"Ohmigod hiiii Logan!" Merritt trots up behind Logan with a wide smile and bright eyes - a genuinely happy expression, even if she gets the feeling that the venue manager doesn't like having to interact with her outside of the forced proximity at work functions. Sticky Fingers is bouncing with activity: a full dining room of laughing, eating patrons; a harried staff filling orders as fast as they can; a small group of hungry customers milling about the pick-up area, of which Logan (and now Merritt) are apart of. It's her turn to cook dinner, which is exactly why she's waiting for the order she called in this morning.
It's her day off, okay? No one's going to catch her in the kitchen tonight.
Merritt's being maybe a little too friendly, but she's trying to tread carefully. The news of her and Noa's breakup is as public as the rest of their relationship, which means there's no doubt in Merritt's mind that Logan's feeling particularly evil; Merritt's crush on Noa is as obvious as everything else about her. "Don't tell me you're about to take down some ribs in a white t-shirt. That's like, so brave. I feel like I turn into a total rabid dog when I crack open my styrofoam container."
logan doesn’t even need to see merritt to be annoyed by her presence; her voice does the trick. even if she wasn’t (constantly, obviously, desperately) trying to fuck noa, logan can’t imagine a world in which she’s a fan of merritt’s; she’s always been too practical by half to be anything but annoyed by all the woo-woo shit. it’s hard enough to take juno seriously all the time, and she likes juno.
besides, there’s no way the universe would share its secrets with someone so fucking annoying.
her eyes flick dismissively across merritt, “hey,” she volleys back, though her tone should make it clear merritt’s not a welcome presence. one eyebrow arcs in response to merritt’s observation. she exhales a huff of humorless laughter. “it’s not brave. i just don’t eat like a dog.” the kid at the counter calls out a name that doesn’t belong to either of them, and logan folds her arms over her chest. “i thought you guys had a rotating schedule of who cooks.” which she only knows because monty has talked about shane’s cooking like he’s going to file adoption papers. maybe the only way merritt can compete is by outsourcing to sticky fingers. given logan is also standing in line for takeout, she shouldn't judge. that doesn't stop her.

"I'm not sure if I should chalk that up to you wanting the business, or—" Marlowe murmurs, and they nudge their empty shot glass forward. "If you're just being hospitable. Either way..."
Their gratitude is made apparent. It wouldn't be much of a homecoming tour if they didn't have a venue at home to perform at. It wouldn't be the same in Columbus or Cincinnati, even at the prospect of a bigger audience size being possible. Colossal deserved the intimacy of Fight Club and familiarity of musicians on the rise of popularity performing for them.
Who would they be without their first fans?
"It was good. The crowds were bigger than expected, not that they don't deserve it."
The sudden influx of popularity that could be seen in real time was a motivating factor that kept Marlowe on track.
( As if they ever had trouble staying on track before... )
Whereas for some others, it was potentially dizzying and too mind blowing to take in stride.
"It's a good time for some R and R, but I'm already looking forward to the next tour."
Or single.
Or EP release.
"I'm surprised this is the first you're hearing about it," Marlowe pries with the subtle narrowing of their eyes. "Unless you already got the details and you're just asking to make conversation. Either way, it was the most fun I’ve had in a while."
“oh, no, i want the business,” logan confirms, though she’s smiling when she says it. dutifully, she refills the shot glass in front of marlowe. briefly, her eyes flick to the clock on the wall to check how long she’s been keeping the openers waiting. longer than they would want, she’s sure, but she wasn’t impressed by them during their sound check; she doesn’t anticipate them lasting long. she looks back at marlowe. “but either way, you’re welcome.”
she hums in acknowledgment of marlowe’s comment on what 2nd heaven deserves, avoiding giving her own opinion on the matter. it’s not that she disagrees, it’s that she doesn’t want to actually say she agrees. luckily, they turn the conversation back towards themselves.
logan snorts. “how about you finish this tour first,” she says like their ambition isn’t the thing logan admires most about marlowe.
“no, this is the first time i’ve heard of it.” she was too busy fighting with noa the night before to get a rundown of how the tour went. shifting her weight to rest her hip against the bar, logan crosses her arms over her chest. “but here’s hoping we both get lucky and you’ll be back on the road having the time of your life sooner rather than later.” she spins the cap of the handle that’s still open. “not that i’m trying to get rid of you. just the rest of them.”
“noa,” she manages to keep a straight face yet avoids making eye contact with logan. eventually, ana looks up and breaks, chuckling at her own joke. it’s funny because it’s so outlandish. noa isn’t on her radar, not like that. he's famous for his singing voice and his ability to piss her off, which she assumes logan would understand better than anyone else. however, ana does appreciate having another person who is watching out for victor. so, he does have that going for him.
“no, it was someone i met at jukebox last week and it was terrible,” she takes a quick sip of the redbull before placing it down, ready to fully immerse herself into the story. “he was already a boring date, but then an hour went by and we ran into his girlfriend.” ana's whole body shudders, remembering how awkward and uncomfortable the situation was. it doesn't get much worse than that. “safe to say he isn’t the one. and neither was the guy from last week, or three weeks ago… ugh, all these men suck. are you sure you want to be single again?”
neither amusement nor annoyance crossing logan’s face at ana’s comment, instead she simply waits for ana to say who she was actually out with. her lack of concern proves justified when ana lets out a laugh, and her patience rewarded with an honest answer.
there’s a part of logan that sympathizes with ana’s plight — she’s been on her share of bad dates — but something about ana’s tone doesn’t resonate. maybe that’s because for as long as logan’s known her, she’s considered ana to be kind of a prude (though she imagines ana would insist, much like her movie double, that she’s just highly selective), but either way, her heart doesn’t seem to be in it. logan’s eyes narrow slightly; not out of suspicion, just in observation. “sure, the men suck,” logan shrugs. “but has the sex at least made one or two of the dates worth your time?”
Birdie had already exhausted every possible avenue, stopped every crew member, only to be met with the same answer: "Ask Logan."
They didn't want to ask Logan. They didn't want to see Logan. They'd much prefer if they didn't have to be in the same building at all.
Something sour rose up in the back of their throat, and they forced themself to stop and take a few deep, calming breaths. They rolled their shoulders as if it would physically shake the antipathy creeping up the back of their neck.
When they finally managed to find her, they stopped again and schooled their features into neutrality.
"Hey," they urged, with a light squeeze to Logan's elbow. It was familiar, friendly in a way the two of them weren't. But Birdie just needed to get through this show without issue. Needed it desperately.
"We're missing a wedge and no one seems to know where it is. Any ideas?"
when logan feels a hand at her elbow, the last person she’s expecting to see at the other end of the hand is birdie. logan turns, not returning the greeting but also not telling them to fuck off, and her expression is expectant. “any ideas?” she repeats, disdain seeping into her words. “no. it’s not my job to keep track of your shit.”
it might not be her job to keep track of their shit, but it is her job to make sure the night runs smoothly. and fortunately for birdie, logan cares about her job more than she hates them. so despite her words suggesting otherwise, logan isn’t completely ignoring birdie’s request. she heads to the supply closet — managing to suppress her annoyance when she hears birdie’s footsteps behind her — and grabs an extra wedge. “here,” she says, tossing it to them. “don’t lose this one. we’ll charge you for it if we don’t get it back at the end of the night.”
A ghost of a smirk twitches at the corner of their mouth, and Marlowe's eyes drop down to the offered shot. They take it without much reluctance, making a mental toast to a successful tour run. "Noted," they reply, right as they toss it back. The glass makes a clink against the bar when it's placed back down.
"Most personalities I deal with are malleable, and I'm the face of the business end of it." Even if at some points, Marlowe might give stern reminders from time to time. That's more of a preventative than anything, when likely there isn't much to worry about. What they wonder is if Logan caught the stray there.
Marlowe shrugs and regards her with an amused grin. "You can't count, so our perfect score won't be skewed by your bias. But, I appreciate you holding their final tour date here."
“right,” logan scoffs. yeah, marlowe is easy enough to deal with, but do they seriously expect them to believe a band with noa, julien, and andie never had any diva moments? she’s not a fucking idiot.
“don’t worry about it,” logan dismisses their gratitude with a wave of her hand, “i would’ve been pissed if you tried to take them anywhere else.” not that there’s another venue in town for them to go to, but the sentiment remains.
“how was tour, anyway?” as loathe as she is to admit it, logan’s invested in 2nd heaven, secretly rooting for their success no matter the status of her and noa’s relationship. her life would be so much easier if they sucked. not that she’s going to admit that, content to pretend like she’s asking purely for curiosity’s sake.
logan raises the handle and her eyebrows, as she waits for a response, silently asking marlowe if they want another shot.

ana can’t offer much assistance. her knowledge behind the bar only goes as far as pouring beer from the tap, water from the fountain, and mixing a few basic drinks. and yet, you won't hear her complaining since she’s able to sneak a few for herself in the process. logan’s touch is unexpected when it reaches her back. nonetheless, ana follows its implied direction. she stops swaying to the music long enough to allow logan the space she needs before reaching across the counter again for empty cups. by the second song, everyone is settled in. the band has the audience’s full attention and the bar line's died down. ana is placing the dirty dishes in the bar sink when logan is (almost?) passing her a redbull. “a 2nd heaven groupie? are you drunk already?” the music is great, she’ll proudly admit it. but, the last thing she’s ever felt is the desire to follow around the band members in order to sleep with them.
“oh, come on,” ana rolls her eyes, deciphering the real question that’s written between the lines, “noa and my’s good is about the same as his and your’s bad… without the sex, obviously— i’ll take that, thank you—” she does a terrible job hiding her smile as she snatches the can from logan’s hand. “you don't have to worry about me. i had a date last night.”
her question wasn’t even about noa. or, it wasn’t entirely about noa, as her and noa aren't together. what, or who, he doesn’t isn’t her problem. what it was actually about is her breakup induced desire to punish anyone with personal affection for any member of 2nd heaven. (and it certainly doesn’t hurt that despite ana being obviously gorgeous, logan isn’t stupid enough to think noa would be interested in her.) still, she doesn’t argue, accepting ana’s denial and letting her swipe the can from her grasp.
logan’s eyebrows raise with ana’s news. “did you?” she asks with a grin. it’s a pleasant surprise. while logan doesn’t know ana well, she’s developed an unexpected fondness for her. part of that fondness stems from logan assuming ana has set her standards so high because she’s a prude and being endeared by these perceived qualities, but she’ll happily trade that for some juicy gossip. “with who? and was it any good?”

it’s not a surprise to see ana behind the bar between the opener’s set and 2nd heaven. her drink running is a term of her free entry to shows, but it seems like ana’s bar-tending is even more half-assed than usual tonight. not that logan cares; as far as she’s concerned, they can come to the bar if if they wants a drink. but it does make the cramped space even more crowded. one hand drops to ana’s waist to announce her presence behind her, and it slides across the small of her back as she slips past her to grab a redbull.
logan hasn’t seen monty in a second, so she pours a shot into her cup before emptying half the redbull into it. she holds the can out to ana in offering. “wait,” her eyes narrow slightly as she pulls back slightly. “first tell me you’re not a groupie.”

when & where: thirty minutes before doors at fight club
The venue remains empty, the quiet before the perfect storm with the stage lights warming up overhead. Marlowe stands in front of the stage, their hands in their pockets and scanning the setup with a careful eye.
Footsteps behind them have them tossing a quick glance over their shoulder, until their expression falls in the slightest. There's no personal ill feelings toward Logan, but that doesn't negate any lingering worries.
"Should I be keeping an eye out for eggs flying through the air later?"
Not that Marlowe expects an actual attempt at sabotage during the performance, but they sometimes feel like they're playing a game of 'the floor is lava' when it comes to Logan and Noa or Julien or Birdie, where the lava is whatever beef is happening in real time.
logan rounds the corner, heading back to the bar to get vodka for the openers. she assumes the room will be empty, with both bands in their respective green rooms, but of course marlowe’s there, inspecting the stage. after grabbing a handle, she heads their direction. they haven’t actually spoken yet, with logan doing everything in her power to avoid 2nd heaven, but she’s got no issue with marlowe.
egging isn’t really logan’s style, but she shrugs. “yeah, you should.” she holds the vodka out to marlowe as a peace offering. “but i’d bet you have to worry about that at every show. you hardly picked them for their personalities; they probably piss someone off everywhere they go.”
it’s unusual for logan to be in her apartment on a friday night. there aren’t many options for nightlife in colossal, but logan’s managed to make the most of it up until this weekend, where she can’t seem to escape the sound of noa sweet’s voice.
the town is feeling too celebratory about 2nd heaven’s homecoming for her liking. she already had to dedicate her entire week to planning their return, she doesn’t need to hear their entire discography when she’s just trying to get drunk and not think about the show tomorrow. but regardless of what the rest of the town’s up to, logan’s not going to hide in her apartment like a loser. instead, she dialed dan pinkerton’s number and told him to come over — and to pick up chinese on the way.
takeout containers were hardly touched and promptly abandoned on the coffee table. now, logan is on dan’s lap in nothing but her underwear. they don’t get much further before they’re interrupted by a knock at the door. “ignore it,” logan mumbles against his lips, though the visitor can almost definitely hear the record playing through the door. though she fully intends to wait out the visitor, she doesn’t quite have the patience for it. when they knock again, logan lets out a frustrated groan and climbs off dan’s lap. “coming!” she yells, grabbing her tank from where she’d discarded it on the floor and tugging it over her head.
she yanks open the door, and her her expression doesn’t falter when she sees it’s noa standing there. “what?”
perfume lingering on someone else’s pillow; your presence not so easily forgotten, a borrowed leather jacket over a silk slip dress, being sweat-soaked and swaying to the bass in a sea of strangers, a laugh like the sound of a slot machine jackpot; tempting those that hear to test their luck, heat lightning in late summer.

HISTORY.
logan is the only child (that we know of) of alonso "lonnie" valentine, guitarist in a rather famous rock band from the late 60s/early 70s, the kissers. her mom was not in the picture.
lonnie was young when logan was born, and he wasn't ready to give up his rockstar ways, so logan spent her early years on the road. no one involved should've been raising a baby, but they were.
it wasn't until she was almost in high school that the kissers decided to stop touring, which left her in a stable housing situation for the first time ever. immediately, it was clear logan was kind of weird, but in a really cool way. she was more worldly and experienced than every other kid her own age, but also behind in school. she managed to get by, despite struggling a lot in math and sciences, having heard her whole childhood that “the school of life” is what matters most.
she found herself constantly drawn to music, because that’s the only world she’s ever known. she dabbled in multiple instruments, but performing never really called to her. she preferred to be in the audience than on stage. she’d sneak into venues all over la, and was constantly befriending the staff, then once the staff was used to her, the bands. it was only natural she found herself working part time at a venue (as a ticket taker) the second she was old enough for a job.
after graduating high school, logan moved to seattle, drawn to the evolving grunge scene there (nirvana was formed in 1987, the same year). she continued to immerse herself in the music scene in anyway she could; bartending, sound tech, stagehand, production assistant, and eventually, she got the connections needed to become a talent booker. she knew a lot of the local bands, so she could connect with them.
she had a fling with one of the frontmen of a really popular local group. they got a tour, and he told her to quit her job and come with them. she laughed in his face and called off whatever they were doing on the spot. heartbroken and petty, he contacted the owner of the place she worked at and said as long as she was working there, they wouldn’t play there. with the money they brought in, the venue picked the band. this ruined her rep, as all the venues around wanted to be able to book this very popular group. she stuck it out for a few months, expecting it to blow over, but when it became clear it wouldn’t, she got desperate and reached out to monty.
PERSONALITY.
logan is a cool girl. she’s confident, self-possessed, and aloof. and being a beautiful, confident woman means she has an undeniable presence, and she likes that. logan likes attention, and she commands it, but she’s not someone that necessarily seeks the spotlight, preferring to let it come to her, or even to tee up someone else. i think there’s a level of mystery about her, in this case, because she’s charming and willing to talk to people, yet she still maintains a certain distance.
and this is for a number of reasons. she’s independent, almost to a fault. growing up, she spent a lot of time on her own, and had to figure out how to entertain herself, and she managed. she’s carried that through her whole life; logan enjoys her own company, and she’s not scared of doing anything on her own. but also, logan has difficulty with genuine connection. she’s very cynical about people, as i think she saw the worst of them when she was really young. she didn’t have people to rely on, with her father not being suited to raise a child, and all the people around him being more focused on their own lives than on taking care of logan. she’s evasive, defensive, and doesn't trust easily.
a by-product of her self-assurance is that she takes herself very seriously. logan fully intends to create a life she loves to live, and a large part of that is her career. she’s lowkey a workaholic, in that a lot of her life is set up around her job. if she’s not working, she’s often hanging out with musicians, and a lot of her partying is also networking. she cares about her career more than a lot of other things in her life.
despite being a cool girl, logan is not a chill girl. when logan cares, logan really cares. it shows in her passion for music, her ambition, and those few relationships she actually takes to. she’ll be focused and dedicated, and she’s really possessive of people. it’s like a switch flips in her, and she goes from cool and detached to fiery and obsessive.
she’s kind of a daredevil. an adrenaline junkie. she likes thrills in life! she likes fast cars and intense sports! she likes to fight with people and push people’s buttons. i think that while she’s resilient and adaptable, she also… kind of. doesn’t have the best self-preservation instincts, in that she likes to throw herself into situations. it’s just that she can get out of them!
