Chao 2016
2016. ugh, good riddance!! but no seriously, I'm soooo happy itâs over. 2016, for me at least, was a rough year. it was brought in on a bad note and I looked forward to it SO MUCH because my 25th birthday was coming up.
so let me tell you about how i brought in 2016 on one of the worst notes possible......
I had started working for a call center spring of 2015 and made some new friends. one guy in particular, (weâll just call him John), reminded me of my brother sooo much that I took an immediate liking to him. we leaned on each other a lot through the 8 weeks of training. and then a couple weeks after we graduated from training I took an opportunity and transferred to a different department which was allllll the way on the other side of the building. we didn't get to see each other much during our shifts and before long he won a shift bid and moved to first shift. we occasionally went on lunch dates but most of our relationship (friendship) developed via texting and calling.
since we were in the same training class I knew who his immediate supervisor was and most of the people in our group didn't like her so it was really easy to drag her. not to mention he was gifted in the ability to be caddy and knew JUST how to push her buttons... with that being said its no surprise that they were constantly at odds with each other. we graduated in May and by September he was sure she was doing everything in her power to get him fired. I mean the littlest of things like writing him up for being too loud while his neighbors were on calls. by October he had a final warning and by then he was determined that he was going to be fired and just didn't care what happened anymore. I mean, he basically spoke it into existence and by the end of November he was terminated. so there goes that.
well December arrived and we were still in contact so he told me he wanted to get some Christmas shopping done. of course I was totally down for it. so I went and picked him up and there were a couple places he wanted to go so we set off. we get to one place and he just had one thing he wanted to get from there and assured me that it would literally take a few minutes so I could wait in the car. ok, fine with me cuz Lord knows I'm nothing on holiday shopping traffic. so he comes back out and gets in and says heâs ready to go. as I'm pulling out of the parking lot, whoop whoop! cherries and berries... I'm like wtf? I didn't do anything. I pull over, roll my window down, cop comes to my window and asks me to turn the car off and for both of us to step out. now I'm really confused, clearly he has us mixed up with someone else. he reaches in the car and takes the bag out and asks John for the receipt. then the cop asks John if he paid for everything in the bag and he responds, âNoâ..... the cop asks us to walk back into the store and takes us to separate rooms. About 15 minutes go by and the cop and a store employee come back into the room and ask to see my phone and the text messages between me and John. then they ask me if I knew he came into the store with the intention to steal. ummmmm, to the best of my knowledge, of course not! they proceed to tell me that John had told them that he was unemployed (which of course I knew) and that because of that fact how did I expect him to go into a store and be able to purchase anything. now I'm clearly not his mother but I just assumed since it was his idea to go Christmas shopping that he had some money...fast forward.. we both get arrested for shoplifting. my best friend bails me out and they set a court date for the second week in January. so I made it through Christmas and New Yearâs with this feeling of impending doom. so, yeah, that's how I brought my 2016 in.
what started out as a January court date was postponed to February, the day before my 25th birthday. then I found out that John had a warrant for other legal issues and his court date wouldn't be until July. I was told I could either wait and we try to get our court dates as close together as possible or to proceed on my own. I was not about to wait until July so I chose to move forward on my own. so as the court date approached it was postponed to March...and then the march date was postponed to April. the court date comes and goes and I'm charged with a misdemeanor and 1 year probation. totally unfair and what started out as just hanging out and doing a favor for a â friendâ turned into being taken advantage of and bearing the consequences of someoneâs wrong actions.
due to all the stress the case was causing my performance and attendance was suffering and I lost my job as well. so not even 6 months into 2016 and I've lost my job and now my health is declining. applying for jobs and getting interviews was the easy part. the hard part was having to disclose either my recent conviction and/or my health condition/issues. if it wasnât one reason or the other I was declined for both. in the midst of this unfortunate and unwanted drama, I strengthened my friendship with this amazing woman and my best friend. what I thought would be an unlikely friendship blossomed into something beautiful. she is such a warm, welcoming, bubbly person and spreads sunshine and happiness wherever she's been. she is a breath of fresh air. itâs so hard to make and keep friends as you get older because most people already have a âcrewâ and are so unlikely to let anyone else in. she was constantly checking up on me, being an inspiration, or just being there for me. aside from her, my best friend was here through all my drama and even though he wasn't always the most practical of people I give him kudos for being present and at least trying to say/do what he could.
while my 2016 was less than ideal for just about ANYBODY career and health wise, my village thrived and blossomed. and I owe them everything for being able to push through and remain positive for a better 2017. so here goes nothing. letâs get it!
