I’m currently writing a paper on fan interpretations of Frankenstein in the modern day and I LOVE your art ! I was wondering if you would mind me using your art as an example (with proper credit and citation, of course) and possibly maybe giving me a little info on what aspects of the monster’s design you draw inspiration from the movie versus the book for?

As for the question, I'll still answer it in case it can be of use for anyone.

If I understand the question correctly (not native English speaker sorry ;_;) , the sort of things I want to evoke as a result of inspiration from GDT's Creature design have personally been mainly from a perspective of gender and beauty.

Not only beauty in the physical, despite me quite literally feeling an arrow through my heart when I saw Adam for the first time, which the first pics I saw were from a real sized statue they put in an opening event somewhere I think, I was speechless, but I'll be using the word 'beauty' in its most general form.

I just couldn't stop looking at the long brown hair cascading, the accent of the white hairs that made me dart my eyes in the area of the neck, and the gesture of the head, and Adam just has a type of nose I really love and makes me feel like I was looking at an angel or something lol..... This is where the gender exploration comes for me, as a trans dude it's always a subject of passion for me. That statue had such graceful, and beautiful energy to me. Idk what is it but it transcended any binaries and I felt so pure.

Then I started picking these aspects from GDTs design. I don't want it to sound like I'm assigning a gender to any of the traits that will be mentioned, for me all of these are all mutually exclusive so they can perfectly coexist in a non binary frame view.

That said, One aspect I've been trying to evoke in my drawings is my personal interpretation about the admiration Adam has for Elizabeth and vice versa, which I sense is born from sorority, like, there's such a pure sisterhood specifically in the way they lift each other and they show each other beauty, like being a human, she feels like a bird trapped in a cage and when they see each other it's almost like a mirror, Adam feels the same and Adam (which I personally refer to with they/them pronouns), kind of learns about beauty through her, and we see that all the ugly and brutal things that they experience and see usually are enforced by male figures. Violence, abuse, corruption, etc.

So when Adam frees themself from the tower and starts growing their hair, I interpret it as them discovering that despite the body which is a conjunction of things man made, they can stil choose to chase their sense of identity, and what makes them feel good and human, which I can only think they learn from Elizabeth, because she was the first person that showed them empathy and true connection.

Adam is naturally gentle, but I feel like Elizabeth is a big referential figure for them.

I don't have much to say about the book's design because I truly fell in love with GDTs design, but I can appreciate it and recognize that is an important pillar to explore this modern design.

To finish, I think the strongest aspect I want to explore with my art through the creature is the concept of beauty, gender and humanhood, it helped me take a step further from the binary transition I chose, now I am even more at peace with growing my own hair, dressing how I truly like instead of just choosing male clothes, which I think are mostly boring, I am confident enough now so I just wanna enjoy beauty in small or big things.

Maybe it's too long and cheesy, but it's pretty much my raw feelings towards the creature's design.

But you people here always have been highly opinionated intellectuals with a deep desire to observe art, and not only that, every time I've posted art here I get such cool reblogs with people dissecting every corner of my drawings and that makes me so happy and with a desire to create more, honestly makes me question why I abandoned this place.

I also feel like I don't have to rely on an algorithm here because I know it's sort of a habit here to check the tags and see if there's anything new.
