Focusing so heavily on external appearance misses the entire point of Mass. Take the tradition of veiling, for example: its purpose is to block out distractions and look past the people around you so you can focus strictly on God. God looks at the heart, not our attire. Instead of judging families who are making the effort to attend, we should focus on our own disposition before God.
