Ashes to Ashes
The accidental fire caused by the young fire mage spread across a section of Leuda before it was contained. There was no rain to aid the quenching of the blaze, so it was manmade devices that finally ended the desolation. It had ravaged a few homes and businesses, laying waste to part of the community that would hardly be the same again.
Claire had been far away from the scene of the crime when they had started the rescue mission, but it had already caused severe damages to a few homes and businesses. She was bound and determined to keep quiet if anyone came asking in regards to the fire, and would only tell a select few... but the guilt would undoubtedly gnaw at her.
(Businesses affected: Leuda Police Station Happy Hearts Home (minimal damage)
Homes affected: Rosalia Drive, House 5670 Emery Street, House 9827)

•。 ✧ A gentleman - regardless of how refined and dignified he may be - was, at the center of his being, still a man; silver eyes trailing down her figure like a waterfall - basking in the spectacle of her bizarre yet attractive uniform - admiring the sight beholden until she performed a curtsy that was, to say the least, on the verge of being cute. Nevertheless, Charles understood well that he could appreciate a piece of art when he was bearing witness to one - acknowledging it at best - but he could not touch despite the possibilities his insatiably curious imagination conjured up inside of his head; to believe that his mind ran rampant on the occasion of her indelible appearance from his beach, this certainly was the strawberry that adorned the top of the tiered cake embodying the inner mechanisms of his mind - like a robot on the path toward going potentially haywire, he rerouted his sensibilities and focused on his original intention for visiting the café in the first place; although, the sensation of her eyes exploring him as well required a moment for him to reboot.
“Have you forgotten what I have said about underestimating me?” His foxlike gaze cast a shimmer in his eyes whilst a devious smirk crept upon his face. “Adaptation is an essential component to any successful invention. Otherwise, the limits that restrict your creation hinder its potential and fullest functionality,” he precariously raised an eyebrow, “but by now, you should know that I am a man of many wares - a jack of trades, if you will. You, on the other hand,” the mechanist ran his fingers through his hair, “are a woman of many hats. Who should I be expecting here? Or is that, yet again, another surprise up your sleeve… C?”
The grin she wore tugged at her lips, begging them to elongate as she caught Charles openly trailing his eyes over her person. It was flattering, to say the least -- but she couldn’t say it didn’t happen on a regular basis in this line of work, especially when considering her uniform. She challenged that look of his, her own bright eyes burning with a daring aura. It was like every other man to look away when she refused to avert her gaze while the other viewed her openly, but he was unlike that. It was something that piqued her interest immediately; someone who doesn’t back down when given the chance.
His smirk called shivers to follow her spine, and once again she felt an innate sense of unknown when viewing that expression. Dangerous, or perhaps just risky. The blonde allowed a sharp flux of laughter to escape when he spoke. “Could I forget? You made such a strong case before...” She trailed off as she rounded the counter, standing what may have been a bit too close for an average customer. His height was just as intimidating as it was at their previous meeting. Only looking to him, she grabbed a menu off from the side, her smile unfaltering and deadly. “And here you are, doing so again. It’s all very convincing.” She leaned forward, winking playfully before righting herself once more.
A sigh caught her throat as if he hadn’t need to mention the hat she was currently wearing. She wasn’t so embarrassed toward the job, especially considering it was to assist her sister. The costumes and most of the customers were... a different story. “Luckily for you, I don’t have to change one thing about myself for this cafe -- except, well..” She gestured to the outfit once again, a slight flush casting her cheeks once more. Her brows set high above her cerulean eyes in a question, and she held the menu up for him to see. The question pulled from her lips was another trial to see where the mysterious man before her stood.
“I can get you seated and get your waitress, unless... you have a preferred server?”Â

•。 ✧ Everything that burns is not always meant to end as ash; his memory of a a maiden with blonde hair and blue eyes remained alit in his mind since that day on the beach - but eventually, a fire dies down, and one must return to reality. Here he was about a week or so later - booked back to back with meetings on Leuda about the mining company and, later in the day, the Funland Foundation on Arcadia; nevertheless, working was his drive - his motivation - and what fanned the flame inside of Charles to move closer toward achieving his goals and exceeding his own expectations - but the thought of the striking young woman he encountered lingered in the back of his mind despite his efforts to rule it off as an isolated event. At the end of the day, he understood that relationships of any kind were merely obstacles in his path toward vengeance and power - he refused to let anyone get in his way or hurt him again; once bitten, twice shy.
With some availability for lunchtime, he elected to visit a café that he rarely - if ever - frequented; he attempted to reserve his business on Arcadia unless deemed necessary on this wretched island, but considering the circumstances of his day - as well as his hunger that revealed itself through a grumbling in his stomach - he swallowed his pride. Charles had heard through the grapevine about this café - dishes and drinks were quality and recommended by the local townsfolk and tourists - but there was also an unconventionality about it that made its presence distinct on the island. He figured that time was of the essence - it could not possibly be as bizarre as he imagined it.
Alas, upon entering the establishment, the sight of maid dresses scattering the café captivated his attention - and in an attempt to stifle his laughter, he also wished to stifle a familiar flame from reigniting as his eyes befell upon seas of blue; however, her pink uniform that resembled cotton candy was comical enough to conjure up some ideas to make this meal a little more enjoyable.
“Good afternoon, fair maiden.” Charles spoke up from behind her - standing tall with pride, adjusting his tie. “May I say that you are… quite the sight for sore eyes, C.”
The days had dragged on in a fog since the beginning of summer, and especially so after the event at Leuda’s beach. Claire had been going about her days as usual; tending to her farm, which was already blooming into a bountiful array of summer crops, and occasionally working at her sister’s cafe. During such dull afternoons, she would find herself thinking back on the striking man she’d met that day, who’s hair was aflame akin to her spirit. Though they talked much during the festivities, there was none other than a name that hung on Claire’s thoughts.
Despite multiple embarrassing occurrences that were all to do with her new uniform, she was no quitter. She had also made a bit of a name for herself with the customers, as certain people even liked when she chastised them or made a scene of crashing their plates down on the tables. It was a bit concerning, but at least Claire could act like herself, unlike the other maids who flit around the tables and were sweet enough to give her cavities.
It was such a listless day at the cafe. The blonde found herself staring at the delicately painted pink clock on the wall above her head, wiping the same glass over and over again as she counted the seconds. Tick, tock. Her mind wandered to that day; that man. The bell on the door did nothing to sway her attention, as her greeting was displaced among the other maids. Her thoughts were blinding, and she was sure her sister would find her daydreaming at any moment when -- a voice.
Claire whipped around, her long locks twirling with her and the glass nearly dropping from her hand at the sudden action. Her blue eyes locked on him, and she thought it may be someone else for a moment -- but his steel stare gave her certainty. She placed the glass on the counter in front of her, a surprising blush painting her cheeks with the use of the new nickname.Â
She had barely caught the humor he’d spoken, and a sweet smirk tugged at her lips. “You... Very funny.” She adjusted the maid headpiece she wore -- an accessory that came with more problems than not -- and leaned down into a partial curtsy. When she rose, Claire let her eyes linger on his suit and well-kept hair. A much different look than beach attire, but it fit his air well, and he was dashing as usual. “And may I say, I didn’t think this was your scene either -- I guess it’s true you adapt well.”

Summer Sun || Open
Ugh. It just had to be a tiny, angry, cute girl.Â
Kasey sighed and rested one of his hands on his hip as he looked her over, eyes on the new stain that decorated her attire. It seemed that they both lost their beverages in the collision, and as much as Kasey wanted to point out that the girl was to blame for the whole ordeal, he also didn’t want to keep dealing with her temper tantrum.Â
“Well, I’m sorry that your shirt got ruined.” It was no real admission of guilt, but more so an offer of sympathies. “How about I buy you another drink to make up for it, hm? There should be a drink stand nearby, right?” As for the bathing suit and shirt being ruined… Well, Kasey wasn’t about to offer to buy her a new one or put up the money for a new one.Â
Claire crossed her arms over the stain and tried her best to cover the pout that was forming. It wasn’t that big of a deal, of course -- even if it had been her sister who had bought her the swimsuit. And it was her favorite beach tee. Things could always be replaced; what couldn’t be replaced was a sincere apology. Or, the apologee had to at least work for it.
She stared up at him from hooded eyes, fiery anger flickering behind the blue hues. “That doesn’t sound very sincere.” She flipped her blonde hair up and it cascaded down her back as she tapped her foot. If the very least he could do was offer to buy her another refreshment, she would have to take what she could get.
With a sigh, Claire pulled her white, damp tee shirt over her head. Her bikini top had unfortunately been caught in the drink’s path, and had a dark stain across the top. The blonde folded her tee shirt and threw it toward her bag on the sand, before placing two confident hands on her hips. A slim eyebrow cocked at the man as she spoke. “Let’s get a move on, then -- I’m parched.”

Accidents Happen || Gray & Claire
“Um, right…”
Gray had nearly forgotten that he was in a cafe on his lunch break. All he was supposed to do was sit down, place an order, eat his food, and leave. He wasn’t supposed to be grabbing falling girls or anything of the sort. With a soft sigh, Gray made to sit down in his seat again, but he noticed in the corner of his eye the girl struggling with the box once again. Not wanting to risk the girl injuring herself and the box of napkins tumbling to the ground again, Gray stood up again and grabbed the box from her.
“W-Where am I taking these…” he mumbled, eyes cast to the side out of embarrassment. Hopefully, she wouldn’t protest and he’d be able to help her out. Just this once. He just didn’t want her getting injured over something so menial, that was all.
The weight of the box was steadily growing, and she felt her arms getting weaker. She wondered if she could just throw the box of napkins behind the server’s station, but before she could put a final burst of energy into that action, the weight lifted from her shoulders. Claire blinked, feeling the air above her for a moment before dropping her arms and turning toward the man who -- once again -- felt the need to help her.
The blonde was embarrassed, that was of no doubt. The crimson scrawled across her face again but instead of casting her eyes downward, she stared straight at the man’s face as if she were about to explode. She shouldn’t be angry; she knew that. But often times her pride left her frustrated and bitter when others reached out to help. It was to be done by her, no one else. Spinning on her heel, Claire pointed to the server’s station not far from their table that was stacked with plates and tableware. “Behind that.” She could barely force the words out without spitting them.
Fuming, Claire followed behind the man as he took the box to its location. Luckily, a glass case full of cakes and delectable treats blocked the view of Claire -- in all her short, heated glory -- from the cafe customers. She took this time to strike, but found herself once again hesitating as she looked at his face. It was chiseled and hard, but there was a softness she found behind his eyes. If there was one thing that continuously won out over Claire’s pride and anger, it was her curiosity.
The blonde stood wide, crossing her arms over her chest and blocking his exit, attempting to look as intimidating as she could in a maid outfit. Yet, her cheeks were still painted with rose as she spoke. “Why did you want to help me? I didn’t see any other customer’s coming to my rescue.”

Accidents Happen || Gray & Claire
Of all reactions, Gray had not been expected a tender touch to his cheek. The absolutely mystified expression that painted the girl’s face as she reached up to touch his cheek had his gaze locked onto her. However, he hardly had any time to react (aside from his entire face burning up bright red) before the waitress was standing upright and apologizing.Â
Embarrassed, Gray coughed into his closed fist, averting his gaze to the side, but when she began to put the napkins back into the box, Gray knelt down onto the ground to assist. If he didn’t feel awkward before just from being in the cafe, he sure as hell felt awkward now, trying to converse with the girl he had just been holding.Â
“Don’t worry about it,” he muttered as he placed the last of the napkins into the box they had been in. Gray stood back up and shifted on his feet awkwardly. “Um, you sure you’re okay? Do you… need help carrying the boxes?”
Claire’s pout slid into a tepid smile when she noticed the man’s own blushed cheeks. She couldn’t blame him -- who would be expecting a stranger to touch their face while held in their arms? She had done it merely out of concern for her surroundings; just in case she was actually in Heaven.Â
Still, she didn’t expect him to assist her with putting the napkins back in the box. Claire grit her teeth in chagrin, only growing more embarrassed as he placed the last of the napkins in the box. She stood with him, but looked toward the ground -- what was wrong with her? This wasn’t her normal reaction at all, but she couldn’t help the fluster that built in her veins.
The blonde sheepishly rubbed her arm before looking up toward the man, eyes veiled behind her bangs. “Yes, I said I’m fine.” Her voice was more acidic than she meant it to be, and she breathed sharp air in to quench the fire of her tongue. “... I can’t trouble a customer with that -- you’re supposed to be enjoying your time here!” As Rachel had taught her, Claire folded her hands in front of her and bowed toward the man in apology before crouching down to pick up the box.Â
This time, she attempted to lift the box over her head to clear her plane of view, but... Her biceps began to quiver and her smile became wobbly as she attempted to walk away. Are these napkins made out of metal or something?!

Accidents Happen || Gray & Claire
Gray did not go to the cafe for the reasons most would assume. Sure, the uniform was cute, or whatever, but that was by no means the true reason he went to the cafe during his lunch break. If anything, it just served to make Gray embarrassed as hell every time he set foot in the building. Regardless, he needed a good meal before he went back to work in the mines, so this was the place to go.Â
Gray simply nodded at the greeting, not saying anything in return. Another host guided him to a seat, thankfully towards the back of the restaurant. If one of his coworkers or–dare he call them friends–saw him at such an establishment, he’d be more than embarrassed, for sure. When the door that lead to the back of the building swung open and an employee carrying more boxes than she ought to emerged, Gray’s first thought was, “They’re going to drop those, for sure…”
Unfortunately, it ended up being worse.Â
“Woah–!” He reacted before he could think about it, arms reaching out to catch the falling employee. He even shut his eyes as he waited for disaster, but when everything stopped moving, he opened his eyes to find the girl safely secured, albeit in an embarrassing manner. “Um–” Gray stared down at her, unsure of how to proceed. “A-Are you okay…?”
Claire’s eyes were squeezed shut so tightly she thought she may never be able to open them again. She was sure that her stumble landed he straight on the tile floor below, but she felt something different around her waist. Slowly, she opened one of her bright blue eyes as if she were terrified to see her surroundings, and instead of the ceiling before her, an attractive face was looking down from above.
The blonde blinked at him, unsure if it was reality or if she had injured her head badly and was making up some sort of scenario. The only way to know for sure was to give it a test. Slowly, she reached slim fingers up to touch his face, and was instantly shocked to feel true warmth from his skin. Claire recoiled her hand immediately, her cheeks flushing with crimson.Â
Claire realized he had asked her a question. Normally, it didn’t take her very long to come back with a cutting answer or biting quip, but this man took her by surprise. She swallowed a lump in her throat before squeaking out a reply. “I-- I’m okay, of course!” She righted herself and averted her flustered gaze before crouching down to start cleaning the mess she’d left. She grumbled a sigh at the thought of a whole box of napkins going to waste after falling to the floor.
After placing a few back into the box, Claire looked up to the man with knitted brows, an unsure scowl across her lips. “Sorry about that... And thanks for catching me -- it was probly more trouble than it’s worth!”
Claire grit her teeth at the thought of prancing around on stage in her skimpy swimsuit. She should’ve known, really, that Rachel would get back at her for signing her up for the contest by doing the exact same thing. She should’ve been prepared, but perhaps she thought her twin would’ve been thankful -- she did love the attention, after all.
The blonde sighed as she glared down at her swimsuit, also purchased by her twin to really stick it in the heart. Still, there is the slight possibility it may be fun, and she was always inclined to make boys blush when she could.
Accidents Happen || Gray & Claire
@geode-x-dude
“Welcome in!”
Claire’s greeting was absent-minded as she threw it back toward the cafe. She was busying herself in the back room while Rachel and a few others tended to the front. Despite being out of sight from the customer, that darn bell had Pavloved her into shouting the same words whenever it rang. Still, she was grateful to have a little extra work keeping her busy on the occasional lonely night -- though it was still early in the afternoon.
The blonde adjusted the ribbon adornment on her head and fluffed her bangs before grabbing up a huge box of napkins. It was enough to block her vision, but she assumed all would be fine as long as she was careful. Pressing her cheek against the cardboard, Claire tossed her hip toward the door to swing it open, crossing the floors while a familiar path guided her toward the tables in the back. Or so she thought.
Something Claire wasn’t expecting was a wet floor sign in her path. Despite it being neon yellow, it didn’t catch her glance until her foot was already stumbling over it. With a sudden yelp, Claire felt herself careening toward the floor, along with a flurry of napkins.
Hope we have workman’s comp--!!
Frilly and Fussy || Open
This had to be a joke.
Claire had just started at her sister’s cafe for the night and saw her uniform hanging in the changing room before her shift. A note was attached that read “Good luck~!” in Rachel’s familiar curly handwriting. Claire’s face was aghast in horror as she stared at the frilly, pink, downright girlish maid uniform. Rachel had warned her that this cafe was unconventional in the “best sort of ways.” She recalled that sentiment in her twin’s musical voice, as if there could be nothing for anyone to not like.
Still, Claire had a job to do, and her pride of catching up to her family member’s hard working attitude was growing stronger by the day. She slipped on the frock and, with some adjustments, positioned herself behind the hostess counter after setting up shop. The clock above her read 2:05. Maybe she’d be lucky and no one would come in for her first shift and she’d be spared some embarrassment.
A ting of the bell brushed aside the thought from her mind, and Claire turned her gaze to the door before stammering out her greeting. “W-Welcome in!”

Summer Sun || Open
With the change of seasons this time of year came the blistering island heat of summer. Back in the city, summers were hot, but nothing compared to the sweltering, humid heat that took over the air around the islands. This, of course, only called for one thing: a trip to the beach. What better way was there to cool off, after all?Â
Kasey, donning his board shorts, flip flops, sunglasses, and nothing else, made his way to the sandy shore. The beaches on Arcadia were small, nothing like the ones on Leuda that drove in tourists, but they served their purpose well enough. Before Kasey could truly enjoy the ocean, though, he had been bumped into, the soda in his hands tumbling down to the ground, fizzy liquid foaming in the sand.Â
“Agh, geez… Watch where you’re going,” he warned as he stared down at the ruined drink.
The afternoon sun was high in the sky by the time Claire had finished tending to her farms. She enjoyed the work, of course, but the summer heat made it nearly unbearable under its relentless rays. It was about time for Claire to find a way to cool off. Summer had kicked off already, and that only meant beach trips would be a weekly -- if not daily -- thing for her. After quickly rinsing off the dirt from her hands, the blonde slipped on a bandeau bikini with denim cutoffs and an over sized white tee. She grabbed up some refreshing orange juice before heading out.
By the time Claire reached the sand, there was barely a soul in sight -- perfect for a relaxing afternoon of cool water to soothe the heat. She kicked off her sandals and shimmied off her clothing before making a beeline toward the water. Just before she reached the shore, the blonde collided with someone, barely catching herself before toppling over. She blinked, looking down to see a sticky liquid all over her chest, partially coating her bathing suit.
The stranger’s words only angered her more. Claire clenched her fists and her teeth, blue eyes boring into his. “Me?! You should be more careful!” She looked down at her swimsuit, trying to bat away any drops of moisture from the fabric covering her chest as she whimpered. “My sister bought me this!”
