if capitalism didn’t exist what would your dream job be. btw if you say something like ‘engineer’ i’ll kill you
What’s… what’s wrong with engineer. Do you honestly think people will stop needing bridges. or water filtration plants. or electricity. or assistive devices. or. or. or. post-capitalism OP.
Hundreds Killed as Building Collapses in Leftist Commune
LITERALLY. Or it goes up in flames from an overloaded electrical system and no fire exits.
I DO dream of labour. There is worthwhile and meaningful work in the world, and I want to do it!
In a post-capitalism world there will still be rivers to cross, sick people to nurse, crops to be harvested, computers to program, and buildings to maintain. Some of the work will be dull and unfulfilling and necessary!
But you’d better HOPE we get enough engineers and building inspectors and fire safety marshals and janitors and maintenance workers and bricklayers and auto mechanics and electricians. Otherwise you’d better be ready to drastically reduce your standard of living.
People confuse “non-capitalist” (ie organized for motives other than the acquisition of profit within a model where those who accumulate capital are necessary for large enterprises) with “magically somehow work will be unneeded” and also apparently get confused about how actually right now one of the problems we have is that lots of people who’d LIKE to be engineers and indeed would be GOOD engineers have no opportunity to do so because of the structures of power and opportunities that underlie our current system.
Guys, the jobs that are now considered “good” will still be attractive. Because they’re not just attractive for money. I’m a programmer. I’d like to be a programmer. Give me the dull coding jobs. It’s fine. That’s what I like doing.
I can imagine there are people who love stocking shelves. There are days when I’d love doing that, too.
I can imagine there will still be secretaries who love organizing others as their purpose in life. So they, think doctors, have the time to focus on their thing, which is helping people get/stay healthy.
And I can imagine someone wanting to be that doctor, willingly learn for years about how humans work, and then cope with people’s health, trying to improve it.
“But nobody would want to…” Yes they do. People love danger, dirt, repetitive tasks, responsibility, stress, talking to people all day, hiding away in a dark basement all day, working with animals (with all implications), working at a computer all day, …
For everything that needs doing, you’ll find someone who loves doing it. It’s more about finding enough people for the things that are needed, where they’re needed, when they’re needed.
My mother is a bureaucrat and a farmer and living her dream life tending to her garden in her free time just as much as when she’s at work doing what she herself drscribed as “the most dry, administrative, paperworky position you can find” and she said this to me with such excitement and joy. For every job you can imagine, it’s somebody’s dream job.
Getting dumped really puts children's cartoon villains into perspective. Like dude you're SO right, love and caring ARE disgusting and we SHOULD cast a spell to drain all human emotion into your amulet.
Friend breakups are how you get lines like "Your friends? You think your friends are coming to save you? Don't make me laugh."
“So... We got the exploding diarrhea. Here's my advice for anyone who doesn't have it yet:
It's going to take a minute for the government to pin down where this is coming from, and then issue a recall, because the FDA has been gutted. But, I can tell you, without a shadow of a doubt : this is coming from Taylor Farms produce, and you will see them recalled.
You'll want to avoid all Taylor Farms produce in the grocery store. They supply McDonalds, KFC, Pizza Hut, about any fast food place you can think of.
Raspberries, watermelons, cilantro, and the veggies you're hearing about are not causing this many people to get sick. It's the shredded lettuce, specifically, that's the problem. But, you'll want to stay away from every type of produce this company puts out, because one strand of shredded lettuce is all it takes to contaminate bushels.
Taylor Farms is the source. Taco Bell proactively pulled their produce from their restaurants. You're going to see other fast food places doing this, and probably will see that before the government names a source. The FDA knows this, but they can't come out and tell us all until there's proof, which takes resources and research, which takes manpower, but the FDA has been cut by about 20-30%
During the Biden term, onions at McDonald's had ecoli. We knew this because DNA testing was done quickly and they were able to narrow it down to one place that caused the outbreak. And, it was traced back to Taylor Farms. This isn't going to be solved as quickly though.
When you get this, make a virtual appointment to your PCP - a "same day sick" appointment. Tell them someone in your family just tested for this and was positive and was prescribed Bactrim. If you go in person, they're probably going to make you poop in a cup and wait until results come back to prescribe.
You'll know when you get this. Trust me on all of this.
You'll want to stay hydrated because this parasite damages the lining of the small intestine. Your small intestine, in turn, secretes more water into the gut, and less nutrients and liquid are able to remain in the body. So no matter how much you shit, you're going to want to drink. A day of this leads to dehydration if you don't increase your fluid intake, and a few days will land you in the hospital.
If you have headaches, weakness, muscle cramps, dizziness, or an increase heart rate - hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Go to the ER for fluids if you can't drink enough.
Thank you for coming to my Ted talk. Brought to you by America's 250 birthday celebrations, workforce reduction in the FDA and CDC, and viewers like you.
Please feel free to share this.
And, MAGA - don't blow up the comment section. I argued with y'all on COVID bc I was afraid y'all would die, but I really don't care if you get explosive diarrhea.
And no, ivermectin will not help this at all.”

There is no amount of money, oil, or gold that is worth more than having bees, trees, and clean water.
sooo annoying that my parents didn't provide emotional support growing up now it's a whole fucking thing
how it all feels lately
what are you wearing rn and is it representative of your style
big problem on here is a lot of people seem to think just being transgender makes you a sensible political theorist
being transgender doesn't even make you a sensible gender theorist
You can be trans and be an engineer for NASA. You can also be trans and be dumb as rocks.
I speak from experience because I'm trans and I'm dumb as rocks.

What if we win?
What if the children go to schools unafraid of tear gas and bullets?
What if the birds come back, and the bees are healed, and every species moves from endangered, to threatened, to thriving?
What if the rainforest ADVANCES?
What if every parking lot had solar panels? What if every structure had solar panels? What if we built climbing gyms and terraced gardens in the skeletons of old coal power plants?
What if you baked your neighbor bread, and they shared their home-grown blackberries?
What if every person who needed a home, had one? What if every person who needed healing was healed?
What if every body was treasured for what it was, not what it should be?
What if every trans child's parents attended their graduation, their wedding, their new-name-day?
What if every warehouse became a closed-circle repair station? Goods flowing out, and back, and out again? What if landfills started to SHRINK?
What if the water and air were clean? What if there was enough public transit that the cars dwindled, leaving the streets safe for kids on bikes, evening deer, midnight cats and foxes?
What if we win?
How would you win?
And we've won a lot already, mind you.
The condors are back. The whales are saved. The sea turtles are no longer endangered. The cranes are back. The bees are recovering. The air in LA and Tokyo and London is clean again. The aquifers in the LA Basin are refilling.
Children are kinder than previous generations. Parents are stopping the abuse cycle. Being trans and queer is more acceptable than ever on a ground level.
It's hard to see if you're young, if you don't know how to step back from social media and the news. But remember--bad news sells, and the algorithm knows despair keeps you scrolling. It's a skewed lens.
We are fighting and we are winning against this adminstration's bullying. We are coming together against the bullies and they are running away scared because they don't understand that we will do that.
People are working hard every day to find ways to make sure fewer animals get hit by cars and planes and rockets.
Maker spaces are more common than ever. Solar and wind are more common than ever. Coal plants are shutting down every day.
Unprecedented numbers of acres are being bought back or given back to their rightful stewards, and the world heals because of it. People are working hard every day to learn how to help a forest recover faster.
We are not at zero. We are at decades of effort to heal the world. We've come SO far.
In 1982 there were only 22 California Condors left in the world. In 1992, when the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), with its public and private partners, began reintroducing captive-bred condors to the wild. In 2001 the first wild nesting occurred in Grand Canyon National Park since re-introduction. In 2002 there were only 8 pairs of wild nesting birds population-wide. In 2008, for the first time since the program began, more California condors were flying free in the wild than in captivity. Today there are nearly 500 – more than half of them flying free in Arizona, Utah, California, and Baja Mexico.
When I was born, there were no condors in the wild. I'm 37 now, and there are over 250 condors flying free.
When my mom was born in 1955, there were days when she wasn't allowed to go outside to play, because of the air pollution. When I was born, that never happened anymore.
When I was born, humpback whales were critically endangered, and people thought they were going to go extinct. Today, they've recovered to exceed their recorded numbers. Other whales too!
We fixed it.
We CAN fix it and we ARE fixing it and we DID fix it.
Since 1990 extreme poverty has decreased worldwide by over HALF.
This is not the narrative media sells us. We have access to more information about suffering now than we used to, but things are getting BETTER overall. Yeah some people are trying to undo this, but we have made SO MUCH PROGRESS. Don't give up.

I do not agree with veganism as a moral standard. If it is your personal moral stance, that is fine. If you think humans eating meat is inherently immoral, I don’t want to deal with you, you’re hopeless. Vegan ideology behaves more like a sect of evangelical Christianity than a dietary choice.
Veganism is better for the environment, but claiming that it's a morally superior choice ignores cultural and economic factors that make people eat animal products.
It is not inherently better for the environment. That is the thing. When you begin trying to explain that local, sustainably sourced animal protein is better for the environment than imported plant proteins that are farmed 3,500 miles away using slave labor, they start tuning you out. Down is better for the environment than polyester stuffing, leather is better for the environment than pleather. We should work on making animal agricultural practices more sustainable instead of trying to shame everyone into eating plant products that are also farmed unethically and unsustainably.
Veganism - vegetarianism, even - is only viable for
Wealthy people
People who live in a very small part of the world that produces enough protein-based plants year round to sustain the locals.
For everyone else, it's a diet based on colonialism and imports. The ancient nordic people were not omnivores because they disdained plants as real food; they were omnivores because THERE ARE NO EDIBLE PLANTS IN WINTER.
Repeat for desert regions that have several months of "it's too hot and dry for plants to feed people and still survive themselves" and rocky coastline areas with "if you don't eat fish & eggs, you won't get any protein because there aren't enough seeds or nuts and you can't grow things that produce them."
We do live in a society where most people can afford to be vegetarian. We have plenty of imported plants, including protein-heavy plants. But locavore beats the hell out of herbivore for sustainability and ethical environmentalism.
