growing up as a third culture kid meant i always looked for things to anchor me back to my roots, my home. number one on that list will fs be music cuz tell me why listening to thaniye mizhikal will always take me back to my porch back home, where i sat on the plastic chairs as rain fell in fat droplets, tall palms swaying on the horizon and the occasional mango falling down, surrendering to the force of the wind? where tea time didn’t feel like just routine but a sacred time when the day was unpacked over packets of ettekya chips, where wisps of incense swirled into the air, mingling with the faint smell of petrichor. where my memory of my grandpa wasn’t reduced to his pictures and talks with my grandma didn’t happen over crackling phone calls but face to face, heart to heart. where home didn’t feel like four walls, but comfort and belonging,

if someone would ask what is my biggest flaw id say procrastination, but if you’d stay around for a minute i’d say it’s the fear of never being understood by the man i love. no one has stayed for the extra minute yet.
