how are some of you surprised that Guillermo “made a movie about incestious goth siblings and a movie about a woman fucking a fishman” del Toro made elizabeth fall in love at first sight with the creature.

So, I don't know why so many people are saying the opposite on internet...
But the connection between Elizabeth and the Creature is romantic. The fact that there's no kiss doesn't change that.
Guillermo del Toro literally talks about this scene ☝️ this way :
“That is their wedding,” del Toro explains. “Her dress is meant to evoke the bandages of Elsa Lanchester in the James Whale film. So the Bride is Elizabeth — and their love is impossible.” [...] “There is a beautiful marriage of souls in the film,” del Toro continues. “The creature gets a bride and loses her on the same day. They realize they're both alive and their love dies shortly thereafter. I think it's one of the most poignant ways to address the Bride aspect of the story.”
It's between the Creature and Elizabeth that there is a romantic nuance (more than that she also embodies his Bride).
Especially since Elizabeth feels close to the Creature because she herself feels like a Creature who is not of this world.
Worse, some people say that about Elizabeth & Victor :
Elizabeth and Victor have feelings for each other, but she was already engaged to someone else.
There is no romantic nuance between Elizabeth & Victor. At least not mutual. Victor is in love with Elizabeth. And with a certain perversion since she is literally the perfect replica of his own mother (it's the same actress who plays both roles). Elizabeth, for her part, hates Victor.

One thing about Frankenstein I don't see people talking about is how the Creature doesn't ask for a wife from Victor, he wants a companion. Victor takes it as him wanting a wife but the Creature never said that. He just wanted a friend.
i am the child of a charnel house.
Actually I'm not done thinking about Frankenstein sorry
The fact that Harlander only saw Victor's science, his creation, as a means to preserving himself. His own name.
The fact that Victor had only thought so far as the creation itself, and not what comes after. That the perfection in his mind began and ended with the act of creation.
How men only see (pro)creation through the lens of carrying on their legacy.
And when told no, that the creature will not be Harlander and his legacy? He seeks to ruin it all. And when the creature seems too slow, too difficult, too painful for Victor to deal with? He tries to destroy him.
Because to them, if what is borne from that isn't a perfect vessel to carry on their name, if it does not serve them, then the only answer is violence.
can’t stop thinking about the scene in frankenstein 2025 when the creature asks for a companion with a small hopeful smile on his face. only for victor to immediately become disgusted, immediately jumping to the concept of them “procreating” and breeding more monsters. and it cuts back to the creature with such a sad confused expression it absolutely broke my heart. he genuinely just wanted a friend and it almost seemed like he didn’t even know what victor was implying
Elizabeth in GDT's Frankenstein being a lover of insects. Strange creatures others look upon in disgust and fear, she holds gently. Studies them, loves them, is fascinated by them. Hello? Can anybody hear me?

Frankenstein (2025) dir. Guillermo del Toro + paintings
FRANKENSTEIN (2025) : dir. Guillermo del Toro
Small thing but I love how she recognises his youth here. Like the delight and reinforcement for sharing, the asking once more especially. Small children will often pass you something to watch what you do with it or to show you, as they would hold something as part of experiencing it and think you need to do the same. But asking again lets you know if the child genuinely is gifting something to you or if they intend just to show it
anyway I love this performance
i am not articulate enough to make this sound coherent rn. but the cycle of familial violence portrayed in gdt's frankenstein, set against the backdrop of the cycle of violence in society with the constant references to the wars. the creature finding beauty and connection in nature, feeding the deer until it is shot dead. his speech about the wolves and the sheep, how they don't hate each other, it's just in their nature to kill and be killed.
it seems like these cycles will never end but they can. you can turn your ship around. you can forgive your father. you can walk into the snow and feel the sun upon your face. you can, you can, you can.
The sheep weren’t lucky but we are
"to you i am obscene but to myself i simply am"
the new frankenstein movie peeled my skin back, looked at all my gory, horrible inadequacies and said "i understand you" and now i need to go curl up and die. everyone go watch it right now.

never kill yourself because who knows if guillermo del toro will make a film that stares straight into your soul and says "i see you, i understand you, and the cycle of violence can end" and you will leave a theater sobbing with hope
