man the whole maid dress bit was already pushing it re: jax's being in the closet and all of that and there is an argument that can be made for zooble trying to crack that egg (good to do) but it also was clearly done as a way to humiliate jax or push her buttons (not good). and like im sorry but you don't get to be transmisogynistic to someone who treated you poorly its not a get out of jail free card. im not gonna do the whole hold zooble and gangle accountable thing bc theyre cartoon characters but i think thats something worth taking into consideration when discussing gangle and jax's dynamic.
I was talking with a TME friend about the tadc finale the other day (this was my first mistake) and I got to experience a deeply uncomfortable conversation in which she continually used he/him for Jax (I opened the conversation using she/her for Jax and talking about how happy I was that transfem Jax got confirmed) while blaming basically everything that went wrong through the whole series on her and talking about how much she thinks Jax sucks. And like sure whatever some people wonât like certain characters. But literally not even a few months ago I remember her telling me how Jax was her *favorite* character and when I pointed that out and said that it seems like people love complex/traumatized characters until theyâre transfem she just said âI donât have a problem with the transfem thing I just think heâs an asshole.â
Idk thereâs not really much of a point to this and youâre under absolutely no obligation to respond to/publish this ask youâre just the person I follow who Iâve seen talk about this kinda stuff the most. If nothing else it was a very sobering experience, I really need more TMA friends :/
The pronoun thing I don't think is a big deal. By the end of the show they're still he/him-ing Jax and even the final shots of her she's still not there. Goose has said she understands if people still call Jax he/him, idk I get it.
But I do think people are needlessly cruel to Jax and the show at large. The show was never giving us a happy ending and was always about finding purpose in a world you hate to be in. Melancholy is the name of the game and people gate gray endings, they want black and white. Say Jax is responsible for everything going wrong is insane, she didn't make Caine act like that.
Jax is not a nice character but we are not always nice people. I do think a lot of people turned in the series after the transfem reveal but idk. Fuck em. And fuck your friend.
If you say that Gooseworx wasn't blatant enough with how Jax was transfem then you're just being transmisogynistic.
Like, hmmmm, wonder why the transfem character that was homeless for a period of time might not have started physically transitioning yet? Is there some sort of situation that's prohibiting her from saving up for her transition? I wonder if there is a system of oppression that exists that kept her from feeling safe enough to publicly transition until years later??
"If you don't transition while in the middle of some of the worst financial and emotional strife in your life, you simply don't count as transfem." Is some Tara Knight shit, what the fuck is wrong with you?
"TADC doesn't examine transmisogyny" The whole reason Jax acts the way she does is because she's TMA? Her mom emotionally abused her after she came out to her are you fucking kidding me?? Is that not showcasing it??? Does it not count unless they do a reading circle for whipping girl?

I knew the second Gooseworx made the "It was sort of vague" reply to her post confirming transfem Jax, all the transmisogynist TADC fans would use that as their go to excuse to misgender Jax and insist she isn't transfem.
And it's so funny how these fucks completely ignored the literal years of artwork, merch, and comments from Gooseworx before this. Now that they got a singular reply from the exhausted transfem they were busy pedojacketing last month that gives the slightest bit of wiggle room, suddenly they'll listen to her!
And it's like, I know why Gooseworx made that reply. Jax's real world self is still in the closet and is only just starting to barely explore her gender and definitely is still using he/him pronouns. She literally described her outfit as "boymoding". It's just so fucking frustrating that these fucks are completely willfully misinterpreting what she means this bad just so they can strip her very personal work down.

This is the type of shit that I see off Tumblr about transfem Jax.
Literally misgendering a real trans women while having your tantrum about a fictional trans woman. Fucking hell.
Not only that but also gooseworx LITERALLY CONFIRMED JAX IS TRANS
No, you see, she said that it's fine to refer to Jax with either he or she pronouns, so that means Jax is a femboy.
This is the type of shit that I see off Tumblr about transfem Jax.
I'm feeling a bit more chill now. At the end of the day, this was all a disagreement over semantics. We could have just had a conversation. I would have been happy to have a good-faith conversation about the way I word and present these things and myself. But instead: a random tumblr user that I dont really know shows up out of nowhere and insults my identity.
Can you blame me for not engaging with that? I wasnt *supposed* to engage with that. She admitted that she just wanted to make me mad and provoke me. She called it hatemail. So then she turns around and goes on about her opinions, when to begin with, she never expressed those opinions to me. She rage baited me. That is the behavior of an internet troll, not a serious marxist.
She's not even completely wrong necessarily. I understand her perspective, there is merit to it. I wish she told me what that perspective was from the beggining, instead of acting like an edgelord.
So, she feels that It is wrong for me to call them "latina edits" because she feels i am assigning latinas to a certain skin color. I get that, but the truth is that the point of the edits is to look like me. I called them "latina edits" as an immediately understandable shorthand. If she had talked about this with me like the supposedly serious communist she is, I would have considered changing my vocabulary rather than, yknow, doing this. So, maybe I can start referring to them as "melanin edits" or "dark skin" edits or something. Thats not so hard is it?
Now, the second point is on whether or not I can call myself a mexican. And I don't know the answer to this truly. But to me I feel this is a matter of opinion. My father always called me a mexican, I always called myself a mexican, my friends, family, teachers, strangers, to everyone I have always been a Mexican. So its confusing for me to suddenly be not a real mexican apparently. Once again, I understand the logic, seeing as I dont currently live there. Was it so hard to just express your feelings to me? From my perspective, all I had done was call myself what I always have, and now an internet stranger mocked my ethnicity, my family, and even the way I spoke Spanish.
By the way, mocking my Spanish was increadibly rude. Anyway, to me, this is not a call that a stranger can make. I'm sorry, but I just can't accept that an internet stranger has more right to decide who I am than my own parents. That is simply unreasonable to me. I disagree, and I will continue to call myself a Mexican. Its ok if you disagree with that, but don't belittle my family and act like you know anything about me or my life.
In retrospect, I have been emotional and defensive today. At times I leaned too much into insults and anger. But honestly, I can't blame myself too much when, by her own admission, she wanted to get me mad from the start. So she is partially responsible for my distress as she intentionally wanted to cause it.
I don't want to be angry, and now that I understand her perspective slightly more, I don't want to hold a grudge. I think we need to act like the serious communists we claim to be and take these types of things seriously. So, I will be willing to forgive and forget if she can do the same for me. All I want is a one sentence apology, private or public.
I wonder how many of the people who despise Jax for being an unrelenting asshole are big fans of Sou Hiyori and excuse him for abusing his little sister and mentally breaking a teenage girl who's a victim of being groomed by the cult her dad is a part of.
The obvious answer is that Jax and Gooseworx are trans women while Sou and Nankidai are cis men, that's why people hate Jax but loooove the similar character archetype she has when it's inhabited by a cis man, written by a cis man.
Bringing this up again because now that Gooseworx confirmed Jax is indeed transfem and people can no longer deny that (though plenty are indeed doing that. Death of the author is a plague in fandom spaces) the next, and predictable, line is that she was a mega abuser who should suffer for all eternity even though she died in the finale. And you just don't see this shit for Sou. No one has ever wished for him to suffer past death despite all the fucked up shit he did in YTTD.
Like, Sou, an abuse victim, constantly antagonizes everyone with a false mask of bravado, causes someone close to him to essentially off themselves, acts like he knows exactly what's going on but loses his mind when it's revealed that he was completely wrong in his assumptions. Does this sound fucking familiar? Sounds pretty close to the shit Jax did in her show, but Sou is given infinitely more leeway.
And before anyone goes "Oh but Sou proved to be useful sometimes so thats why people give him slack!" Sorry, but not every abuse victim is able to show how quote "useful" they are to prove they deserve to live. Not everyone is an elite hacker like Sou or have some equivalent proficiency in something else to prove they are actually worthy of love and care even when they're shitty.
Trans women are assigned gender out of convenience for those who wish to control or abuse us.
One moment, we're a woman who can be spoken over, overlooked, and ignored. The next, (often when we have the gall to stand up for ourselves) we're men who are violent angry and abusive.
We have so little control of our own identities, we're a third sex to twist and transform to your convenience. No wonder we're so often scapegoated.
100% agreed, but I also want to bring up a similar concern specific to Black transfemmes: the intersection of gendered *racialization* and transmisogyny (as a subset of transmisogynoir)
By gendered racialization I mean the way that society views and treats us based on their categorization of us as Black Men and Black Women. While with what OP is describing it tends to be an either/or situation, for Black transfemmes, being openly/visibly Black and transfemme makes us subject to both concurrently. We do not get to leave being a âBlack Manâ behind even temporarily in the eyes of others, especially given societyâs view of all Black women as being âmasculineâ no matter how âfemininelyâ we present or behave.
For us, gendered racialization compounds each other, leaving us to be treated as both Strong and Aggressive Black Women and Virile and Violent Black Men at all times. We are often âpositivelyâ reduced to the ways we can support those around us or our sexual prowess/characteristics (real or rumored), while the second a nonblack person has something to gain from our suffering thereâs no issue painting all of our actions as intimidating, aggressive, or forward. Of claiming a fear of violence, of harm, of impropriety that will be believed by many nonblacks no matter how we truly act or what we do.
Recently, another Black transfemme I know was accused of being a âhomeless attempted coercive rapistâ for commenting that she was going to take a nap in her car (before going back to her apartment) because she didnât feel sober enough to drive responsibly. Later on, a white trans woman who was leaving at the same time used this to try to claim that she was trying to force her to let her come home with, and sleep with her because âshe was homeless and sleeping in her carâ despite the Black transfemme having an apartment at the time and the white trans woman knowing this.
The white womanâs reasoning? Another white trans woman had a crush on the Black trans woman, and the first white wanted to fuck the second, so she was willing to try and use these facets of gendered racialization to try to eliminate the Black trans woman from the âcompetitionâ on a whim.
This isnât a rare occurrence, and for many Black transfemmes not in majority-Black spaces, this happening is a âwhenâ not an âifâ and a constant consideration we have to account for. If thereâs not another Black transfemme around (such in small queer communities or isolated friend groups) we may be taken completely unawares by something thatâs just.. sickeningly common.
Which is why I feel itâs important to highlight this on the back of OPâs post - because even nonblack transfemmes have no issue using this against us if it benefits them. Even the staunchest transfeminists arenât immune to the allure of using transmisogynoir to their own benefit. But you have to know to be a hypocrite, and now yâall canât say you ainât know.

did you see theyâre making kanji straight in p4r
(his shadow went from holding two male symbols to one male and one female)
Yeah⌠đ plus they didnât keep the âgood with your handsâ line from yosuke
I wasnât gonna buy the game either way but itâs disappointing to see theyâre seemingly trying to ⌠idk. Sanitize things
Atlus really is doubling down on the "thank god we're not actually faggots" messaging that kneecapped the original games message, huh?
Also the discourse is somehow gonna be even worse now that Atlus is making a concerted effort to remove the very things that supported those queer readings. New players are gonna be confused why people have been seeing the P4 as queer for years and the transphobic/homophobics fans of P4 will call them all degenerate gooners or some shit for daring to read the words on screen and see connections to gay and trans lives.
