The Most Incredible Building Ever Designed. Probably.
There are some buildings that defy description; thankfully this isn't one of them and so the following words should save you a long car trip through some admittedly quite beautiful countryside.Ā
The house is initially hidden from view as one approaches the site which, given enough distance, every building is. However the oppressive weight of the architectural aura that the building (cont....)
An Open Letter to the Purveyors of Nonsensical Emoji.
Dear Emoji Overlords.
Letās cut straight to the chase. Itās time. Weāre all adults, we can deal with it: Give us a penis emoji and allow the long suffering aubergine emoji to just be⦠a freakinā aubergine. I literally canāt invite anyone over for an eggplant pasta anymore without appearing to be some crazed sex fiend offering up an Italian themed orgy, (and when I do coincidently organise an italian themed orgy, people now expect eggplant pasta. Itās a nightmare) And donāt get me started on having to use the peach emoji as a substitute for a vagina, I mean honestly, if youāre not going to grow up and put in an actual vagina emoji, at least get some better yonic shaped objects in there. (thats right, google itāāāitās a word)
Also, I know you had the best intentions with the dancing salsa woman in the red dress (cont....)

Cover Letter.
To whom it may concern,
(which assumes someone there is concerned with a resume, which in my experience, is a very optimistic assumption indeed)
So, to those most likely unconcerned, but bored enough with their current task to warrant picking up a resume that landed on their desk yet again, despite the fact they told the receptionist five times last week not to leave them on their deskāāāI would very much like to work for you.
āWhyāĀ you (probably didn't) ask?
Well, first and foremost because I need money in order to pay rent, buy food, and if Iām lucky, have enough left over to occasionally buy some more stuff I donāt really need. Having a job seems to be the best way to achieve these basic tenets of human survival, short of joining some kind of moneyless communeāāābut theyāre not too big into the ābuying stuff you donāt really needāĀ thing.
So, a job it is. (cont....)
UnitƩ d'Habitation iPhone5 background for anyone who wants it. (More procrastination at its best)
Started doing something else entirely, and ended up with this. Gotta love a good procrastination induced tangent.Ā
Well, itās taken a white - but our side tables are finally finished! Iām still blown away by the fact they came out almost exactly the way we planned (bonus points if you can pick the design change)
These are just some quick iPhone photos, but the plan is to take some better shots soon.Ā
Playing around with a bit of animation. For some reason this is strangely satisfying to watch...

New Project!
Weāve finally got ourselves some commission work, and so the days of haphazardly knocking up our own stuff could, at least temporarily, be coming to an end.
The brief was for a pool-side table, to replace on old rusting one. āSomewhere to put a book and a gin and tonicā The dimensions of the previous table and āsomething minimalā where the only other requests.
The design weāve come up with utilises our beloved 12mm steel rod, as well as combining a timber top.
Given the table will spend most of its time outside weāve added holes to (hopefully) drain off any pooling water that could eventually warp the timber. All up, itās a relatively straight forward design, however experience has proven that the more āsimpleā the design the less simple it is to construct for some reasonā¦
New Project over at Droop Street. More posts to come. Ā (see, I still blog! kinda...)Ā
Some quick shots of the desk lamp almost finished!
Will do a proper post showing working images soon⦠also, better photos coming soon.
Been a while...
I finally got around to cleaning up my RSS subscriptions the other day, most of which were added to Google Reader years ago and at some point in the last five years had silently sputtered out without anyone really noticing.
Which got me thinking. I follow something in the order of 300 blog feeds of varying description, however once that myriad of blogs get viewed through a single reader, a few things get lost. For a start, I feel that rather than āvisitā blogs, I now have them essentially sent to me, itās as if the web 1.0 terminology āsurfing the webā has been replaced by an activity more akin to āsitting in the shallows while the waves wash over youā.
The adage ācontent is kingā gets bandied around a lot, and given that RSS readers have essentially stripped blogs down to just their content, that saying certainly has some weight, yet despite this, various blogging platforms still offer a variety of themes, when in reality most people will see that carefully chosen theme once before hitting āfollowā or āaddā.
Thing is, thereās a lot of blogs that look utterly fantastic at their own URL, but then lose something once their content is processed, stripped down, and shoe-horned into a readers own layout. A blog like Ā Iām Google, a gradually changing stream of images relating back to each other, is a good example of something that doesnāt work through a reader, while image blogs like convoy seem to work better with multiple images side by side on the screen at once, rather that with a single vertical column. That visual saturation is the entire point of blogs like that and is probably the reason the fastidiously curated images on Convoy are crammed into a single post, 120 or so at a time, rather than an unconnected stream of 120 separate posts.
Ā The other downside of all that information being visually laundered on its way to my neat little reader feed is that I barely notice when one or two go missing, or stop showing up. It was only after ācleaning upā my feed that I realised a lot of friends blogs have ground to a halt sometime over the last year.
One theory for this is that āInstagram killed the bloggerā, Interestingly, āInstagramā just overtook āblogā on google trends. Mind you, according to that chart, āblogā has been in decline since June 2009, which to be fair probably just suggests that by 2009 most people didnāt need to Google it any more. Meanwhile, āPizzaā doesnāt look like itās falling out of favour anytime soon, if you were wondering.
This blog is no different. I think Iāve managed 4 or 5 posts over the last year, when by comparison, Iāve clocked up something like 300 instagram posts. So I think Iām going to try and give it a bit more attention, but Iām not promising anything.
Experimenting with some folded metal options. Donāt like this design much, but the render came up quite nice, so thought Iād throw it in here.
