GAZE   SEEMED   TO   LINGER   as   honest   words   hung   thick   in   the   air.      alien   life   form   felt   out   of   place   and   unsure   of   himself;      a   slight   twitch   of   fingertips   and   ever   so   slightly   worried   brows   were   the   only   expression   given   of   his   growing   discomfort.

❛      oh⸻      of   course.      apologies,      i   was   lost   in   thought.      ❜         IT   HADN’T   BEEN   MUCH   OF   A   SURPRISE   once   he’d   realized   it,      but   liqua   found   that   time   was   much   more   precious   to   a   large   amount   of   other   species.      he   could   only   assume   with   a   lot   of   these   life   forms   who’s   existences   lasted   only   tens   or   hundreds   or   thousands   of   years   long   doing   things   became   more   of   a   priority.

FOR   LIQUA’RA   he   could   happily   sit   and   observe   the   ways   of   the   world   for   months,      years   even,      before   he   got   the   urge   to   move   on   and   prevent   boredom   that   began   to   nip   the   edges   of   his   conscience.

MOVEMENT   SUDDENLY   PAUSED   as   warning   made   tipped   ears   twitch,      mouth   ajar   in   freeze   frame   for   a   second   longer;      eyes   of   amber   and   bubblegum   shifted   to   stare   at   keith   before   he   finally   moved   again.      lips   shut,      offending   substance   now   pulled   away   with   features   confusedly   trained   on   it.

BREATH   EXHALED   IN   SHORT   HUFFS   as   body   slowly   calmed   from   exertion   of   inner   power,      head   turning   to   glance   at   paladin   who   seemed   a   little……      shocked,      understandably.

STRAIGHTENING   HIMSELF   UP   and   looking   a   little   more   worn   out   than   he   had   moments   earlier   liqua’ra   offered   a   bashful   expression.        ❛     ……it’s   a   power   of   mine,      but   it’s   dangerous   to   use.      ❜         as   if   point   wasn’t   already   clear   by   the   scattered   remains   of   galra   sentries   and   the   small   section   of   enemy   ship   that   seemed   to   have   suddenly   aged   hundreds   of   years   in   a   matter   of   seconds.

“oh. oh, i see –” her fingers curl against her palm, pressed close to her chest. it takes her a tick to map the differences: the shifting reds and blues and purple across the dark of his hair bears little to any sort of alchemy that existed on altea. even the white of her hair, like that of her family, sits still. everything else, however – the pointed ears, the markings stretching from his cheeks to neck – except, those aren’t quite right either. similar, but the shape different –  

she tilts her head. the smile that quirks at her lips sits easy. “alteans have a similar ability. though…more limited,” she says. “i can’t help but be curious…what drew you towards this appearance?” pink warms her cheeks. her shoulders tense. “oh, goodness, my apologies – that was too forward. you don’t have to answer that.” 

THOUGH   EVER   SO   SLIGHTLY   SURPRISED   by   allura’s   curiosity   liqua’ra   didn’t   find   himself   minding,      simply   relieved   that   she   seemed   to   not   be   too   disappointed;      celestial   being   could   only   imagine⸻      being   separated   from   the   rest   of   your   species   that   was   once   so   tightly   knit   must   be   difficult   to   say   the   least.

THE   SENSATION    WAS      FAMILIAR   ,            a   gasp   falling    from    lips    nonetheless    as     time    &       space    bend   /    fell  into    tiny    pieces      &      aligned    itself     again    within       A    MATTER   OF    SECONDS .             the   rescuer      keith        finally        had    the   chance   to    gaze    at   ,           looked       celestial     /     invincible                       raven’s     indigo    eyes    widening     &     tongue     bound    in    speechless      SURPRISE .          ‘                    THANK   YOU  . .  !          no                       i’m       alright . .          because    of    you .                      who   are    you  ?         ’          eyes        narrowing        within    seconds   ,            hybrid’s     whole     mimic    changed                       step   taken   back    to   put    some        DISTANCE         between    stranger      &        own     body    curiousity    /      doubts   /     awareness      /      suspiciousness       flickered    through        COLORFUL   EXPRESSIVE      crystals     raven    called    eyes ;             nocturnal            lashes     framing    shining    brightness     as     back    straightened      &        locks         embraced        mimic . 

HIGH   ALERT   began   to   ease   as   reassurance   of   well   being   was   given,      backing   off   ever   so   slightly   in   response   when   the   other   retreated.      paladin   was   unharmed⸻      that   was   all   he   needed   to   know   for   nerves   to   calm.         ❛     that’s   good   to   hear.      ❜         hair   naturally   a   canvas   of   charcoal   black   was   endlessly   stained   with   shifting   view   of   galaxies   and   glimmering   stars,      giving   away   truth   that   his   being   was   something   a   little   more   extra   than   simply   ordinary.

“Oh — !” it’s been phoebs since she’s been greeted so formally. at least he isn’t calling her lion goddess as the OLKARI do. that’s particularly embarrassing. she’s 10,000 years out of practice with royal formalities.  “that isn’t necessary…” feels silly to say since he’s already bowing.

“liqua’ra is a lovely name,” she rests a hand over her heart in introduction, “most address me as allura, but sometimes ‘princess’.” snowflake colored hair sways when she shakes her head, “as voltron we protect anyone under galra attack. are you…  truly altean?”

RAISING   BACK   UP   to   proper   stance   he   gave   a   small   nod,      leaving   seemingly   unnecessary   formalities   be   for   now.        ❛      allura.      thank   you   for   your   help.     ❜

🌊  * paladin dozing at her controls after long day of travel left her no choice but to continue a scan of the surrounding system in solitude; glowing screen flew with images and ribbons of code without single touch of a gloved hand.  the blue lion’s engines whirred with a warm contentment – for a brief moment, mech and universe were able to duet in a pleasant harmony.  

        routine scan commences in an almost subconscious manner.  hostile planets: negative.  major debris: negative.  signs of life: positive.  an uneventful system like this will be good for – positive ? 

         mech’s head physically cocks to the side at such a reading - a cruise through constellations had not acquainted mother of the waves with any being… and then they spoke.  brief low tide ceased as waters began to creep inward, snapping to attention  (  how could she have failed to detect a life form directly in front of her ?!  ).   

         inwardly, blue smiles; such innocent communications promise at least pleasant conversation in the midst of a celestial emptiness  (  as long as allura does not wake  ).  “greetings, child. . do not worry.  i have heard much stranger observations about my mech than its size.”  she chuckles, warmth washing her tone as the sun on the waves.  “i see you can be heard even without a voice - from where do you hail?”  

SMALL   LIFT   OF   LIPS   pulled   at   pale   features   as   ethereal   voice   reached   their   conscience⸻      so   it   was   possible   to   communicate   with   the   voltron   lions;      that   alone   was   an   intriguing   enough   realization.

❛     nowhere   specific.      ❜         THEY   ANSWER   IN   EARNEST,      happy   to   keep   lips   sealed   as   conversation   continued.         ❛     everywhere,      technically.      ❜         there’s   a   prick   of   wonder   if   these   beings   knew   of   liqua’ra’s   exact   kind,      showcase   of   natural   form   had   sparked   some   interesting   responses   in   the   past   but   they   assumed   it   would   be   the   easiest   way   to   explain   previous   statement.

ALTEAN---ESQUE   FORM   BEGINS   TO   FADE   as   protruding   limbs   wash   away   into   cosmic   dust,      body   retreating   to   form   of   almost   cartoonish   appearance.      a   diamond   shaped   star⸻      completely   unlike   floating   balls   of   gas   that   much   more   commonly   lit   up   this   vast   void   of   space      ⸻enveloped   by   a   section   of   primarily   seafoam   green   and   blue   glimmering   galaxy   took   place   of   flesh   and   bone.

THOUGH   HE   WISHED   IT   WASN’T   TRUE   this   wasn’t   the   first   time   wandering   star   had   come   across   a   lost   soul   floating   aimlessly   through   twinkling   sky.      approaching   quickly   yet   aiming   not   to   startle   liqua’ra   stopped   at   strangers   side   and   placed   a   hand   upon   armoured   shoulder.
