the fact that straight people so often can only associate queerness to being explicit and to being inherently sexual shows that they still think of being queer as a perversion. i can’t count the number of times i’ve encountered people who think that children should be sheltered from knowing about anything that isn’t straight because they think that means they will have to teach children about queer sex. this sexualization of queer people dehumanizes us, plain and simple. the assumption that queerness has to be sexual is so harmful and i’m done with it being used to keep queer kids in the dark and uneducated about themselves and their identities.
