Per Aspera…
disclaimer within esquire magazine’s summer of tennis edition that proves they deliberately excluded alexander zverev from the publication
Editor's note: Finishing the year as world No.2, Alexander Zverev is arguably better placed than anyone to claim tennis' top spot. However, due to the well-documented allegations of domestic violence against him, we decided not to include Zverev in this editorial. If you or someone you know has experienced domestic, family or sexual violence, call 1800RESPECT on 1800 737 732, text 0458 737 732 or visit 1800RESPECT.org.au for online chat and video-call services.

was thinking about how tennis offers a very unique, intimate experience for the spectator (with @/channelslam)...
the Player's Box, in a tennis match, offers space for a story within a story—a dialogue that is happening beyond the two opponents and their back-and-forth—a soap opera, a family drama, a recurring divorce. the court is so well-named because it hosts these various discourses and arguments that influence the direction and action taking place between the two main protagonists...
it offers a special kind of voyeuristic opportunity to experience different levels of intimacy... i keep thinking about how the comms of the potapova-kalinskaya r4 match kept emphasising that we were witnessing three matches—one, betwen the two players, a second, with each player and their mental and emotional state, and a third, between the players and their teams. all three of these are equally unpredictable and interdependent and raise the stakes of the match. we don't really know the way the tides will change because how the players play affects their mental state and their discussion with the team and vice versa. these three elements are almost inseparable and fairly volatile, especially in more dramatic, unstable matches which have strange weather conditions, or weird umpire calls, or just uncontrollable external stimuli... kind of an incredible setup for tv, if you ask me 😁 it's an improv performance that encourages the audience to buy into these complicated layers of narratives. and maybe even throw some tomatoes... symbolically of course 🤓
Not going to help today's lunch, but have you considered moving to Australia where you can get excellent quality sushi in food courts and a whole lunch will cost you well under €10
I actually had a conversation last month with a childhood friend who moved to Sydney a couple years ago (he was back for a month for visa reasons). We talked about cultural differences and how close-knit all italians working in food service in Sydney. Also he told me he makes 80k/year as a cook. That's EIGHT THOUSAND sushi lunches a year....
Please plug the tiramisu shop!
thank u for asking omg. I had his tiramisù a few times and it's delicious
i get the feeling people want to hate on abusers more than they want to support and help survivors
i don't know if i can explain this well but as a survivor seeing people say they wish zverev won't win a slam 20 times per day quite honestly means nothing, i understand why people don't want that to happen, i don't either of course, but it doesn't really change much. the problem is he's playing at all, the problem is he's hurt women and never faced consequences and him winning a slam wouldn't make that any more or less true. what i would like people to do in the face of all this is denounce the complicity of the atp and also try and turn the anger you have towards zverev into a drive to help survivors around you and to make every space you're in a safer one for survivors. that makes a tangible difference.
flavio whos going to be ok
sabalenka's comments in the press conference, in light of the men's match just had their match closed now, once again
