“Can we have some time to discuss it?”
As they stand face to face in their new garden of eden, Aziraphale asked, “So, what do you want?”
“Because I only want one thing, and this is not what this is about anymore. What do you want, Crowley?”
“You know what I want.” Aziraphale held his breath. “I want a real universe. I want the people to have a change, for free will to be a real thing. People deserve a real chance. Even if there’s no angels. No demons. No us.” Crowley paused, and swallowed. “Ever again.”
Aziraphale turned his back to Crowley.
“Did I say the wrong thing?”
Aziraphale smiled. And turned back. And with a smile still on his face, “I believe we’ve come to a derision”
“A real universe. Where people have free will. No heaven. No he’ll. No God.”
“You realize there would be no you, right?”
Crowley looked at Aziraphale, to check, one final time.
Aziraphale smiled, “We know what we’re asking for.”
“Well then, say good bye”
Crowley and Aziraphale faced each other, and as Crowley opened his mouth, with no thought of what was actually supposed to come out, Aziraphale reached up to touch his face.
“I’m sorry I haven’t done this earlier”
As Crowley realized what was happening he closed his eyes. Knees weakening as the 6000 year long wait caught up to him. Years he spent regretting their first kiss. The force and anger behind it.
This however was pure and heartbreaking. This love unraveled every fiber of Crowleys experience. If it weren’t for the soft skin of Aziraphale lips pressing into his he’d think he was dreaming. The gentle fingers running through his hair and touching his chest. The tear running down his cheek from the final release from regret and longing.
He couldn’t think of any other way for his existence to end.
He reached out for the Angel. Finally being welcome to hold him so tenderly. He dreamed countless nights in the alley about this moment. How soft Aziraphale felt. His skin. His hair in his hands. Every ache. Every glance. Every 300 year wait. Was worth this moment. This kiss.
As Crowley pulled back to admire his angel for the last time he couldn’t help the grin crossing his face. And he’d be dammed, even more than he was, if the smile he was met with didn’t bring him to his knees.
Crowley could barely hear anything over the sound of his heartbeat.
He croaked out a, “what?”
Crowley snapped his head to look out the window. There was a world outside! A free thinking real world!
And they were still there.
No god. No Satan. Just them. In their new world.
‘Your love always made me smile’
God had granted them both their wishes. Crowley got his new world, his real world. And Aziraphale, well, he got Crowley.
As they turned to look at eachother, both over taken with big cheesy grins, Aziraphales smile softened. He reached up to run his thumb along Crowley cheek.
Crowley was confused, but he’s getting to the point where he’s going to need a chair for how weak his knees were getting.
Crowleys eyes had reverted from his snake eyes. He was left with a pair of beautiful amber eyes. Aziraphale was going to have a wonderful time relearning his eyes.
As nighttime fell, Aziraphale and Crowley sat together in the living room of the bookshop, drinking red wine and talking.
“The one thing about having snake eyes,” Crowley started, “Is that you can’t see the stars.”
Aziraphales smile dropped. “You couldn’t see your universe?” Crowley shook his head with a somber smile.
“Well then,” Aziraphale stood and set down his glass “let’s go”
Crowley stood, setting down his own glass, and followed Aziraphale. There were a few rooms in the book shop Crowleys never been in, and Aziraphale’s room was one of them.
“This is one of my favorite places in the shop, back in 1832 it was used as an observatory, and I’ve converted it into a sky light.”
Aziraphale led Crowley to the foot of the bed where they stood directly under the sky light.
Crowley raised his chin. His mouth fell open. He could see the feint outline of the Milky Way.
“It’s nice isn’t it? When I can’t sleep I like to just watch the stars”
They were sanding only a few inches apart, nearly chest to chest, admiring the marvel of their galaxy.
Aziraphale looked back at Crowley, who had the most marvelled look on his face and a wide smile.
Crowley looked back to meet Aziraphale’s gaze, smile still on his face.
But not for the same reason Crowley did.
As the former Demon raised his head to admire the starts again, Aziraphale kept his gaze on him, all the beauty Aziraphale cared to admire was right infront of him, as it had been all along.
