What I learned from going to my very first comedy show today:
1) sitting second row was the correct choice
2) I need to bring ear plugs to any venue now. Anything with microphones are going to be very loud.
3) my anxiety slinky stim is not an appropriate outward stim. It's not low key enough. It can be distracting.
4) 8pm show is the latest I'll attend
5) I did good by not cackling at the expense of others.
6) be brave and try going to another thing.
I had fun today, got free guest list tickets from Samuel J Comroe through Facebook! My first time ever going to a comedy show. It was fun. Awkward at first, I didn't know etiquette, what was and wasn't allowed, and I had to study the food menu of course over and over again before I got there, but I thought I was doing well! Until Adam pointed out that I was stimming PRETTY HARD. slapping my chest with my extended mini metal slinky is not, socially appropriate in a large setting. Granted it was maybe a venue of less than 50 people, for a crowd, I should have done my stimming more discreetly. Anyway. I had a good time. I think I will be okay going to more in the future.
Nobody else said anything ofc but, of course, hind sight is 20/20 and I was stimming hard to be ok to be there sitting in the dark. It's a very strange way to be laughing in the dark and knowing it's mostly rhetorical commentary and I'm not supposed to respond. But yeah what an interesting social outing for me to learn about.
