HOW TO MAKE REALISTIC & STYLIZED RP MAPS.
hello everyone! i am writing to you all today to talk about one of my favorite aspects of rping: maps and locations! i think that these are one of the greatest assets that any rp can have, as it fleshes out the world in a spatial and aesthetic way that is important for creating overall atmosphere that promotes muse. one of the things i see often in rps is perhaps a locations page, but one that only lists specific locations and geographic area (that means how the town actually looks and is travelled through on a map) in a vague way.
as someone who has adminned many rps before, i have had players tell me before that the locations page and the map accompanying it was a page they frequented because they needed to see how realistic it would be for their character to get from one location to another in a specific amount of time with transportation restraints (bike, public transport, etc) for plot reasons. being able to give players that deeper level of detail for this can be extremely important for world building, even in groups with more basic plots.
however, i understand not every admin is familiar with making a map or wants to have to take up the time consuming task of making one from scratch, especially one that might match the aesthetics of your group. fortunately, i have an easy way to do this! click the read more to learn how to create a map as nice as the example one here.
