This year's echo Art Fair was held at the Central Library in downtown Buffalo, NY. The fine art fair was well-attended and action-packed with artists and galleries from Toronto, Pittsburgh, Brooklyn, and of course Buffalo's own cream of the crop. I connected with old friends and new acquaintances, and best of all I was blessed to sell through most of my new work (3 of the black and white pieces are still available -- email [email protected] for details).

Sad to go over Tom Holt's previous mural, but pleased to have won the grant-funded mural at 224 Allen St. I wanted to create an artwork that not only lined up with the Glow Gallery/In The Loop mission statement, but something that could speak out to the diverse community living in Allentown. As a person of mixed race, the occasional feeling of being an 'outsider' was the jumpoff for the creation of the mural. Overcoming adversity makes us who we are, and embracing our differences can make a positive impact within our community. With spray paint and a ladder, the mural went through numerous revisions. Titled "Voyage", I created an androgynous figure in a boat paddling against strong currents of water, with a lighthouse guiding the way. I imagined a person on the journey of life, and with that, comes the unforeseen hardships and obstacles that one must face. Sometimes we have to use our inner light to guide us through the darkest of times. The photos show the process and finished mural, along with my prelimnary sketch and reference. After completing the side wall of 515 Main St in collaboration with OGRE and Max Collins, painting a solo mural on the back wall was great opportunity (thanks to Erica Eichelkraut). I was able to do my own thing as long as I could incorporate a touch of Buffalo. After brainstorming, the architecture of the staircase lent itself as a sunken ship. I wanted to create an underwater scene with old school divers, in search of a buried treasure. What better way than to include the Stanley Cup -- we have such diehard hockey fans in Buffalo, and the search to win the Stanley Cup continues. (back of Main St Studios on Washington St and E.
