Alia Shawkat is a bisexual Iraqi-Irish mixed race actor best known for her role as Maeby Fünke on satirical comedy Arrested Development, best friend character Pash Amini in Whip It!, and antiheroic protagonist Dory Sief in black comedy Search Party. Her career began with a starring role as Jewish preteen Hannah Rayburn in State of Grace, a sitcom set in the 1960s on then-FOX Family Channel, which was quite frankly a life-defining media experience for this blogging lesbian. Alia is a frequent commentator on the politics of female sexuality and representations of sex in media, as well as queer causes and feminist issues.
