Summer's End

The summer days winding to a close,

August yawns in silent repose.

Cicadas languish in the trees,

the smell of Autumn on the breeze.

Twilight comes softly in shades of blue,

stretching out to meet sunset's golden hue.

The songbirds cry, the crickets sing a lullaby.

As if to mourn sweet summer's end

and serenade the warm night wind.

As summer creeps slowly to her bed,

the trees whisper softly to themselves..

Crisp changing leaves and morning dew,

it seems as though the summer quickly flew.

Soon there will be pumpkins and county fairs

homemade pies, sweaters and football parades.

Perhaps Summer fading into Fall

isn't quite so mournful after all.
