It's gonna be May^^
Tomorrow is May 1st. In Norway that marks the time of two weeks were students on their third year in highschool celebrates finishing school. It is known as “Russetid”/“russefeiring”. The students or “russen” will drive big vans and dress them selves in red (there are other colours like blue, black and green based on the subject they have studied(I was green for agriculture) but red is 90% of them) and party hard, pulling pranks like waterguns on the firstyear students etc.
Luckly for me the library is a no water sone so I’m pretty safe and I have inforced the no pranks sone here too. “Russen” usually pull pranks on those poor unfortunate souls that they don’t like (kidnapped and then tossed in the seas is common) but in my library this is not acceptable.
You may wonder how people accept this, well they don’t. Every year the schools make plans to make the “russ” behave but many of their traditions are so firm that its nearly impossible to stop them. No I don’t say that all “russ” is terrible beings torturing poor students, many are volunteering in kindergardens, making fun times for the children og does something fun with some local charity organisation etc. but for the most of them this is two weeks of party, drinking, sleeping around, pulling pranks and living wild. Then on may the 17th they will walk in the 17th of May parade (for our national day)and then its over. After the 17th its back to school and last exams etc before summer.
^^ strange traditions right?
hm I wonder if I still have a picture of me from my time as “russ”? I’ll have to check on my homecomputer.
