When Outlast: Whistleblower came out I found it fascinating to watch the differences between the way male streamers reacted to Eddie Gluskin compared to female streamers. Women were overall quite calm and treated the situation like any other horror event, while so, so many male streamers were beyond disgusted and horrified.
It's strange to assume, perhaps, but I believe Outlast: Whistleblower forced many guys to experience the fear of being sexually harassed, stalked and raped for the first time in their lives. They're so used to playing as the heroic male lead that when this game forced them in a role usually reserved for women in horror it was treated as one of the most terrifying and stressful game sections ever at the time.
Meanwhile women make cute Eddie Gluskin fanart, call him a little mew mew and laugh in his face while playing because while he's a horrific character, the horror he represents for women is nothing new.
