I’m slacking for not having the art of fighting in the dark mastered. At least I’ve gotten spider removal down to a T.”

Daniel nodded his head as the other spoke about the protections in place upon the other’s property, not really having been worried about the particular aspect of the trip, but hey. A little time to relax without any kind of worries like that was good in his eyes. “Oh please, like I’d give you that much of a show after the one you’ve already gotten today.” His tone was still teasing, even as he took another bite from his steak. It was good.
