personality :
cherry can be interesting and fun to be around, an enigma because her real feelings are often hidden and hard to understand. when you don't get too close, you can enjoy her company for a night or an evening and then move on with your life but a second glance will have you see her hardness and an extension of bitterness that's been building throughout her life. she isn't unfriendly but she isn't always as inviting as you might expect; she has a lot of walls up even with her own family that make it really hard to know her. she can be funny and enjoy a party but when it comes to vulnerability, it can be hard to get close or get true compassion from her because it makes it uncomfortable. very much tries to conceal, don't feel but it fails miserably. she can be very reactive, emotional and generally fly off the handle as she doesn't cope with things well. she wants to be a baddie but she's actually just a big saddie.......
background :
cherry was born in a mobile home unit on the edge of devils lake called cherryhill mobile home park hence her parents nicknaming her cherry, something that would follow her throughout her life and work as a pretty cute nickname initially.
when it came to following after anybody, cherry definitely took after her father. he was always invested in quick money schemes, up to no good and generally someone that caused nothing but issues for everyone else in their life. her parents might have started off strong but they separated when she was young and her beloved father became the full package weekend dad.
cherry was smart, her mother really encouraged her intelligence and she became a young mathematician, very talented in her field. her father had other uses for her skills such as calculating probabilities and using her abilities for squeezing other for some quick cash. even so, their daughter was both parents pride and joy.
although cherry followed after her dad, she didn't get into too much trouble... she was rough around the edges and her mother managed to make a new life for herself as an aesthetic nurse, remarrying to what cherry would always call "some guy," even after 10 years. unable to see clearly why people needed to make the right choice for them, cherry was always bitter about something and she wanted the world to know it. she was very much the type of person who blamed everyone else and felt like the world was against her... much to her mothers chargrin.
high school was a time for her mathematical skill to flourish and leading on from that, her friendships and relationships. she managed to build relationships with almost everyone to some extent but that feeling that her life was way harder, never seemed to fade away. it would make little sense to those around her but cherry was never able to look on the bright side of life.
after chris' death then cherry went off the deep end, swore to never do maths because why did they deserve to use their skill after what they had done to chris? as always, it was all about her and how she could feel worse about it... never about moving on. she didn't end up going to college and started working in a bar instead where misery loved company. she'd have brief moments where she'd try something else but give up because what's the point?
connections :
chris wilder - friend - chris and cherry were good friends; she loved his optimism and felt that he was able to always see a silver lining. after his death she would begin to idolise him even more making it seem like the only good thing in the world was now gone.
