I like that Ali was only able to defeat Alamo AFTER he abandoned religion. and I like that even though he is usually seen as the stable moral guide in the show, his religious truisms were very unhelpful this season. when Rue asked him about why Christian homophobia exists, he zeroed in on the persecution of gay men and explained it as a Roman war strategy, which doesn't help Rue, a lesbian, in the present day. In the finale when Rue asked him how people "get to be so evil" he answered with "because it's easier"..... this statement affirms his discipline in his faith and shows off his superiority to evil, but is totally unhelpful to Rue, who is suicidal and not looking forward to spending the rest of her life continually dealing with people who become evil "because it's easier". right after he answers her question, Rue takes the Percocet and dies
Hamish Linklater as Father Paul / John Pruitt in MIDNIGHT MASS (2021) Episode 5: Gospel
In that final AA scene — "the meeting," as Father Paul calls it — when everything that has been brewing all season long is now out in the open, the conversation erupts. Father Paul tries to get Riley to admit his jealousy over the fact that he can take a life, drink their blood, and not feel remorse, while Riley is plagued with guilt for killing the girl in the car crash. Linklater accelerates the rhythm of this situation and shouts at his costar, a moment that made it into the final cut of the show. Flanagan remembers it more as an explosion. "That only ever happened once that way," he says. "It knocked Zach back so much. To be sitting there with the same two actors in the same location and what is relatively the same lighting for a week, going through these long scenes, and to be able to surprise each other like that, that's really awesome to see."
as a pattern seeking species i think we tend to get attached to things we recognise or encounter frequently. any sort of recognition can work to get people emotionally invested in things. like other people online who we never have met or talked to, fictional characters, even toys or objects.
but while we recognise the parasocial nature of getting overly attached to strangers online , i'm not sure people realise this is what happens on a regular basis towards visibly disabled people in their real lives. being easier to spot in a crowd makes people notice you more often and remember you more strongly. people also mistake the information of "this person has a disability" as intimate shared information. perhaps they recognise it as the vulnerable information that it is. and so visibly disabled people are often treated by neighbours or distant acquaintances or strangers as someone they know. maybe even someone they're entitled to talk to familiarly or ask about.
in actuality they don't know anything private about this random disabled person. i bet most people, abled or disabled would be unable to tell the disabilities someone has just by looking at their visual symptoms. neither did they really notice the disabled person or learn anything about them that they would usually strive to learn about someone they're getting to know. you don't know what that visibly disabled person likes or dislikes, believes in, advocates for, spends their time doing.
visibly disabled people know it wasn't any aspect of their personhood that stuck in the mind of some stranger, but rather understand that they are being seen as a human shaped disability. and visibly disabled people haven't made any decision to confide in strangers, just like you don't "share" the information that you can walk on two legs, or have four limbs, or no scars, or the ability to speak and hear by existing in public, disabled people aren't "sharing" their scars or limb difference or anything else by existing in public.
and when people can't recognise their own assumptions about random visibly disabled strangers and then feel entitled to their time, energy, emotions, personal information, and such they get angry at the disabled person for having regular boundaries that most ableds take for granted. and considering that disability makes one vulnerable to assault or abuse, and that's the only information these self-entitled ableds actually have on hand, it easily becomes a dangerous situation for the disabled person in question
wheres that long post someone wrote about how when you are visibly disabled you get stalked more frequently / encounter boundary issues with people because people think they know you closely just because you have a visible disability + they see the disability as vulnerability or a secret piece of info

The reason that I don’t see Rue’s death as Euphoria deciding to not be hopeful or it being cruel is because that happens in real life and addicts and others die from fentanyl overdoses and those people’s lives still mattered.
“Thank you Rue, let her memory be a blessing,” hits me hard because I hope that there’s people out there who realize how precious life can be and how easy and random it is for it to end. I operate from a know it all perspective so I always think people know everything just like me like (fentanyl bad, duh) but I’m thinking of all the young people who see themselves as invincible and will watch the show and realize a random pill can kill you.
And I think that this season was crafted the way it was because of Angus Cloud’s death. Sam himself has said that if he had been using the way he did in the past that he would be dead. This shit is meaningful and I don’t think he did it out of spite or malice towards anyone.
are they just gonna keep pretending ariana is like healthy until she ends up in a hospital…those tour videos r terrifying she literally has extreme ana theres clips of her shaking and struggling to keep up bc her boots r too heavy for her body shits scary and like i hope she gets help but also i despise what this does to the minds of young girls who look up to her like….. hollywood is getting scary

I get that Ali going up against Alamo in the final episode is like supposed to set an example for young male viewers “Ali is a good man and Alamo is a bad man. A good man protects women.” it’s also supposed to reflect what happened between Kendrick Lamar and Drake two summers ago… Ali is Mr. Lamar and Drake is Alamo…. I get that it’s good to have positive male role models on TV, and it was a good scene that gave Colman Domingo a chance to flaunt his awesome skill…. but it would have been much more motivating and enjoyable to see Rue take action like that, instead of be avenged. At least she got to bust that nazi’s knee.

They didn't have caste...no one mentioned this. They didn't have a caste system that restrict and punish large population of people from working in any field they desire like other normal countries.

im actually so grateful and thankful that Minnesota has no official religion and that 30% of the population is non religious and that the native population is growing and is very present… not having a state religion honors the “separation of church and state” + makes the people more open and kind and (slightly) less judgy and reduces ingroup tribalism to unify the state + having racial/religious diversity in your schools makes you smarter and more worldly + adapting to modern laws and science helps with the economy, instead of stagnating and upholding old traditions in beliefs and farming like the south
Another win 4 Wikipedia cuz this is all so true.. idk I just like how they got all the specifics right . I like to appreciate good things when they are in front of me, like Minnesota and Wikipedia and Native Americans
I really like that video about how the evangelical /southern Baptist style of Christianity is tied to corporations and the CIA… like I do think that Republicans since the 80s have been trying to consolidate all Christians into one homogenous “Charlie Kirk-Donald Trump-church-with-carpet-and-fluorescent-lights-and-a-preacher-who-plays-guitar McDonalds Happy Meal and cartoon angels Mormon-adjacent Christian Summer Camp Twitter-Bible-Quotes PRAISE JESUS flashy Prosperity Gospel Megachurch” Church… I guess that’s what “Christian Nationalism” is …. i’ve been feeling the push for the past 20 years for this creation of a Ronald Reagan Proselytize-To-Everyone Christianity and it sooooo repulses me
Like I just hate seeing Minnesotans (historically Catholic, now in present day Agnostic/atheist, Catholic, and then a large vague Lutheran/Protestant hybrid, followed by smaller percent of Judaism and Muslims and Hindus)
get seduced by a flashy very blonde government corporate backed Southern-flavored Christianity…. the “Ronald Reagan Blonde American Bible Study Christianity” infiltrates the most through the Lutherans and the Evangelical Protestants
I notice that ever since I shared this video on my YouTube community tab, YouTube only recommends me cute animal videos now and nothing else ?
