the driver pulled up outside the villa just as april had convinced herself she wasn’t nervous.
“you’re joking.”
the gates were already open.
through them, she could see white walls, palm trees, and a pool that looked unreal in a way that made it feel slightly illegal to be standing there.
the driver glanced at her through the mirror.
“good luck.”
“yeah,” april breathed. “i think i’ll need it.”
she climbed out, suitcase rolling behind her, and made it exactly three steps before another car pulled in behind her.
another girl stepped out.
they looked at each other.
“please tell me you’re nervous too,” april said.
“a bit,” the girl admitted.
“thank god.”
they met halfway between the cars.
“i’m april.”
“lotta.”
they hugged automatically, the kind of hug that happens when neither of you knows what else to do yet but it still feels right.
“should we go in?” lotta asked.
“if we don’t, we’re just going to stand here all day overthinking it.”
“true.”
they turned toward the villa.
before they could move, another voice cut in.
“wait.”
they turned.
a third girl was walking quickly across the driveway, suitcase slightly tipping as she dragged it.
“don’t start without me.”
april laughed.
“we weren’t starting anything.”
“good,” she said, catching up to them. “i’m silver.”
“april.”
“lotta.”
silver nodded once like that was already settled.
“right. we’re best friends now.”
lotta frowned. “we’ve known each other for like ten seconds.”
“still counts.”
april smiled despite herself.
“okay… best friends it is.”
they reached the villa entrance but nobody opened the door.
a beat passed.
then another.
“so…” lotta said. “who’s going first?”
silence.
“i’m not going first,” silver said immediately.
“same,” april added.
“obviously not me,” lotta said.
they stared at the door.
another car pulled in behind them.
two more girls stepped out.
“please tell me we’re not late,” one of them said.
“i don’t think there’s a late,” april replied.
the taller of the two smiled.
“good.”
“i’m raya.”
“marlene.”
introductions happened quickly, a little easier now that there were more of them.
“are we all just standing here?” marlene asked after a moment.
“yes,” silver said. “it’s a shared experience.”
raya looked at the villa.
“someone’s going to have to open that door eventually.”
“not it,” silver said instantly.
aubri arrived next without much noise, stopping when she saw all of them gathered.
“…did i miss something?”
“our collective inability to function,” silver said.
aubri nodded once.
“fair.”
she joined them without question.
then aleya arrived, quieter than the rest, pausing when she saw the group.
“hi…”
april waved her over immediately.
“come here, you’re with us.”
aleaya smiled slightly and stepped closer.
now seven girls stood outside the villa.
still nobody had gone in.
the front gate opened again.
solana stepped out of the last taxi.
she took one look at the group.
“…have you all just been standing here?”
“we’re pacing ourselves,” silver said.
“you’re scared,” solana corrected.
“yeah,” lotta admitted.
solana laughed under her breath.
“right.”
she grabbed her suitcase.
“i’m solana.”
introductions went around again, quicker this time.
she looked at the villa.
“so are we going in or what?”
silence again.
solana exhaled.
“right.”
solana pushed the door open.
inside, the villa was silent.
“oh.”
her voice echoed slightly.
“…yeah, this is insane.”
behind her, the girls slowly followed.
april stepped inside first.
“oh my god.”
lotta wandered straight toward the terrace.
“guys?”
no one answered.
marlene stopped in the middle of the room.
“…i don’t think i’ve ever seen anything like this.”
silver was already halfway up the stairs.
“someone come tell me which bed i’m taking.”
“already?” raya laughed.
“it’s important.”
aubri stood by the mirror.
“the lighting is actually perfect.”
solana dropped her suitcase by the sofa and looked around once more.
“…okay.”
she nodded.
“this is going to be interesting.”
they found the dressing room faster than expected, mostly because silver opened every door she passed.
“this is ours,” she announced, stepping inside.
april was already touching the mirrors.
“this is bigger than my bedroom.”
“same,” lotta said.
solana leaned against the counter.
“question,” she said. “how quickly do we think arguments will start in here?”
“today,” silver answered immediately.
“solid prediction,” raya said.
aubri was already placing her suitcase neatly by one of the mirrors.
“i’m taking this corner,” she said calmly.
“no negotiation?”
“no.”
silence.
“i respect it,” solana said.
raya looked around the room.
“…this is going to be chaos.”
“good chaos or bad chaos?” april asked.
“both,” silver said.
april and lotta ended up on one side of the room, already laughing about something neither of them could remember starting.
silver had claimed the middle mirror and was complaining about nothing in particular.
marlene and raya were standing slightly apart, but their conversation was already slower, easier.
aubri was reorganising her suitcase like it offended her.
solana was sitting on the counter.
“so,” she said, swinging her legs slightly. “what’s everyone’s type?”
“we’ve literally just arrived,” lotta laughed.
“doesn’t matter.”
“i want someone kind,” april said immediately.
“boring answer,” silver replied.
“good answer,” april corrected.
raya hesitated slightly.
“someone i can actually talk to.”
marlene nodded. “and someone with style.”
aubri looked up briefly.
“calm presence,” she said.
solana pointed at her.
“you’re the most serious one here.”
“someone has to be.”
silence.
then—
“pablo gavi,” silver said randomly.
everyone turned.
“what?”
“just saying.”
“you haven’t even met him,” raya said.
“doesn’t matter.”
suddenly, april's phone went off.
the villa suddenly went quiet.
april reached for her phone.
“no way.”
silver was already next to her.
she read it out.
“girls… get ready. your footballers are about to arrive. head to the firepit. #firstimpressions”
a beat.
then chaos.
“oh my god,” lotta said, already moving.
“wait wait wait,” marlene laughed. “i’m not ready.”
“you’re never ready,” silver said, grabbing her sunglasses.
raya exhaled slowly.
“…okay.”
solana stood up from the counter.
“finally.”
april looked at her.
“you’re excited?”
“i’m bored,” solana corrected.
aubri picked up her bag.
“let’s go.”
the sun was lower now, the villa glowing in warm light.
the girls lined up around the firepit, nerves starting to settle in differently for each of them.
april stood next to lotta.
“my hands are shaking,” she whispered.
“same,” lotta admitted.
silver rolled her shoulders.
“this is going to be fun.”
“you don’t know that,” raya said.
“i choose optimism.”
marlene laughed softly.
“i just hope they’re normal.”
“they’re footballers,” silver said. “be serious.”
“that’s not reassuring,” marlene replied.
aubri stayed quiet, watching the entrance.
aleaya stood slightly behind the group, hands clasped together.
“i feel like i’m about to faint,” she admitted.
april immediately reached back and squeezed her hand.
“you’ll be fine.”
then—
the first boy walked in.
joão.
calm, easy smile, taking the space in without trying too hard.
“hi,” he said.
lotta visibly froze.
“oh no,” she whispered.
april laughed under her breath.
then jude.
confident, relaxed, scanning the girls like he was already comfortable.
marlene tilted her head slightly.
“…okay.”
kenan followed.
quiet, observant, polite smile.
aubri’s eyes met his for a second.
lamine came next.
shy smile, almost overwhelmed, but sweet.
aleaya softened immediately.
pedri.
easy grin, hands in pockets, already looking like he’s enjoying the situation.
silver blinked once.
“…yeah.”
then pau.
april didn’t even realise she’d smiled until it was already happening.
“oh.”
silver leaned slightly forward.
“he’s cute.”
and finally—
gavi.
everything shifted again.
he walked in like he belonged there already, smirking slightly as he looked around.
silver straightened.
raya went still for half a second.
solana smiled to herself like she’d been waiting for this part.
the host’s voice came in.
“girls… it’s time to choose.”
a pause.
“step forward for the boy you’d like to couple up with.”
silence.
then—
the girls began to move.
joão stepped in first.
lotta didn’t hesitate.
she stepped forward immediately.
joão smiled as soon as he saw her.
“easy,” he said softly, almost to himself.
he walked over and stood beside her.
lotta exhaled like she’d been holding her breath the entire time.
“hi,” she said quietly.
“hi,” he replied.
and just like that, it was done.
jude came next.
marlene stepped forward.
no hesitation.
he looked slightly impressed.
“i was hoping you would pick me,” he said.
marlene smiled. “good.”
he joined her easily.
kenan.
aubri stepped forward.
calm, steady.
kenan nodded once when he saw her.
“i’m happy with that,” he said simply.
aubri smiled slightly.
“good.”
lamine.
aleaya stepped forward, a little slower than the others.
he softened instantly when he saw her.
“hi,” he said quietly.
“hi,” she replied.
he walked over to her without hesitation.
pau.
april stepped forward immediately.
a second passed.
solana stepped forward too.
april blinked.
then laughed slightly under her breath.
“of course.”
pau looked between them.
he scratched the back of his neck.
“this is… harder than i expected.”
solana tilted her head slightly.
“don’t overthink it.”
april didn’t move.
just smiled.
pau looked at her properly then.
“you were the first person i noticed,” he said.
april’s expression softened instantly.
he stepped forward.
april let out a breath she didn’t realise she was holding.
solana nodded once.
“fair.”
she stepped back.
but her eyes stayed on them for a second longer than necessary.
gavi.
this time, it was different.
silver didn’t step forward.
she just watched.
raya hesitated.
then stepped forward anyway.
solana didn’t hesitate at all.
she stepped forward like she already knew what she was doing here.
a few laughs came from the boys behind gavi.
he smiled.
“three already,” he said.
he looked at silver first.
“you look like trouble.”
silver smirked.
“i am.”
then raya.
“you’re quiet,” he said.
raya shrugged slightly.
“depends.”
finally solana.
he looked at her properly now.
she didn’t look away.
he laughed under his breath.
“you’re confident.”
“i’m bored,” she corrected.
that made him grin.
he turned slightly.
“silver… i think we’d get along.”
silver nodded once.
“yeah. we would.”
he walked to her.
behind him, raya exhaled quietly.
solana tilted her head slightly, watching the exchange like it was interesting rather than disappointing.
then she smiled.
“he’s entertaining at least,” she said quietly to no one in particular.
pedri.
silver stepped forward first.
then a second of hesitation behind her.
raya.
she stepped forward too.
pedri’s eyebrows lifted slightly.
“…okay.”
he glanced between them, amused.
silver smirked.
“choose wisely.”
he laughed under his breath.
“i think confidence is winning this one.”
he walked to silver.
she grinned.
“good choice.”
behind her, raya smiled politely, but her eyes stayed on him for a second longer than she meant them to.
then she looked away.
lucas stepped forward.
raya didn’t hesitate this time.
she stepped forward immediately.
there was a small shift in the firepit energy, quieter, steadier than the others.
lucas noticed her first, like he’d already decided.
he smiled slightly.
“hi,” he said.
“hi,” raya replied.
a pause.
not awkward.
just… measured.
lucas nodded once.
“i’m glad you stepped forward.”
raya let out a small breath.
“me too.”
he walked over and stood beside her.
and for the first time that night, raya relaxed completely.
the host’s voice returned.
“congratulations… you are all officially coupled up.”
a pause.
“for now.”
laughter rippled through the group.
solana leaned back slightly.
“for now,” she repeated quietly.
silver glanced at her.
“what?”
solana shrugged.
“nothing.”
but her eyes flicked once across the firepit.
and landed on pau for half a second too long.

alright, i'll be the one to say it. ao3 and tumblr becoming "mainstream" did so much damage to the community and the writers. i have seen loads of videos and posts about:
1. people hating on writers and fics. writing is something we do for free and for fun. if you stumble upon a fanfic that isn't necessarily your cup of tea or you just don't like, scroll. dont read it. literally leave their page. you don't know if this could be the author's first work that they're so excited about, you dont know if the language they're writing in isn't their first language, you dont know that the writer could be a literal teen and loads of other reasons. fanfictions don't HAVE to be perfect. you write what you want to write because we do it for fun and enjoyment and we want to share that to the world. seriously, what is the wrong with that?..
2. x reader consumers getting WAY too entitled. the number of tiktoks i've seen that say "i run a strict program when it comes to reading fanfics." girl you aint running shit. this is FAN FICTION you're reading. F A N F I C T I O N. there is no denying that most fanfiction writes are beyond talented but just because you read one fanfic that exceeds your expectations doesn't give you the right to talk down on others that don't. people have their own personal writing style, their way of doing things and you talking shit on that isn't right.
at the end of the day, we are all humans, reading and writing is what we do and what we're meant to do. and for you to talk shit about a person WRITING is so insane. we are humans. not some robots that you can tell what to do so you can consume it.
i've seen so so many authors take down their fanfics and losing all motivation to write because of a hate comment. DONT LIKE DONT READ‼️
and to every author reading this, this community values your work and your contribution. we love u and, please, never let anyone's negative words have an effect on you.
