Beach Day on Leuda
If your muse participated in the Beach Day event, you can reblog this post for 2 activity points.Â
maid with fire | charles & claire
claireitall¡:
The days had dragged on in a fog since the beginning of summer, and especially so after the event at Leudaâs beach. Claire had been going about her days as usual; tending to her farm, which was already blooming into a bountiful array of summer crops, and occasionally working at her sisterâs cafe. During such dull afternoons, she would find herself thinking back on the striking man sheâd met that day, whoâs hair was aflame akin to her spirit. Though they talked much during the festivities, there was none other than a name that hung on Claireâs thoughts.
Despite multiple embarrassing occurrences that were all to do with her new uniform, she was no quitter. She had also made a bit of a name for herself with the customers, as certain people even liked when she chastised them or made a scene of crashing their plates down on the tables. It was a bit concerning, but at least Claire could act like herself, unlike the other maids who flit around the tables and were sweet enough to give her cavities.
It was such a listless day at the cafe. The blonde found herself staring at the delicately painted pink clock on the wall above her head, wiping the same glass over and over again as she counted the seconds. Tick, tock. Her mind wandered to that day; that man. The bell on the door did nothing to sway her attention, as her greeting was displaced among the other maids. Her thoughts were blinding, and she was sure her sister would find her daydreaming at any moment when â a voice.
Claire whipped around, her long locks twirling with her and the glass nearly dropping from her hand at the sudden action. Her blue eyes locked on him, and she thought it may be someone else for a moment â but his steel stare gave her certainty. She placed the glass on the counter in front of her, a surprising blush painting her cheeks with the use of the new nickname.Â
She had barely caught the humor heâd spoken, and a sweet smirk tugged at her lips. âYou⌠Very funny.â She adjusted the maid headpiece she wore â an accessory that came with more problems than not â and leaned down into a partial curtsy. When she rose, Claire let her eyes linger on his suit and well-kept hair. A much different look than beach attire, but it fit his air well, and he was dashing as usual. âAnd may I say, I didnât think this was your scene either â I guess itâs true you adapt well.â
â˘ď˝Ą ⧠A gentleman - regardless of how refined and dignified he may be - was, at the center of his being, still a man; silver eyes trailing down her figure like a waterfall - basking in the spectacle of her bizarre yet attractive uniform - admiring the sight beholden until she performed a curtsy that was, to say the least, on the verge of being cute. Nevertheless, Charles understood well that he could appreciate a piece of art when he was bearing witness to one - acknowledging it at best - but he could not touch despite the possibilities his insatiably curious imagination conjured up inside of his head; to believe that his mind ran rampant on the occasion of her indelible appearance from his beach, this certainly was the strawberry that adorned the top of the tiered cake embodying the inner mechanisms of his mind - like a robot on the path toward going potentially haywire, he rerouted his sensibilities and focused on his original intention for visiting the cafĂŠ in the first place; although, the sensation of her eyes exploring him as well required a moment for him to reboot.
âHave you forgotten what I have said about underestimating me?â His foxlike gaze cast a shimmer in his eyes whilst a devious smirk crept upon his face. âAdaptation is an essential component to any successful invention. Otherwise, the limits that restrict your creation hinder its potential and fullest functionality,â he precariously raised an eyebrow, âbut by now, you should know that I am a man of many wares - a jack of trades, if you will. You, on the other hand,â the mechanist ran his fingers through his hair, âare a woman of many hats. Who should I be expecting here? Or is that, yet again, another surprise up your sleeve... C?â

â˘ď˝Ą ⧠Everything that burns is not always meant to end as ash; his memory of a a maiden with blonde hair and blue eyes remained alit in his mind since that day on the beach - but eventually, a fire dies down, and one must return to reality. Here he was about a week or so later - booked back to back with meetings on Leuda about the mining company and, later in the day, the Funland Foundation on Arcadia; nevertheless, working was his drive - his motivation - and what fanned the flame inside of Charles to move closer toward achieving his goals and exceeding his own expectations - but the thought of the striking young woman he encountered lingered in the back of his mind despite his efforts to rule it off as an isolated event. At the end of the day, he understood that relationships of any kind were merely obstacles in his path toward vengeance and power - he refused to let anyone get in his way or hurt him again; once bitten, twice shy.
With some availability for lunchtime, he elected to visit a cafĂŠ that he rarely - if ever - frequented; he attempted to reserve his business on Arcadia unless deemed necessary on this wretched island, but considering the circumstances of his day - as well as his hunger that revealed itself through a grumbling in his stomach - he swallowed his pride. Charles had heard through the grapevine about this cafĂŠ - dishes and drinks were quality and recommended by the local townsfolk and tourists - but there was also an unconventionality about it that made its presence distinct on the island. He figured that time was of the essence - it could not possibly be as bizarre as he imagined it.
Alas, upon entering the establishment, the sight of maid dresses scattering the cafĂŠ captivated his attention - and in an attempt to stifle his laughter, he also wished to stifle a familiar flame from reigniting as his eyes befell upon seas of blue; however, her pink uniform that resembled cotton candy was comical enough to conjure up some ideas to make this meal a little more enjoyable.
âGood afternoon, fair maiden.â Charles spoke up from behind her - standing tall with pride, adjusting his tie. âMay I say that you are... quite the sight for sore eyes, C.â

Leia was at the beach. Nothing unusual. Ever since she arrived on land, she felt a calling to the sea. It was her home, after all. Still, while at the beach, she had to keep a safe distance from the tide to prevent any accidents. It was sad not to be able to jump into the ocean freely, but it was to keep her safe. Safe from what, she sometimes wondered, but her momâs warnings of land people always echoed in her head.
Sitting with her toes in the sand, Leia held her legs to her chest and felt the ocean breeze on her face. It was one of her favorite feelings. Something she would never have experienced if she hadnât washed up on the shore all those years ago. She got to her feet and decided to take a walk down the beach.
Upon reaching a more isolated section of the beach, she spotted something peculiar. A man and a robotâŚ? Now that was something you didnât see every day. She couldnât help but get closer, curious as to what the man was doing.Â
Just as she had gotten close enough to see what was going on, the robot bolted at her. The sudden action shocked her so much that she fell backward into the sand. She was sure the robot was going to attack her, but as abruptly as it started, it had stopped.Â
âI-Iâm sorry!!â she called out, responding to the manâs reprimands.
â˘ď˝Ą ⧠Charles sighed - albeit annoyed by the nuisance, he stepped back mentally and figured that he may have snapped a little too hard on her. It was preposterous of him to think that the ordinary individual would understand the potential sensitivity that electronics have with water; he clicked his tongue against the roof of his mouth and pulled on a lever for his robot to return by his side - to which he then approached the woman who was spread out on the sand. Indeed, it was a pitiful sight to behold, but the polite and chivalrous thing to do would be to see if she was okay - not like he honestly cared that much, sincerely.
â... Are you okay?â He asked from above with his arms folded across his chest.

Oh, what a polite man!
âCharles, it is.â She said with a cheery smile. Lily was left completely unaware as to the many thoughts, both negative and business-oriented, running through his mind.Â
âOh, I know. Itâs just beautiful, isnât it? Truthfully it used to belong to my mother, but, well⌠Well, things happened is all.â She shrugged and looked away. It was still a sore subject thinking that she had once lost the place she called home. But it was now hers again. She had no intention of letting it go again.
âIâd love to. But please, call me Lily.â
--
â˘ď˝Ą â§Â âI see.â From the perspective of an ambitious businessman striving for the goal of a partnership, it was beneficial that she was feeling comfortable enough to start opening up to him - a concept that was foreign to him, personally; however, from the perspective of a gentleman, he understood well the life circumstances that can arise with family and of the like. He decided to not press the matter further since her eyes were indicative that it was a subject she would prefer not to discuss; if anyone could empathize with that, Charles could - but he repressed that weakness of his long ago.
âYou have my gratitude, Lily.â He followed closely behind her, taking in his surroundings of the inn with a critical lens - inspecting for areas of improvement and strengths inherent to the property that Funland could capitalize upon. âHow is business here, if I may ask? I am not the most familiar with how hotels operate, but I suspect that the summer season is a popular time for tourists to visit.â
{ Charlesâs Attire - Beach Day â }
â˘ď˝Ą ⧠Suits and ties were his forte; outfits beyond those two were unbeknownst to him, or at the very least, not his prerogative - with the exception of pajamas behind closed doors. Charles would rather do just about anything else than attend Beach Day, especially on Leuda where he knew it would be sprawling with recreational activities and social interaction that would be, at best, inorganic; however, conversations with Alice led him to believe that it would be most beneficial to make an appearance. It is understandable, though, since there were many potential partners who would possibly be there.Â
Did he even own a pair of swim trunks? Coming from money and making his own money had its perks. He managed to find designer swim trunks he bought years ago in his dresser that would suffice.Â

Three Sisters Inn was a charming place, with its gorgeous ocean view and the nice weather the last days of spring was so kind as to provide. It was Lilyâs home, and a place she hoped others would one day come to see as their home as well.
However, it was also a business, and businesses came with their own set of problems. Though Lily tried her best to be a responsible adult, it was hard managing the inn without her sistersâ help. She made mistakes here and there, but she still wanted to better the inn. She had hoped working with other businesses would be just the thing her lovely home needed.
That was to be expected, she supposed. What she hadnât expected was for such a charming young man to make his way into the inn. He seemed polite, well-mannered, and all around pleasant - someone Lily was more than happy to work with. Though she did try to work with just a sliver of caution.
âGood afternoon, Mr. Kingsbury. Itâs a pleasure to have you here,â she said cheerily, a smile on her face as always. âIâm doing well, and you? Oh! And thanks for taking the time to work with me.â
â˘ď˝Ą â§Â âPleasure is all mine,â he reciprocated the friendly sentiment - scratching at the surface of his words for some sincerity to infiltrate his impassive words. It was a force of habit for the gentleman to automatically begin analyzing someone upon meeting them - reading into their mannerisms and gestures carefully, to which he came to the conclusion that her transparency of eagerness meant that pathos would be the proper route to pursue; considering how much he stifled his own expression of emotion, it sometimes astounded him how well he could mold himself to play the part in order to get what he wanted when working with people - businessmen are not charismatic in vain.Â
âAnd,â he gave a small wave of assurance with his hand in front of him, âplease - you may call me Charles. Mr. Kingsbury is the name of my father.â The last sentence left a bittersweet taste on his tongue, albeit a common phrase for him to use to alleviate the pressure of formalities - his disdain for that man was a secondary thought. âI am doing well, thank you - and, of course. Itâs nearly impossible to not look at this property with the oceanfront view. You have lucked out, Miss Brunel.â
âWould you mind showing me around? I would love to see more.âÂ

â˘ď˝Ą ⧠Workaholic is, admittedly, an accurate word to describe Charles; from attending meetings with business associates to supervising the foundation on Arcadia - as well as supervising the mining company on Leuda, every day he dedicated himself solely to his work. He did not burn out easily from the hustle and bustle of each day, but sometimes, it was essential that he take a brief break for himself unless he wanted to explode like an invention gone awry; therefore, he cleared his schedule for at least an hour or two in the afternoon, and he visited the Central Library to search for any new additions to their wide collection.
âDammit,â the businessman cursed under his breath, wandering from one aisle of shelves to the next in an attempt to find where they had moved the science fiction section; it was a nuisance - why they believed it was necessary to move it, he did not understand. âExcuse me, Miss-â he approached someone who appeared to be an employee there - sighing between gritted teeth at himself for asking for help, âcould you please direct me to where the science fiction section is? Itâs not where it has always been, which honestly does not make sense to me.â

â˘ď˝Ą ⧠Love and hate were two of the most intense emotions a human being can feel, and for the businessman, he experienced both toward his robots and the craft itself. He was an excellent mechanist - far and few in between amongst the islanders of the archipelago - who was confident in himself and his growth within the craft of robotics over the years; yet, there was a bittersweet flavor to his pride - each of his creations a reminder of what and who he has lost. Nonetheless, he understood that his talent was an invaluable asset, and oftentimes he brushed those lingering thoughts aside and invested his focus into the matter at hand - or, rather, the robot at hand.
Along one of the beaches on Leuda, he was practicing the controls of a robot he created recently - pulling levers and pressing buttons on his gadget to test the capabilities of the machine. It may have been more astute than he believed because it somehow managed to detect a presence within their vicinity, to which it reacted by sprinting toward the stranger in question.
Entertaining it may have been to watch the scene unfold, the mechanist forced his robot to stop at the mere push of a button.
âAre you aware,â Charles spoke with a slanted tone, âthat you should not sneak up on robots like that? Who knows what could have happened had it not been under someoneâs control.â
Just Business || Alice & Charles
@activatemyheartâ
Disgusting. That was all Alice could think. Absolutely disgusting that she was willingly in Starry Sky CafĂŠ. A place so empty would at least be a good place to have a meeting with Charles outside of Funland property (Well, it wasnât Funland Property for now.) Yes. She was there because it was empty. She, one hundred percent, unequivocally, did not just love the decor of the cafĂŠ. Nor did she want to spend some time catching up with her friend. No.
The silver haired CEO just barely thanked the waiter as her black coffee and raspberry panna cotta were placed in front of her, before reaching into her handbag, located on the other vacant seat at the table (Sheâd never put her handbag on the ground - Itâd mean sheâd lose all her money, and she didnât have any to start with!) and pulled out a file.
She slid the file across the table. âIâve drawn up the contract.â She said, âFor you to become the CEO of The Funland Foundation.â There was a hint of a smirk on her face, âYou can get it checked over by a lawyer, if you want, but consideringâŚâ Alice trailed off, the cafĂŠ was by no means full, but she hardly wanted her business matters made public knowledge, âEither way. Once you settle in to your role as CEO we can arrange a fundraiser. Invite all of the business owners on the islands. Schmooze.â
â˘ď˝Ą ⧠Yin and yang, the two business connoisseurs balanced each other fairly well within their affairs and beyond; whereas Alice was cold - like a diamond, Charles was hot - like the fire that compressed the mineral with heat to reveal an enchanting jewel; in their world, everything was beautiful - including the people in it, for they were no exception. He laughed under his breath toward her blatant dismissal of the waiter, to whom he expressed his gratitude to compensate for her lack of appreciation; it was entertaining to him how his perception of their dynamic played out in real-time, but for them, it was what resulted in their success thus far - and while people on the outside may hold their respective viewpoints of the silver-haired CEO, he knew her more than they ever would.Â
He raised his glass of black coffee to his lips, sipping as his gaze switched between her and the piece of paper she placed in front of him.
âI see.â Charles skimmed the contract before retrieving his briefcase in the seat on the other side of him and pulling out a file to place the contract in for safekeeping. âI trust that your proposed contract is fair, but I also trust that my lawyer would murder me if I signed without their knowledge... formalities,â he smirked, setting his briefcase back on the chair, âbut I do thank you for entrusting The Funland Foundation to my leadership. I ensure you that our foundation will be successful and more in the future - a bright one, considering who you are working with.â He had to insert praise for himself - it would not be like him to be humble all the time.
âYes, I agree. Given the property that we currently own, it would be in our best interest to host it at the Foundation - a neutral location, though it is technically on Arcadia,â he shrugged, taking another sip of his coffee. âHow are you otherwise, Alice?â He was always told to never mix business with pleasure, but his partnership and friendship with Alice were different - and, to be honest, he enjoyed her company. Sincerely.Â

â˘ď˝ĄÂ ⧠Charming; a trait that Charles and the inn he was visiting appeared to share, albeit the latter of the two was distinct with its own irony. He initiated engagement with the business owners that resided on both of the islands in order to expand the operations and influence of Funland beyond the amusement park; whereas Alice was the beautiful face that represented Funland on the surface, Charles was the smooth talker who maneuvered behind the scenes to ensure the success of the company - a confident and chivalrous gentleman who relied on his attractive appearance and schmoozing personality to sweet talk people into his favor. When the two were inspecting both islands to consider broadening their horizons, the property where the Three Sisters Inn was located caught their eye - especially with the gorgeous view of the ocean, it would be in their best interest to see about... well... he wouldnât go that far - not quite yet.
âMiss Brunel,â he spoke as soon as his silver eyes befell upon the woman at the front desk, closing the door gently behind him as he walked forward and adjusted his tie accordingly. âIt is a pleasure to formally introduce myself in person after corresponding with you through mail. My name is Charles Kingsbury, representing The Funland Foundation while here on behalf of business with your exquisite inn.â
âThank you for taking time out of your day to speak with me,â Charles bowed slightly with his hand across his chest - and a warm smile on his face, âHow are you?âÂ
