as soon as you're asked to consider a man's sexuality, that man transitions from subject to object and is consequently feminized. masculinity is supposed to be related to, not observed.
Too many people will pass around "always trust your gut!" and "your intuition never lies" content when actually your "intuition" isn't immune to either propaganda, bigotry or trauma reactions. Which is important to be aware of actually
your gut intuition is a muscle that needs exercising and training like any other and while biases and trauma make this task much harder, that just makes it all the more important to practice
happy tdov or whatever its spring and im cute thanks for noticing

Your ears don't "ring" after u go to a loud concert btw. The heavenly transceivers in yr brain have simply been given an extra charge, bc of all the guitar feedback, so u can temporarily hear angel voices more clearly than u normally can. By wearing earplugs u are depriving yrself of their vital advice.

This was a whole thread, here are some of my favourites:
I think I speak for all women when I say: I'm sleepy
Apparently, about half of an average personās thoughts are daydreams. Daydreams are also, apparently, a kind of dissociation. I donāt think we adequately account for daydreams when we talk about the world. If we want to be true to our experience, we should be talking about them at least half the time!
This makes me think of Dr Oliver Sacksā discussion on the surprisingly commonplace occurence of visual and auditory hallucinations. If half of our thoughts are daydreams, how much if that might be outright hallucinatory? And what does this say about the subjective nature of reality when what we inwardly deem to ourselves to be our reality canāt be trusted either?
I think of the paradoxical proposition that weāre living in a simulated reality and wonder, too, if that were so, to what extent are we participating in our own illusion, like Platoās Cave, kinda.
Levi-Strauss talks about the testimony of a boy from Egypt who when he was four believed that he lived in two worlds: one that his mother would take him to, where the waters were calm and he could swim, and one his father would take him to, where the waters were choppy and he couldnāt swim. When he grew up he expressed an embarassment about the idea which now seemed silly, but Levi-Strauss said that if he grew up in an aboriginal Australian culture he might have had the same idea but not feel embarassed about it, because their culture does have a kind of social dualism that plays in the way they talk about the world (at least according to him, idk, old anthropology [there was an interesting book published recently by a group of YolÅu women about Songspirals, songs which are functionally used to help navigate long distance travel but are also a kind of, idk, something like ideology! which in their words āmake and remake the life-giving connections between people and placeā - anyway, I believe in this book they expressed some skepticism to the way anthropology professors talk about aboriginal culture, which makes sense to me])
We tend to talk as though we we only believe in one world but I feel like you could make an argument that we do have, and that our discourse reflects, a belief in a few different ones. Most obviously, the world is divided between public and private life. When I leave my home I really do, in some material sese, enter a different world. These worlds have different laws which govern them and we have different mores associted with each. I have different clothes that I wear in each one (at home my ācomfiesā, etc.), and some activities are only carried out in one or the other (sex is only proper to the private world, etc.) These worlds are localized to physical spaces (my home, the city square) but not exclusively. I can āfindā the private world in many places in otherwise public territory, eg. when me and my sweetheart duck behind a bush in the park to make out⦠Transgressing these world-boundaries is something that has a profound fascination, so that something like witnessing public sex feels like witnessing an alien invasion.
But theres surely also the inner and outer world. Daydreaming, dreams and hallucinations are each their own territories, in which I find myself with varying degrees of agency. And I regard events in this inner world very differently than I do in the outer world. If something terrible happens in a daydream I might not intervene, as in real life, or run away, but simply change what I imagine. In the dream I might wake up, and for a hallucination I might have some compulsion that relieves it⦠While I tend to regard my experiences in the daydream-world as suboridnate to the real one, and basically never talk about it (have you ever had anyone tell you their daydream? if someone does its in the context of āI had an idea for a storyā¦ā), but it doesnāt seem to me that theres any reason to treat it this way. You could imagine a person or a society which regards outer life as drag on the free, creative world of daydreams.
So many dope words have been sacrificed to become synonyms for "really good." Awesome. Phenomenal. Stellar. Theyre so much more poetic than they get used for. Like Im sure that new mcdonalds sandwich was good but did it actually remind you of the stars?
Flipping the narrative here i love small talk and iām very good at it. I love saying āthank god we had that rain!ā And āthe construction downtown is CRAZYā it gives me a rush

I feel very strongly about the abolition of the carceral state and also about the transformative power of horizontal, retributive or defensive physical violence by victims towards their victimizers and I don't actually think this is a contradictory position at all
genuinely I think the main point of abolishing power structures and inequalities is to make a level playing field for "talk shit get hit" to do its thing. the problem with the state monopoly on violence is the "monopoly" part, not the "violence" part.
I forget why, but I was on the Wikipedia page for polycystic ovarian syndrome, and I started researching hirsutism in women, and I learned the following things in this order:
there's a diagnostic criteria used to evaluate how hairy a woman is
This is important because being too hairy is a diagnostic criteria of most disorders that cause hyperandrogenism
Disorders that cause hyperandrogenism can be diagnosed by...measuring how hairy you are (this is the main and most important diagnostic criterion for PCOS)
Disorders that cause hyperandrogenism are important because they are correlated with obesity, infertility, and...being too hairy?
I think to myself, wait, what is a normal range for testosterone in women? I find this article...which set reference ranges for "normal" testosterone levels in women...EXCLUDING WOMEN WITH PCOS?
Quote: "Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is another notable condition in genetic (XX) females, which is characterized by excessive ovarian production of androgens. This condition is included for comparison with DSD, as the affected females with PCOS are genetic and phenotypic females. The elevated levels of testosterone in these females can lead to hyperandrogenism, a clinical disorder characterized variably by hirsutism, acne, male-pattern balding, metabolic disturbances, impaired ovulation and infertility. PCOS is a common condition, affecting 7%-10% of premenopausal women."
So: the study claims to demonstrate a clear distinction between the normal range of hormone levels in "Healthy" men and "healthy" women...with "healthy" being defined in the study as...having hormones within the "normal" range.......................
So I researched what the clinically established "normal" range for testosterone in women is
THERE ISN'T ONE????
Quote from the above article: "Several different approaches have been used to define endocrine disorders. The statistical approach establishes the lower and the upper limits of hormone concentrations solely on the basis of the statistical distribution of hormone levels in a healthy reference population. As an illustration, hypo- and hypercalcemia have been defined on the basis of the statistical distribution of serum calcium concentrations. Using this approach, androgen deficiency could be defined as the occurrence of serum testosterone levels that are below the 97.5th percentile of testosterone levels in healthy population of young men. A second approach is to use a threshold hormone concentration below or above which there is high risk of developing adverse health outcomes. This approach has been used to define osteoporosis and hypercholesterolemia. However, we do not know with certainty the thresholds of testosterone levels which are associated with adverse health outcomes."
What the fuck?
What the fuck?
It's batshit crazy to make a diagnostic criteria for medical disorders by placing arbitrary cutoffs within 2-5% of either end of a statistical distribution. What the actual fuck?
"The results came back, you have Statistical Outlier Disease." "What treatments are available?" "Well, first, we recommend dietary change. You should probably stop eating so many spiders."
Another article which attempted to do this
Quote: "Subjects with signs of hirsutism or with a personal history of diabetes or hypertension, or a family history of polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) were excluded."
"We're going to figure out the typical range of testosterone levels that occur in women! First, we're going to exclude all the women that are too hairy from the study. I am very good at science."
Anyway I got off topic but there are apparently race-specific diagnostic tools for "hirsutism." That's kinda weird on its own but when I looked more into this in relation to race I found this article that straight-up uses the term "mongoloid"
(The last article linked also mentions that measurement systems for 'hirsutism' were originally developed for the purpose of defining race)
