Choices Fandom Appreciation

Thanks for contacting us, and it's no bother at all.  The reason these fandom tags are unfilterable is because Choices: Stories You Play is not really a single game, but a whole series of separate visual novels, each with a different storyline and different characters.  It's analogous to a collection by an author containing multiple unrelated stories, as opposed to a single novel.  The AO3 tag wranglers no longer canonize fandoms such as this, and are trying to break these down when possible so as to canonize the specific stories, rather than the collection as a whole. 

In the case of these fandoms, the individual Choices visual novels that have been tagged for have been canonized.  For example Choices: Hero (Visual Novel), Guinevere (Choices: Stories You Play Visual Novel), and It Lives (Visual Novels) are all canonical fandoms.  

Most works that have been tagged with a generic tag such as Choices: Stories You Play are also tagged with the specific visual novel being written for, so these generic tags have been left permanently unfilterable in the No Media category.  These works can be found through the specific visual novels that have been made canonical.  However, the first time Choices (Visual Novel) was tagged, the work was for It Lives, and no other fandom tags were used. To make this work findable, the fandom wranglers chose to make Choices (Visual Novel) a synonym of It Lives (Visual Novel).  Unfortunately, since then, more works have been tagged with this synonym, and most of them are for a different visual novel, Perfect Match. Since wranglers can't change the tags on works, there is nothing we can do other than to move the synonym to Perfect Match. However, all of the Perfect Match works are also tagged for Perfect Match (Visual Novel), so while moving the synonym would get these works out of the It Liv (Visual Novel) tag, it would mean that the work with no other tags would no longer be found under It Lives.

If you would like to make sure your works are easily findable, the best thing to do is to tag each work with the specific visual novel it's associated with. (And it would be super helpful if you would share this recommendation with others in this fandom, if you can!)

I continue to tag mine 'Choices: Stories you play' as well as 'Endless Summer' and hope this is a decision that might be reversed someday. I really wanted to search the overall tag and see what people were writing. It's far more if a pain to have to check each story tag separately 😭🤞
