“RISE”
By Chuck Tingley
A city “built on beer,” none of the 36 breweries operating in the Cincinnati area in the mid-1800s survive, the last closing in 1999. With the worldwide resurgence in craft brewing however Cincinnati was recently ranked as number 4 on a list of best U.S. cities for beer drinkers. Built within what remains of the 1895 Moerlein bottling plant, in Cincinnati’s historic Over-the-Rhine Brewery District, Rhinegeist—which translates as “Ghost of the Rhine”—is leading the way. In 2016 Rhinegeist partnered with ArtWorks Cincinnati and turned to Buffalo, New York artist Chuck Tingley to create this work across Elm Street from their 25,000 square foot visitor center and tap room. Typically relying heavily on the human figure for his subject matter, for this beer-making inspired portrait Tingley showcases the humble hop. @chucktingley @rhinegeist @artworkscincy @streetartcities
