Some thoughts on Walt in the Lost Epilogue because I've been rewatching it for a fic I'm writing:
It's kind of weird to me that Hurley sent Ben in to see Walt at Santa Rosa. I mean, I get that Hurley couldn't go in himself, but Ben?? The guy who kidnapped him and blew up his dad?? Okay.
Walt literally says to him, "You here to kidnap me again?" lmaoo.
And all Ben has to say about that is a flippant "What's done is done. Can't change the past." Alright man.
Also, did anyone ever tell Walt that his dad was dead? When Walt goes to visit Hurley in a flash-forward in "There's No Place Like Home, Part 2" (Season 4, Episode 13), he asks Hurley if his dad is still on the Island, to which Hurley says yes even though he presumably knows that he 's dead.
I mean, I guess you could TECHNICALLY interpret that as him saying that his ghost is still on the Island, but I feel like it's still pretty shitty
Either way, I don't think anyone told him. It's confirmed in the Epilogue that he does know, but did he come to the conclusion on his own after Michael didn't come back?
If so, does that mean he doesn't know that Ben is responsible for Michael's death?? He doesn't bring it up in their conversation.
Is that something they're planning on telling him, or???
He tells Hurley that he's been waiting for somebody to come get him, and that he thought he was crazy, which like ☹️☹️
To this Hurley tells him that he's not crazy, that he just needs to go back to the Island because it's "where he belongs", and when Walt asks him why (while in TEARS, mind you), Hurley just says he "has a job for him to do"
Which is the same thing Ben tells him when they're talking. He tells Walt he's special, and when Walt asks what good that will do for him, Ben says "you've got work to do"
Like, I feel like the tone of the Epilogue was supposed to be happy, but to me it just feels like they're using him in a way?? Idk
I am curious about what that job is, though. They do say something vague about him helping Michael, but it's basically left at that.
I kind of headcanon that Hurley and Ben want Walt to be the next Protector of the Island, which I've seen a lot of people say that that's what they think too.
Speaking of "I was waiting for one of you to come and get me", Walt says the SAME THING to Hurley in that flash-forward in S4E13, saying that, after the Oceanic Six came back, he was "Waiting for one of them to come see him" but nobody did (other than John). Like they keep forgetting my boyyyy stopppppp
Also not really sure what the granola bar was about but cool.
