@stealingyourbones has made some delightful food abominations, which taught me I can replace the water in bread with almost any liquid.

So I tried Miso.

The yeast loved it and frothed up super fast. Mixing miso broth with the egg and oil smelled funky. The dough didn’t rise any fluffier than usual but the texture feels good. Then I decided to roll in some black garlic and green onion. I’d add nori crumbled up but I ran out.

This is amazing. It tastes like if miso soup was solid. The flavor is immaculate. It’s just missing the nori flavor. I can add that next time because I am 100% making this again.

Here’s my Gma Vesta’s hamburger bun recipe:

1 Tbsp yeast

1/2 cup warm water (miso broth)

- mix together and let it froth up

1 1/2 cup warm water (miso broth)

1/2 cup sugar

1 1/2 tsp salt

1 egg

1/4 cup olive oil

- mix all together, then add frothy yeast

5 1/2 - 6ish cups flour

- mix in slowly with a fork until it’s hard to stir with the fork, then stir together with hands until it stops sticking to your skin when you rub your hands together.

- knead the dough about 10min until it starts pushing back (it gets springy)

Let the dough rest for 30min.

(I make a redneck proof box by microwaving a cup of water and quickly replacing the water with the dough bowl and shutting the door to give it a warm place to nap. Do not microwave the dough itself by reflex.)

Roll out the dough and add any flavors you like. For the miso soup bread I chopped up a couple black garlics, and a handful of green onion. Roll it up like cinnamon rolls, cut into 12, and roll each into a ball shape.

Stick in a greased 9x13 casserole dish and let the dough rise to double size. (About 40min-1hr depending on how warm your kitchen is.) (the redneck proof box won’t fit my casserole dish so I stick the rolls on top of the oven while it preheats with a dish towel over it.)

Preheat the oven to 350 and when the dough looks nice and squishy bake it for 20min.

You can brush butter on top if you want. That would look pretty and help a sprinkling of furikake stick after you pull it out of the oven. If you wanna up the miso taste you can also spread a very thin layer of miso paste in before you roll it up with the other fillings. I’m gonna try that next time.

Cherry Bark (or blossoms)

Mortar & Pestle (or spice grinder)

Note: Powdered versions of most herbs are available online. I recommend such sites as Starwest Botanicals and Penn Herbs for the quality products at reasonable prices. Also, if you can get your hands on a good spice grinder, you can make your own powder from dried herb products.

Grind each ingredient separately to produce fine powder. Sieve the material through the mesh strainer into the collection dish; this removes the larger unground pieces and gives you cleaner powdered herb. (Pro- Tip: Putting a funnel under the mesh strainer reduces lost material and makes collection much easier.)

Combine the component powders in the collection dish, mix well, and bottle immediately. For volume, go heavier on the less expensive or more easily available materials like Red Roses, Cloves, and Cinnamon. Otherwise, combine in more or less even amounts.

Use in any spellwork designed to ease pains of the heart, be they from loss, fatigue, relationships, loneliness, or general sadness. Add to charms to help one recover from emotional pain.

This is not foolproof for everyone, and this I must state. It works for this fool (*aggressive points at self*) and the magick is basic, so I’m hoping it’ll work for you too!

Essentially, this is a protection bottle. It is known as a ‘decoy’ or ‘entrapment’ bottle because like traditional witch bottles, this is used to attract negative energies and therefore, it draws them away from you. 

You Will Need:  To personalize your jar, you can omit or add ingredients; this is just my go-to, foolproof version.

A glass jar or ceramic jar with a sealable lid, such as a screw on cap or cork. 

Sea Salt (protection) 

Black Pepper (dispels evil) 

Cayenne Pepper (enhances power) 

A tangle of black thread. 

Nails/pins/broken glass. 

Something from your physical body; blood, semen, urine and/or spit are the best but if you’re uncomfortable/don’t want to use the aforementioned, nail clippings or hair will suffice! 

*DISCLAIMER: when drawing blood, use sterilised equipment. Be hygienic and safe as even small wounds can fester if proper precautions aren’t taken. 

Ashes of a sigil you’ve burnt (ideally a sigil for either protection or to draw negative and baneful energies away from you, or one for courage). 

Alcohol (such as wine or strong spirits). 

Chili flakes.

A candle (make sure the colour of your candle matches your intent. I use black, but your colour correspondences may differ from mine).

Now, you need to bung all of your ingredients into the bottle. Just chuck them in; this bottle does’t have to look pretty, and the chances are that the sealing wax will run down and obscure the contents anyway!

Once everything is inside, you must seal the bottle. You do this by either using a tea candle and melting the wax (by lighting the candle or by heating the tea lights on a burner or stove - please be careful!) and rolling the top of the bottle in the wax until you create a seal around the cork/lid, or by dripping hot wax from a pillar candle over the cork/lid. Once sealed, give the bottle a good hard shake. If you like, you can empower the bottle and the magick by charging it with negative thoughts. Direct them towards the bottle; fill it with anger or sadness and general negative feelings. Imagine a darkness; a slithering tendril moving through your hand and into the bottle.

The final little bit of magick, is as follows: Take the bottle in both hands and close your eyes. Breathe slowly; in and out, in and out. When you’re ready, speak or think these words and repeat them as many times as you feel are necessary:

May forces that seek to harm me, seek this bottle in my place, May forces that bear ill-will unto my being, impart them to this bottle in my place.

There are no sources cited. The article is presenting a new idea, tackling what they believe is a misconception, or just declaring some sort of fact. The burden of proof is on the presenter to back up their claim and provide evidence for it. (If the only viable evidence is personal experience, they should make that clear and describe what about their experience this idea is coming from.)  

It’s all a little too convenient. If the information feels too good to be true, it probably is. If the entities being described seem only to exist for your benefit, the results promised seem wildly disproportionate to the work, or there’s absolutely no way to possibly do it wrong, be wary.

Living cultural practices are cited as a monolith.  Bonus points if it’s in the past tense, as if these groups have mysteriously died out and not still practicing these things and rolling their eyes at the OP. Often it’s used to exotify and possibly appropriate from the group in question. “Native Americans believed that…” and “This is an old Hindu method of…“ are prime examples. It’s a huge tell that the person doesn’t actually know anything much about that group and shouldn’t be trusted on the subject. 

It’s a book published by Llewellyn. Okay so this isn’t a post thing but still, sometimes people will just post book passages. Llewellyn is good in how widespread and accessible they are in the world of witchcraft, pagan, and occult books, but they have seemingly no vetting system for what they choose to publish (like the notorious Silver Ravenwolf.) The average reliability of a book under their title isn’t great, so just take it with a grain of salt while you learn more. 

The OP is very young. Of course age does not equal expertise, but it does come with life experience and more potential for maturity, critical analysis skills, and access to resources and education. Also let’s be real: if I’m going to be taking spiritual or witchy advice from someone, I’m going to trust it a lot more from someone who’s at least old enough to vote.
