the parasocial and weird behaviour of the 5sosfam actually kills me, and was a big reason i took a step back years ago.
Not respecting the boy's privacy
if you didn't know, someone posted a video on tiktok that had luke and sierra's daughter in it. after them explicitly saying they wanted to keep their daughters identity private. now, i didn't see the video so idk if she was just visible in it, or if she was the main focal point, which contextually i do think matters. If she was the focal point there is ZERO reason to take a video of a strangers child without their consent to begin with, but it is even worse that her parents have explicitly denied consent!! If she wasn't the focal point and was a small part of the video, I can understand that if the person who took the video wasn't super in the fandom they genuinely may not have known that she was luke's daughter, or that they have asked people to keep their daughters identity private. with that being said, if that were the case, the response should have been SO different. once people started to see the post they told the poster to take it down, and that luke's daughter whose identity is supposed to be private, is in it. if this person was a casual fan, who genuinely didn't know, the immediate response should have been to remove the video and apologize. from what i've seen, there was zero accountability, zero apology, and instead of removing the video they made it for their friends only. once you post things, its on the internet forever, someone has probably downloaded the video (which is an issue in itself, but i digress). so while you may have made a mistake, you can't undo it, so taking accountability and apologizing is the least you can do. so fuck that person and having no respect for the boys and their privacy
Being mean to the boys
I know as a fandom we poke fun at the boys, we always have. we call them out on their bullshit, we make jokes about them being unc, but there has to be a line. all the discourse about cashton being cheaters is really weird. im not saying a thought here or there reminding yourself that they aren't perfect is fine, but i think its really weird when i see tiktok after tiktok about wanting to be cheated on by them or calling them cheaters. i don't condone cheating, but i also don't think its okay to talk about people like that regardless of the decisions they have made, especially when you don't know them personally. but even beyond that, there was a video from one of their soundchecks of someone asking a question and then telling the boys to use their brains. now is that the worst thing you can say to someone? no, but i also think its a rude way to talk to someone, period. on 5sostwt someone was calling sidequest, "flopquest" and saying how much they hated it, and again, you are allowed to not like something but you don't have to be rude about it? idk i feel like real fans who have listened to the boys talk about how fame has impacted them, and the struggles they've had with their mental health because of it all shouldn't be saying shit like that.
Anyways rant over, but my closing thoughts. we don't know the boys, they dont owe us details about their private life, its a privilege for them to share what they choose to share. i had to take a step back from this fandom years ago bc of the toxicity, and i came back because i love the boys, but something has to change omg. they are literally just people
