Critical Reflection
The name Culinary Connoisseur Students came from our original brand CCS (Courtney, Claudia, Shelby). It is memorable and connects all of our workings together. We begun with the idea of cooking directed at students, but we didn’t want to be wasteful so we decided we would “pretend” with ingredients instead of really using them. Originally it wasn’t our intention to create a French theme but as we went on and developed our ideas we realised that was a prevalent theme. Organising to film at Claudia’s in her kitchen was decided because it is a typical student kitchen (University halls) which went well with who we were trying to target. Claudia was our main actress, Courtney was the videographer and I was the director instructing Claudia and Courtney on what shots to get as well as what to say. We felt these responsibilities were easily spread amongst us. Once we’d finished filming and were happy with what footage we had Claudia took on her editing role and edited our two episodes and two teasers. We felt our second episode was stronger than our first. To distribute our videos we definitely could have done better in social media aspects. We were constantly forgetting to post which in turn left our release of everything all at once, leaving little time for people to get excited about our videos. Our idea in general was very strong but our actual execution wasn’t how we pictured it. We made sure to at least make our social media look like we were a ‘brand’. Courtney created a set of logos and we all decided on one, whilst Claudia created a banner and it was uploaded to our YouTube and Twitter accounts. This made us look more legitimate and serious about our work. We chose to post on personal social media accounts as our friends are the target audience we wanted to hit. This did not work out so well for us and potentially we could have instead posted on university forums or pages such as ‘COCA Massey’ on Facebook. Overall, we were happy with our idea and most of our footage it was just predominantly our output of our work that let us down. In future we could learn from this to make something similar more successful and more viewed. - Shelby
