dad!zayne headcannons
dad!zayne who had been taking his daughter out for ice cream since she was a newborn. you’d always protested against it, since it wasn’t like she could eat ice cream anyways and he should really watch the sugar he’s injesting because he’s just got two new cavities filled blah blah blah…but the sight of the two of them, with your baby daughter in one of zayne’s arms and a ice cream cone in the other…beaming at you at the doorway…you don’t have the heart to tell him to stop.
dad!zayne who resorts to reading his daughter out of his old medical textbooks as a bedtime story, when she still won’t go to sleep after he read her five different fairy tales. unsurprisingly, she falls asleep before he can even finish reading the foreword.
dad!zayne who had filmed so many moments with his daughter on a videorecorder. each video started with a narration from him, which always sounded as if he was beginning a video tutorial for surgery, with his serious tone and official medical language: ‘today, my baby girl has presented with a superficial abrasion over the patellar region for the first time’ (she scraped her knee) ‘but it’s alright, because daddy has band-aids with snowmen on them to fix it.’
dad!zayne who bought his daughter her own stethoscope toy set when she saw his and insisted to play with it. he teaches her how to use the stethoscope properly, as if it isn’t a plastic toy, and follows her around diligently as her nurse when she plays doctor to all her stuffed animals. he lets her pretend she heard something, and plays along when there’s an ‘emergency’ because she’s no longer hearing a heartbeat from her teddy bear. he carries you around bridal style when your daughter suddenly insists you have to play with them as the patient.
dad!zayne, who’s evol is slowly getting more out of control by each day. he doesn’t know what to say for the first time, when one day, his toddler daughter runs into his arms after the end of kindergarten and asks him why his hug feels so much colder than usual. or when she noticies ice forming on her shoulder where he had patted her. or when she asks him why after she asks him to make some flurries of snow in the summer, that he sounds in pain and has red scratches on his hands.
and dawnbreaker, who could only feel his daughter’s embrace, hear her laugh, see her smile, carry her to bed, celebrate her birthday, hold her as a baby for the first time…through a fleeting dream.
