Despite not understanding what was going on in the basketball game, Salim was having a great time. The whole atmosphere was much less intimidating, like what he might have found at any other bar during a sports night. Jason and his friends ordered food for the whole table to enjoy, with enough options that Salim didn't need to worry about eating anything haram.

And then there was Jason himself, his strong hand holding tight to Salim's. It was comfortable, assuring.

“At least this one makes sense,” Salim commented. “There's a basket, and a ball.”

“Jesus, next you're gonna start bitchin' about the metric system,” Jason complained with a roll of his eyes.

“It's easier,” Salim insisted. “Why must you all insist on making your measurements so overly complicated?”

“Sometimes it's important to be precise when you're measuring things.”

Salim opened his mouth to reply. He caught a spark in Jason's eye, the man fighting a smile. “You're messing with me,” Salim accused him. Jason just smirked, squeezing his hand. Salim chuckled, his face going warm as he looked away. He found he didn't mind being teased. He cleared his throat and looked back at Jason. “Are you going to explain this game to me, or are you going to keep being a brat?”

Jason's eyes sparkled; apparently he enjoyed being teased, too.

Watching couples casually touch each other and kiss made Salim glad he chose to be here. He hoped to find that for himself, to hold a man in his arms and taste lips against his.

“Hey,” Jason nudged him. “I can hear you thinking.”

“They look good together,” Salim said, nodding to a couple who had just celebrated a three-point shot with a kiss.

“Yep,” Jason agreed. After a moment of silence, he asked, “You still lookin' for someone?”

“Yes, but... I don't really know how to go past the 'look' part.”

Jason pursed his lips in thought. “You wanna try comin' on a weekend? Saturday, we get some good music going and dance. It won't be as intense as a club.”

“That's a good suggestion. I'll be sure to come by.” Salim brushed his thumb across Jason's knuckles. “Will you be there?”

“I've got your back,” Jason promised.

Usually Salim liked to soak in the bath to relax, but today he needed the constant beat of warm water on his skin that only a shower could provide. He took off his clothes and started the water. He waited until it was just the right temperature before stepping in. Just when he was starting to enjoy himself, he heard a knock on the door.

“Yes?” he responded.

“Sorry, darlin’, just wanted to let you know I’m callin’ in dinner tonight.” Salim shut off the water so he could hear Jason more clearly. “I just ain’t feelin’ up to cookin’ tonight,” Jason went on apologetically. Salim stared at the door thoughtfully for a moment.

“Why don’t you join me, habibi?”

“Seriously?” Jason clarified.

“Don’t make me repeat myself.” There was a muffled laugh on the other side of the door, then it opened and Jason stepped in. He was in his work clothes except for his shoes and looking as tired of this day as Salim felt. Salim trembled a little as Jason’s eyes roamed his naked, wet body. Salim made no objections to this. He turned the water back on and hummed in pleasure as Jason’s hands started moving the soap over Salim’s back.
