Talking about studying maths at uni (Part 4/?)
"The semester barely started and I'm already starting to feel burned out. I don't have the energy for this. And it's not even November."
Talking about studying maths at uni (Part 3/?)
"I think that studying maths at uni is just a way to find out how much frustration you can take. We're all still here after a year, so I guess we can take a lot."
Use a numerical method to approximate an integral you already knew the answer to.
Yeah, guess what I did this weekend.
Implemented Gauss-Legendre quadrature for a simple integral into Python.
That's what we do.
Talking about studying maths at uni (Part 2/?)
"Most of the time I think, why am I here?"

Talking about studying maths at uni. (Part 1/?)
My friends and I talk about this quite often, and I like their different responses.
"I think about quitting multiple times a day."
One of the many perks of doing a maths degree at a small university is that it's not weird that your algebra professor sits down next to you and your colleagues, drinks a beer, eats a burger, and talks with you about uni and stuff.
"The mathematicians delved too greedily and too deep. You know what they awoke in the darkness."
our linear algebra prof saying we shouldn't get too deep into category theory (and logic) because they're basically dead ends and make you crazy (he mentioned gödel and some other logicians)
and one of my colleagues continuing to ask questions and him answering "i see you're already too interested"
"The mathematicians delved too greedily and too deep. You know what they awoke in the darkness."
as a maths students who did a module on phonetics, this is my thing.

proofing is mostly just clever renaming of objects.
Name your cats after mathematicians.
Oh my, I did that. He was called Kurt, like Gödel, and he was a bit paranoid like him too.
we throw the term 'gay icon' around a lot but where's the respect for maurice hall having gay sex one (1) time and immediately becoming a class traitor
i have to reread this book
My Stochastics professor warning us about using Wikipedia: "There are many mistakes in the articles because most of them are written by theoretical physicists who have, let's say, a very great self-confidence, in contrast to us mathematicians."
Linear Algebra prof wants to give a little digression into quantum physics after we talked about a relevant topic in the regular lecture. After 5 minutes, he says: I don't really know the physical side of it very well. Ten minutes later: Now I really don't know what I'm talking about. Proceeds to talk about quantum physics for almost two hours. [or well, positive (semi-)definite matrices and the Bloch sphere]

Watching Numb3rs as a maths student hits different.
During my linear algebra lecture today, my professor (who also makes good-natured fun of analyists with their infinite sums) said, "Should we say -ε? Or rather ε < 0?", while grinning. What a daredevil!
