New goddess idea: She’s an earth goddess of the new age who’s domain is spinning and weaving, but specifically spinning and weaving gigantic structural steel cables for construction and other industrial purposes. Her skin is steel grey and hard to the touch and her hair is like long dredlocks of woven steel. She laughs at shitty architecture deigns that will fall apart if actually built and protects well-made bridges and buildings she likes. She might warn you of unforseen danger if you always wear your proper PPE.

Birthday Gift

Outside of Thomas’ apartment is a rather unwieldy box with a large white bow and a letter attached. The letter reads:

My dear Thomas,

Congratulations on seeing this world complete another circuit through our universe. When one bears the years that I have it becomes more meaningful to celebrate the lives of others than oneself, so I pray that you will accept this gift and join me to sate your hunger when you have the time and inclination.

I realize that you have no shortage of weapons, but thought that perhaps something new would interest you. Commissioning a forge master to replicate something from fantasy was easier than I anticipated. I am not certain how one is to use an item like these, but if anyone is capable of it, then it is you.

Enjoy them, and thank you for the companionship you have provided me thus far. You have been a blessing beyond measure.

Thomas could tell from the first sentence alone that this was a gift from Althea. He grinned at her invitation. Hopefully she wouldn’t mind him turning up unannounced the following day to thank her directly, because that was precisely what he meant to do. Clothing, he assumed, was optional.

The gift itself was curious. He brought it back inside and unwrapped it, and he had to admit that he wasn’t quite sure what the two items were. She had provided no explanation, but from the sharp edges they were plainly meant to be weapons. This made sense. She knew of his fondness for experimenting with different blades, and these were certainly different.

He found them surprisingly balanced when he hefted them for the first time, although perhaps that shouldn’t have been so surprising considering the equal weight on both ends–and when he swung them curiously, he promptly drove a deep gash into one wall, misjudging their weight and momentum. Oops. He could just… hang a poster over that until he got around to fixing it.
