This is a fanblog for the 2005-2010 TV Show Numb3rs. As I am still inching through the show (very, very slowly —unfortunately I’m a slow show watcher), I have incomplete knowledge so please be gracious with me.
Features here will be reblogs (primarily), gif sets (<- or at least I’m hoping I’ll get the hang of them), and just regular fan stuff!
Thank you for reading this far!!
PS: charry is a portmanteau of Charlie x Larry :))
PPS: you can also call me “Cherry”
tags
always under construction
characters will be tagged #[firstname lastname]
+ in the case of characters with well known nicknames (i.e: charlie, millie) their first name has been replaced with their nickname
season and episode are denominated: [season] x [episode]
flattened all relationships to [character] x [character] to make it easier for me to tag
relationship tags will be by alphabetical order
ex: #larry x megan
ship names (which, tbf, is only one rn):
#charry, charlie x larry
personal chatter: #cherrychatters
fic ideas and essay ideas are tagged: #[fic idea] and #[essay idea] respectively
note: fic ideas are open for anyone to use! If you are inspired to write a fic from one of my ideas, please tag me —I would be delighted to read it! however. I would prefer to keep essay ideas to myself so I would prefer to be asked before using them!

Power (04 x 12) — another look into Don’s apartment! I’ll say… I don’t like how the LAPD insider is kind of proven right by the end of the episode? She states that there must be something already wrong w/a cop that’d make them turn to rape. “A rape-o and a bad cop are two different people.” (Paraphrased.) And by the episode we find out that the perp had a history of abusing sex workers. It’s a minor issue tho.
More look into Megan’s background is always fun. Which brings me to the Charmita of the whole episode. Idk, I don’t feel like Charlie would’ve accepted Amita working w/Larry the way he did. Not that he wouldn’t be happy or recognize it as the best choice —just that the way he communicated himself feels a little out of character. I mean we’re talking about the man who blew a fuse over the same situation two seasons ago; the man who called Larry preparing for space a “delusion” —Charlie wouldn’t’ve taken it as calmly as he did.
The writers keep flipping on whether or not Amita wants to move in with Charlie. Last time they considered it, it seemed like Amita was on board by the end of the episode. But at the beginning of this episode, Amita seems uncomfortable with Charlie treating her temporary move in as a trial run for down the line. Did the writer’s forget they already covered this or…?
What if David had an older sister who rode a motorcycle cycle and wore leather and had a piercing stare and made Amita question everything about her relationship with Charlie.
Just. Y’know. Food for thought. For your mind. To chew on.
If you’ll allow me, I think Megan and Larry would have a female-led relationship. Not even on purpose or anything; it’s just how their relationship works best for the both of ‘em.

Find out who his management agency is, send a letter to him C / O the agency’s address, and enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope if you want him to reply.
I WAS RIGHT don explicitly says he's five years older than charlie, NOT EIGHT. why does the wiki have them 8 years apart. is this a plot hole where contradictory info is presented later in the series.
meanwhile the whole thing with both of them liking val in high school is hawkwarrrrrd, i am not into it
I think I wanna write a cute fic of David and Amita going to a con together…. Maybe, like RetroCon or smth.
I don’t think David plays any modern video games, but I do think he’s played the “retro” ones (especially the arcade game types —he could also bond with Larry over that) and Amita probably played a couple older games (though her taste lean more modern now).

I need a numb3rs renaissance mostly for new fanfic. I’ve been reading on fanfic.net and so I’m eating you know and a lot of it is really good. However. Ao3 is easier to sort and it has spoiled me. And there are the ISSUES and TROUBLES that come any time you read something a little older. Like I can grit my teeth and move forward, the way I do when I read a book or watch an older movie. And it’s not like new stuff is perfect and untouched by the same ISSUES and TROUBLES. But….you know. But also I just want to share my love with people and the fandom is unfortunately pretty dead right now.
A NUMB3RS renaissance would be amazing! I wish I could write more fics besides the one I managed to squeeze out, unfortunately, I'm still losing the fight against mental illness. Maybe some day....
As for AO3, yes, AO3 is a MASSIVE improvement over fanfiction.net. I respect the hell out of ff.net for being a stepping stone/launching point for so many of us, but it just can't compare. There's actually a NUMB3RS fanfic on there I've been looking for but can't find. Once again, maybe some day....
You never know, Anon! Maybe in 10 years someone will dig up all our contributions to the NUMB3RS fandom, as we've been doing for those that came before us! I bet they'll be very appreciative.
What I thought of when Charlie kept pressuring Amita to move in w/him (and Alan). Also, has Amita’s family come round on Charlie or…? Cuz just a couple episodes ago Amita was telling Charlie not to see her dad so…? Can I get an update on that?
Hey same anon who keeps pestering you about numb3rs lol. Another thing I’m noticing in fic (particularly the older stuff) is a lot of Amita hate. I’ve watched numb3rs on and off since I was a kid but this is my first concentrated, chronological viewing. I’ve always liked Amita, never had any issues with her or her relationship with Charlie. But man there’s a lot of hate out there that’s seems out of nowhere, unless something comes up later in the show that I haven’t gotten to yet. Now of course a lot of this can be attributed to the usual sexism, racism, her “getting in the way” of ships, and classic “she’s not good enough for my angel boy” stuff. And I’m not saying their relationship has to be everyone’s cup of tea. I can see where some people would be unhappy- there have been some bumps. People might be uncomfortable with their original student/teacher relationship, even if they waited until that dynamic changed before progressing into romance. People might ignore Amita saying she didn’t stay at CalSci for Charlie and think she’s giving up things for him. If I remember correctly she might at some point break up with him to explore other romances? Maybe some people just think they lack chemistry and find the whole thing lackluster (sometimes I agree, other times I don’t. I don’t currently have a firm feeling on the ship itself. I’m not passionate about it, I’m not opposed to it). But those first two points seem to me like things that would make you think negatively of Charlie, not Amita. I don’t know, maybe as I get through more of my rewatch my view will change. But I enjoy her character. Basically, what are your thoughts on Amita and separately on her and Charlie’s romance? Am I forgetting something that happens down the line that will sour my feelings towards either?
I recognize that discussions as to why someone may care for or not care for a character or ship is EXTREMELY upsetting for members of fandom. In fact, I'm 99% sure a former member of the Crunching Cr3w blocked me over it. Thus, I will be putting this conversation under the cut so it's easier for people to avoid.
TW: DISCUSSIONS OF CHARACTER AND SHIP POPULARITY UNDER THE CUT
It's interesting that I have to have to do a cut here because… you've kinda said it all. The reason so many people hated (and maybe still hate? I don't see it anymore because I feel like the Numb3rs fandom is too dead for it) Amita is due to misogyny and racism. Full stop. There's literally no other reason to hate her. Feeling indifferent to her? Maybe that could be due to bad writing. Hate? Nah, that's an audience problem.
And I know this because that was me. The Sen of 13-14 years ago was PLAGUED by internal misogyny. I was a poster child for "not being like other girls." I exclusively wore jeans and t-shirts and boots, I never wore pink (only black!) or jewelry, and I thought watching anime and listening to Vocaloid made me intellectually superior to my peers. Teen!Sen was the fucking worst. I'm so glad I'm not her anymore LOL
The Sen of 13-14 years ago was also obsessed with Charlie even more so than the Sen of today. She even made an entire OC to ship with him. That's right, Sen's first OC x Canon was for Numb3rs! I don't remember much about the OC (thank god) but my obsession caused me to turn my ire onto Amita. Which sucks, because Amita did nothing wrong! The only silver lining here is that I didn't have access to social media or fandoms to spew my bullshit into the void.
Fast forward to the past year when I'm having my Numb3rssance. In the 13 years between then and now, I've changed a lot. I've realized that I am, in fact, like other girls, and other girls are swag; skirts are fun to twirl in and colors are pretty; and classic Gaga fucks actually. I've also learned about systemic racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, imperialism, capitalism, white supremacy, and Christian nationalism. I've deconstructed my religion, and experimented with new spiritual beliefs, and ultimately adapted an ideology of "as long as it's not hurting anyone, I don't care." I've grown A LOT, and I'm very proud of myself for that. I'm also still growing! As anyone has seen from my Pitt posting, I'm actively breaking down what lingering constructs of purity culture that are still internalized in real time. It's all been so crazy in a positive way.
So when I started this rewatch, I knew I had to open my mind and heart to Amita, because I was so unfair to her before. She's a woman of color in a main role, so I wanted to be in her corner. It was the least I could do. And you know what? I didn't hate her! I don't hate her! I will never hate her again! Because it was never about her character, it was about my racist and misogynistic bullshit.
Does that mean I now think she's a well-written character? Not particularly. I believe whole-heartedly that Heuton, Falacci, and all the other writers failed her miserably. She spends 99% of her time as a plot device to move the A-story and/or Charlie's arcs forward, while almost never getting one herself* (ASTERISK HERE: I haven't rewatched season 6 in over a decade, there's probably something in there I missed. That being said, the fact that it took 6 seasons to give her an arc is embarrassing.) Even when she does get an episode focused on her, it doesn't carry over to her character after the episode ends. We got a lot of great scenes with Amita discussing her struggles over being an immigrant and possibly reconnecting with her heritage in "Harvest," but those themes are never brought up again; she goes through a pretty traumatic event in "Primacy," but she's just over it immediately, no lasting effects of her being cyber-stalked and her life in danger; even her transition from student to teacher is brought up in a single line of dialogue and never touched on again! We're also told Amita likes puzzles, possibly puns, and then in season 4 (OF 6!!!! WHY DID IT TAKE THIS LONG???) we finally discover she has a hobby, video games. Which again, is only brought up when it's relevant to the plot.
"Ah, but, Sen! What about Amita's Parents Plotline?" Great point, that is something that's written for Amita, and I like that it gives her some background! But I do have a hard time giving the writers too much credit for it, because the payoff for that plotline was basically "will Amita's parents approve of her marrying Charlie," which, though interesting, does eventually just make the arc about Charlie.
I feel much the same with Amita as I do with David, and we discussed about David here, so please allow me to paraphrase/steal from myself: Let's play a game of "How I Would Fix Amita Ramanujan"!
As before, POC in the writers room is a must. No white person is going to be able to write the experience of an Indian immigrant better than an Indian.
A little bit more about Amita's past. They began this with "Harvest," so let's expand upon it. Let's meet Amita's grandmother, maybe! I bet watching Amita reconnect with her family's history and culture, but also seeing the embodiment of that history interact with her new family as well, would be super enriching for her character, and healing for herself.
A few extra personality traits would also be a help. Let's have a woman who's got some weird quirks and tendencies! And maybe up the sass a little. I feel like so many of her scenes consist of her looking at Charlie or Larry with concerned eyes and nothing else.
Much like my suggestions with David, I think it would be helpful if Amita had a consistent relationship with someone outside of Charlie/CalSci. Charlie has Don, Larry has Megan, maybe we give Amita a FBI bestie. I recommended Amita being David's buddy, so he's a great choice, but Colby could also be fun (or make them a trio?), or even Nikki or Liz for added women supporting women energy.
I made a gay suggestion for David as a half joke but honestly? Queerness couldn't make the situation worse for either character.
As for charmita… well, ships ultimately come down to personal preferences (which I want to remind everyone is not a reflection of moral values; no one is better or worse for shipping or not shipping something. Fandoms need to leave purity culture behind). And charmita just doesn't do it for me. I'm so so glad others were rooting for it and enjoy it so much! It definitely has a lot of potential, and a lot of screentime to enjoy!
I hope this answers everything you were asking, Anon. If not, let me know. And please feel free to continue visiting my inbox as much as you like! Maybe even give yourself a codename if you're up to it~ <3

won’t put this in colby’s tags or anything, but I don’t like his partnership w/ David all that much. I think they get along and everything but I genuinely feel like Colby gave the writers the perfect way to avoid using David’s skills :(
I'm back on my Numb3rs bullshit and as someone who was a fan from basically Day 1, I just want to say to anyone who wrote Amita bashing fics back in the day, I hope you never know peace. May your pillows be warm and your socks always slip down inside your shoes. May your cat let everyone pet them but you and may you find legos in all of your slippers. May these agonies be your penance for your sins toward my Beautiful Math Princess. Amen.
