So Scientology has recently been purchasing ad spots on social media sites including Twitter and Facebook. Scientology has always worked hard to recruit young people it seems like theyāre investing in social media as well now. I know most people think Scientology is a joke but itās a seriously dangerous cult which uses fear, extortion, violence, vandalism and various other unethical actions against those who oppose them both inside and outside the church. Here is key information on the abuses committed by Scientology:Ā
ā¢Scientology uses a form of pseudo-therapy called auditing which focuses largely on embarrassing and traumatic memories. Scientology collects the information you share and uses that information to threaten you if you oppose the church. They also charge huge amounts of money for auditing sessions (which is why they really are doing all this).
Ā ā¢They are extremely anti-psychology and psychiatry and pressure you against taking any antidepressants, anti-anxiety medication or any other drugs for mental health.
Ā ā¢They believe homosexuality can be ācuredā and are blatantly homophobic. ā¢Enemies of the church are labeled āsuppressive personsā and it is forbidden to communicate with such people. This isnāt just to limit the negative press they receive but also is a manipulative tool. If you are in the cult and decide to leave or criticize the church you stand the risk of being completely cut off from your friends and family. āSuppressive Personsā are often also harassed, stalked, or threatened.Ā
ā¢If youāre new to Scientology and your family or friends are worried about you being in a cult youāre instructed to cut them out of your life, increasing your reliance on the support system (though thereās nothing supportive about it) the church give to you.Ā
ā¢Scientologyās doctrine includes the concept of āFair Gameā. This basically says that those who are judged a threat to the Church can be punished and harassed by any and all means possible.
Ā ā¢Because of this, they have no moral qualms about having their members lie in court which they use to defend themselves from lawsuits or charges that theyāve broken the law and also to help win lawsuits against their enemies. ā¢They essentially spied on and stole information from the IRS and tried to frame the mayor of Clearwater Florida for a hit and run.Ā
ā¢Scientology filed 50 different lawsuits in one year against the Cult Awareness Network, an anti-cult organization. Using false testimony they won one of the suits and because the organization couldnāt pay the fine Scientology took the organizations name and logo so if you were calling to get out of Scientology youād be unknowingly telling Scientology of your intentions. (For full transparency my mom was a member of the Cult Awareness Network before it was taken over and was sued individually by the Church of Scientology)Ā
ā¢Scientology has an official branch known as the Sea Org, a mixture between a paramilitary group and slavery, comprised of their most dedicated members including many children/teens whoāve been raised in Scientology. This is where some of the most rampant and terrifying abuse in Scientology occurs.Ā
ā¢Sea Org members often work over 100 hours a week for Scientology for around 2$ per hour.
Ā ā¢Sea Org memberās living conditions are terrible; they live in overcrowded communal rooms with up to 12 other people, are not given healthcare unless there is a free clinic in the area, often are forced to miss meals or sleep in order to successfully completed their work.Ā
ā¢Several former Sea Org members have accused the church of physical abuse. ā¢Sea Org members may not have children and women who have become pregnant have reportedly been forced/coerced by their higher-ups to have abortions.Ā
ā¢Leaving Sea Org without permission automatically makes you a suppressive person, so young adults whoāve been raised in Scientology who want to leave are cut off from everyone theyāve ever known with no money or job and getting permission to leave can require 3 years of hard labor, social isolation, and group pressure.
thie above is 100% true. one of my friends has scientology and other cults as a special interest. there are hundreds of pages of documentation of their abuse that you can publicly read about.
itās one of the scariest āreligionsā youāll ever meet if not THE scariest because it was PURPOSELY created to make money. unlike most cults that do have some seed of genuine belief however twisted and off base the founders are, scientology was never a belief system - it was a get rich quick scheme for a terrible hack author who saw that there was more money to be made in manipulating people into a cult and then not letting them leave. higher and higher levels of scientology, which you have to take to be trulyĀ āclearā aka free of evil spirits, will cost you thousands and even millions of dollars. they will literally hook you into a billion year contract and then pursue you for any money you āoweā them, thousands of āback feesā for their religious training, if you try to leave.
oh and it has literally driven people to suicide as part of its goal to keep āsuppressive personsā from spreading information. someone even made a fucking song about its abuses.
stay the fuck away from anything marked scientology or dianetics. narconon (NOT the same as narcotics anonymous, the 12 step program) is also their thing. never even step FOOT into one of their free dianetics āauditing sessionsā because they will use it to manipulate you into joining. they are incredibly persistent and will use every trick in the book to get you on board.
scientology: not even once.
Off the top of my head, a non-exhaustive list of āBrand Namesā used by Scientology:
Narconon
Dianetics
Associate of Better Living and Education (ABLE)
Criminon
Applied Scholastics
Delphi Schools
The Way to Happiness Foundation
Author Service Inc.
Bridge Publications Inc.
Golden Era Productions
New Era Publications
Citizens Commission on Human Rights
The National Commission on Law Enforcement and Social Justice
Do not join any of the organizations.Ā Do not work with them.Ā Do not use their materials.Ā Do not give them your money.Ā Do not sign any documents.

I can add nothing to this post except to say that this is true. Iāve crossed paths with these people several times. Itās a fascinating and terrible psychological control.
Took notes on Scientology from a public speaker and regrettably this is very true, based on the research done afterwards. But I think the obvious tell is the fact that the speaker began by explaining for 20 minutes straight about how āScientology is not evil. Itās not a cult. People are just wrong and stupid.ā Anyway if you have to preface your speech with a multitude of reasons why people shouldnāt think your belief system is god awful, then you may have a problem.
I fucking heard aĀ commericalĀ for them on a fairly popular radio stationĀ and am absolute appalledĀ
Iāve heard them, too, and theyāve set up their own TV channel as well.
Particular PSA for the Tumblr crowd as I know thereās a lot of creators on here: Theyāre also behind theĀ āWriters of the Futureā andĀ āIllustrators of the Futureā contests, which are run byĀ āAuthor Services Incā andĀ āGalaxy Pressā so beware of those if youāre looking to submit anything to contests
I knew the top few names, but the last few on the list are new. Interesting to see the way its names adapt over time.
Scientology is a dangerous cult that destroys lives and tears families apart. Stay the fuck away from Scientology. Stay as far the fuck away as you can.
Because I remember disinformation being spread around the last election and Iām sure Russia will bring it back:

YOU CANāT VOTE FROM YOUR PHONE.

DO NOT WEAR CAMPAIGN GEAR TO THE POLLS.
DO NOT TRY TO PERSUADE PEOPLE TO VOTE FOR A CANDIDATE AT THE POLLS.
DO NOT ENGAGE IN ANY KIND OF POLITICAL DISCOURSE AT THE POLLS.
NO ELECTION IS EVER A SURE THING, EVEN IF YOUāRE IN THE BLUEST OR REDDEST OF STATES.Ā IF SOMEONE TRIES TO TELL YOU THAT YOU CAN SIT THIS ONE OUT, THEY ARE EITHER IGNORANT OR MALICIOUS.
VOTE.
It's only 9 pages. You have time (and if you're American, a responsibility) to read this.

āThe reason women are critiqued for being too loud or too meek, too big or too small, too smart to be attractive or too attractive to be smart, is to belittle women out of standing up publicly. The goal is to ācritiqueā into submission. & That applies to anyone challenging power.:

My brother was diagnosed with depression years before I was, and because of that he started therapy years before I did.
I still remember when I was a young teen and he was playing a Nirvana song and he stopped it at this one line: āI miss the comfort of being sadā
He told me that when you start to get better, thereās a part of you that misses being sad and that if you start feeling that way you have to be extra extra aware and careful because if you indulge the feeling youāll go down a self-destructive spiral
And even though that was years and years ago, I think about it all the time. Especially when Iām reading discourse on the idea of getting so attached to mental illness as an identity that you donāt want to improve things because you feel safe in it and donāt know who you are without it

How To Wash Your Binder!
Hey everyone, just wanted to make this is show yāall how I wash my binder and as a reminder to wash your binder!
So first off, I like to wash my binders every third day (unless it was really hot that day or if I spilled something on it, then I wash it that day)
So first I fill the sink up with warm water and put my binders in the water. Then I like to let them just soak in the water for a few minutes!
So next I use a Landry cleaner and softener
I keep them in small tubs cause I donāt need the whole bottle.
Now I leave them to soak for a couple minutes
Now Iām using dove body wash to make it smell nice and feel a lot softer
Now I let that soak for a moment
After I scrub them I drain the warm water
And then rinse them off with cold water
If any of your water turns a weird color do not worry! Itās not because it dirty, itās just the dye!
Then I squeeze them out the best I can by hand and then I leave them to hang like this for the night!
Hope this was helpful!?
To my trans followers.
Just in case I have any followers who would be helped by this
@poisonedapples !!
First of all, I could need this lmao. Second, IF ANY OF YOU HAS A BINDER, WASH IIITTT
If you donāt wash em you can get really painful skin rashes ouo make sure you wash em!
Reblog for trans people.
Helpful! necessary info u.u
just to second that point, washing your binder is really important. i rarely wash mine and i get terrible cystic acne on my chest and back that has left permanent scarring. please please please wash your fuckin binder.
I wash my kidās binder with our lingerie. I pop it in the washer on the low- or medium-spin, cold-wash, cold-rinse cycle that we use for shirts, sweaters, pajamas, etc. and then - just like with lingerie, sweaters, and delicate shirts - I lay it out to dry on a drying rack, or hang it up.Ā The key - and this is true for all delicates - is a lingerie bag. It keeps smaller items from getting too tangled up and thrashed about in the washer. And hanging items to dry prevents heat damage to elastic, and prevents wrinkling.
This has never damaged my underwires (which I guard zealously - finding good 30E or F bras is hard enough), and it wonāt damage a binder, either. Plus, itās so much easier than handwashing - meaning youāre more likely to do it regularly. (Note: sweat rots elastic - so washing will seriously prolong the life of all intimate apparel!)
Dunno if anyone outside the UK has noticed, but Britain in the last week has decided that tipping milkshakes over fascists is what we do now.
To the point that McDonalds were asked by the police to stop selling them, and it didnāt help at all.

Yesterday I overheard someone talking about how he was taking classes at the University of Maryland because they offer free tuition if youāre over 60.Ā
My brain IMMEDIATELY began scripting a screwball comedy in which a broke millennial who desperately want to finish his long-abandoned degree but is drowning in student debt pretends to be a senior citizen in order to attend college for free.
Iām picturing someone Channing Tatumesque, applying age makeup every morning before he heads off to class. Itās sort of a cross between 21 Jump Street and Mrs. Doubtfire. He keeps forgetting which hip is supposed to be his bad one. His classmates laugh every time he uses slang. Thereās definitely a scene where he attends a college party and busts it up on the dance floor.
He catches the eye of a fellow returning student, a woman in her 50s, but she thinks heās like 70 and sheās already buried one husband, you know? Sheās not interested in doing that again. When his charade unravels (hilariously) at the end of the movie, though, she finds out heās actually like 30 and has abs you could bounce a quarter off. And heās still super into her. And really, maybe itās time she gave May-December romance a chance.
Okay so to refine this concept a little:
Our Hero is stuck in a job where he keep seeing people get promoted past him because they have a 4-year degree and he doesnāt. He canāt afford to go back to school until he finishes paying off his student loans for the degree heās one semester from completing. If he got the promotion he wants he could pay them off a lot quicker. But he canāt get the promotion without the degree.
Along comes a clerical error in his almost-alma materās records which lists his birth year as 1948 instead of 1984. He gets a call from them about their āfree tuition for seniorsā program.Ā āWow, that sounds amazing!ā he says.Ā āIāll be sure to tell my, uh, grandpa, as soon as he gets home.ā
Itās one semester. If he can keep up the charade, heāll have the degree, get the promotion, pay off the student loans. Hell, if they figure it out after the fact and come after him for the tuition, heāll be able to afford it by then. He just needs to pass as a 70-year-old until graduation. How hard could it be?
(also, someone in the notes suggestedĀ āSenior Yearā for a title, which is PERFECT.)
Holy shitballs.

good question
I had a boss who often called meĀ āCassandraā, to my face.
At least once, I pointed out to him that maybe he should believe me next time I told him something he didnāt want to hear. š
hereās a thought: the reason why adult/minor friendships are looked upon with suspicion, and the reason why adults with minor friends are accused of being predatory or having bad intentions, is because we think that minors donāt have anything of value to offer adults that isnāt sex/a relationship. itās a continuation of the way adults devalue minors and their perspectives and contributions to the world.
ā¦.No itās definitely because thereās a huge power imbalance
do you really think we solve that power imbalance with segregation?
op is absolutely right. this is coming from someone who researches and teaches on age and society professionally. modern western society is age-segregated to an unprecedented degree and there is ample evidence that it is absolutely fucking us over. itās linked to everything from economic hardship to mental health crises.
intergenerational friendships are important. adults who never interact with young people outside of a defined institutional relationship with a built-in power imbalance (like being a parent or teacher) donāt develop the capacity to treat young people as equals, which reinforces patterns of abuse, neglect, social disempowerment, and silencing. young people who lack meaningful connections with adults outside of those same institutions miss out on an incredible source of support and guidance. and everyone misses out on the basic human joy of friendships that could have been really meaningful if we didnāt have this weird, broken ideology that says young people have nothing interesting to say, and no value to adults who donāt either want to raise them or exploit them or both.
op is right and they should say it.
This lack of intergenerational friendships is also very modern, very western, and very much an oddity in history. Make sure we keep them healthy, but make sure we strive to have them.
Iām nearing 30 now but still have friends in high school, because we have similar interests (D&D, video games, other hobbies, etc), and I try to be a positive, guiding force for them. Some of them have abusive or neglectful parents (not to a point that they could probably take any legal action but that will definitely cause lingering emotional damage) and I listen to them and assure them whatever their parents did/said wasnāt their fault. I try to guide them away from bad choices that I or my friends may have made in our youth. And I try to share knowledge they may not be getting from other sources, like telling a female friend without a mother or mother figure and poor sex ed that what they experience with their body and feelings is normal and not something to be worried/ashamed of.Ā
Iām not having any kids of my own, so the least I can do is try to steer a few members of the next generation in a positive direction, and I even get a few friends out of it.
This is how knowledge is passed down. No I will NOT give up my intergenerational friendships, both older and younger.
My oldest friend who I basically consider a sister had been my friend since I was around 13 and she was in her 20s. There was NEVER anything predatory about it and she helped me out so much when my family hit hard times.
Thing is, sheās actually the same age as my biological sister. I never see my bio sister though so I was and still am closer to this friend. But my point is to me there was never anything weird about talking to a person that much older than me as a friends because I was expected to anyway.
Itās just like anything else in this world. There are bad people. There will always be bad people.
Who donāt do the right thing. And yes, young people should be careful. But age gaps in friendship are not inherently bad.
@princecharmingtobe This is the exact kind of friendship I want to foster with younger people myself. Iāve dealt with a lot of shit in my childhood and teens and I really just want to be there to support and love on people who are going through the same. I have so much respect for people younger than me and their value as human beings themselves. I hate the way adults treat kids as though they should have no agency or control over their lives, only to then expect them to be competent adults when they reach a socially acceptable age to be their own boss. If I can make even one teen or child feel like they have value and add meaning to the lives around them, and make them feel loved and appreciated, Iām going to do anything I possibly can to make that happen.
One of my dearest friends when I was 13 was this 71 year old painter who taught me about art and how to turn my pain into something productive.
Another friend, 42, started out as a tutor and turned into this gay mentor/cheerleader who has always believed and supported me.
Both men, both Hispanic, both absolutely lovely people. Both friends of my parents who were aware every time I interacted with them. Both still dear to me seven years later
When I was aroundā¦. 13 years old, I think, there was this woman I met on a forum. She was an adult, in her thirties, and she was the originalĀ āwtf is wrong with your familyā person in my life. tl;dr my family is fucked up sometimes, and the woman made it a point to check in with me, make sure I was okay, and check in with me, give me advice on how to survive that crap, etc. And this was all before I even started coping with how messed up my life was. I lost touch with her a few years later when I left the forum, and Iāve always wished I could find her again and tell her Iām okay. I doubt she even remembers me, honestly, but she was the first person in my life to confirm what I think I always knew, but didnāt want to admit - that there was something seriously wrong with my life, and my parents, that I wasnāt delusional, etc. She was also a major geek who loved ATLA, and helped me get into making music videos. She was a good influence in my life in so many ways, and the saddest part is I donāt think she ever knew how much she helped me.
After that, I joined another forum, again, made a couple of adult friends, and again, they helped me deal with my crappy life. I left the forum when I was seventeen, but I still remember them, and how much they helped.
When I was 20 ā not a teenager anymore, but not quite mentally an adult yet ā I joined a roleplaying game where most of the players were 5-20 years older than me, and these days theyāre some of my closest friends ā hell, I liked one of them so much I married her. Two of them stood with me at my wedding, and several of them came from other states and countriesĀ to go to the wedding.Ā
My best friendships have been largely with people who are older than me. Donāt get me wrong, I met plenty of great people online who were my age (Iām going to her bridesmaid at her wedding this year, and she was the bridesmaid at mine last year), but adult friendships are what kept me sane until I could get tf out away from my parents. Iāve never forgotten, and I try to pay it forward with anyone whoās younger than me and happens to come across my path.
Good adult friendships are so healthy and affirming, especially when youāre a kid in a toxic household. Normalize the fuck out of them.Ā
One of my best friends is ten years younger than me. When she was freaking out and almost considering self harm over her gpa scores, I was the one to tell her that from where she was standing, things would look bleak and āyou only have one shot then youāre doneā because it was how they looked to me back then, and I told her that if she failed, she could try again, that she was so young, that things would be fine and life is not a race.
None of her same-age classmates and friends would be able to give her this clarity because none of them had this time distance of the situation. They were all freaking out over their own gpa scores too. An older personās perspective can be really valuable to a younger person facing some challenges for the first time.
Be wary, but donāt automatically turn your back on an older friend if theyāre respectful, polite and only wants your best; as long as they respect your boundaries, they can provide you with lessons you havenāt learned yet.
This also has roots in Americaās whole bag of physical contact = sexual interest issues, I think.

notice how āgirls mature fasterā is never stated as a reason why girls should be given more positions of power and authority? It only works to hold girls to greater accountability than boys and to justify menās attraction to them.
The only time I saw this taken into consideration in what felt like a positive way was when I went to secondary school in Ireland in the late 1970s. Back then, they thought that girls were ready to take their intermediate and senior exams when they were (on average) a year younger than their male counterparts. So the academic track schools made the boy take an extra year at age 12, just to get ready for serious academic work, before starting on the same curriculum that the girls dove right into. So, the girls schools ran for 5 years, while the boys had to do 6. For me, the positive was getting to finish up secondary school and go to University at 17. And I was more than academically ready - 5 years of French, Latin, European History and English Literature, with 3 years of Music, General Science and Geography at the junior level, as then 2 years of Calculus, Chemistry and Biology at the senior level by that point. I found American college courses stupidly easy. I guess theyāve changed back to 6-year secondary school for both genders now, but that seems like theyāre maybe just wasting a year of a lot of girlsā time - the grades used to come out even under the old 5-year vs. 6-year system. The fairest solution might be allowing parents to opt kids into an extra orientation year if they donāt seem ready, but let the kids who do have their shit together plow on ahead?
