“Alison my dearest darling, I have a sudden craving to watch the Austin powers movies and drink an unnatural amount of wine, And the first angel to share it with who came to mind was you. So come snuggle in my blanket and let’s watch.” He held out his blanket clad arm. 

Emmy didn’t need to be asked twice. She nearly tumbled over on her way to the couch and pulled the blanket over her, snuggling up to Robert. “Look at you! Knowing exactly how to please a lady. In the words of the great... Yeah, baby, yeah!” 

Cara gave a thankful nod before placing down her water bottle, “Great thank you, I never like to just intrude.” A soft laugh left the model

“Fantastic! I feel you, though. That’s why I come here so late in the evening, when everyone’s already finished. Wouldn’t want to seem like I’m taking up their personal space or something,“ Emmy let out a small, awkward laugh. “But now that you’re here, I’ll be demanding you to tell me all of your secrets, because your body’s freakin’ awesome and I’m super jelly right now.“

“You okay if I join you in here?” Cara asked the current gym attendee 

Emmy offered Cara a bright, welcoming smile. “Oh, yeah! Totally. The more the merrier! I was actually just getting started, so a work-out buddy is always welcome.”

‘It has! I feel like I blinked and missed a couple of them. I swear, once a gal hits her late-thirties, the years run faster than Mo Farah or at least, that’s been this one’s experience. —— Ugh, I love that. Seriously. Love it. I used to set myself such ridiculous goals and then I’d feel so deflated when I couldn’t reach them. I’ve learnt it’s much better be a little kinder to yourself when considering resolutions. Ooh, pottery, huh? Were you watching Ghost when you set yourself that target?’

“I know exactly what you mean. Sometimes I feel like it’s been only a couple of months since I had my thirtieth birthday, and the next thing I know, it’s been two years already and I am afraid that I’m just denying shit to myself about the time passing, because it makes me feel like it’s gone too quickly and thus were wasted— does that make sense? —— No, you should totally do something like that, it’s very therapeutic. There’s nothing worse for someone who’s ready to face the upcoming year than a resolution that requires such a high expectation, you will feel like absolute shit when you fail. Now that you’ve mentioned it, I feel like saying ‘yeah’, just so we could talk about Swayze in that movie for an hour or two... but no, it was actually a local flea market. I saw this cute little lady, selling her handmade pottery things and I got such an urge to create something myself.”

So, folks.           We’re almost five months into 2021, which means I gotta ask the question almost everybody dreads being asked. What’s the sitch with people’s New Year resolutions? Are you still going strong or have they already been broken? I’m thinking of doing a Work-In-Progress piece on the realistic slash unrealistic goals we set ourselves just ‘cause it’s January and I’d love to have some personal stories to share. Maybe ya can even come on air with me. 

“Shit. Has it been five already? I feel like so much of it has flown right past me to the point that I still feel like February just rolled around the corner, you know? —— I have started to give myself a whole lot more realistic resolutions for the last five years and it’s been working in my favour, honestly. I don’t feel too pressured to keep them, and if I end up sticking to them, I feel accomplished for basically a bare-minimum effort, and that feels good. For example, this year I’ve told myself I’m going to learn to do pottery. Simple, but effective, you know? If I fail, then there’s not much of a loss. If I go through with it, I’ve got myself a new hobby. You can’t lose.“

“Well you live and learn right. If we are conjoined then can they really room us separately? Wouldn’t that be like some surgery, and to much work for big. Or we could be cheeky and do both, I have cookie dough in the freezer. And we have lots of tv rooms. Could find some blankets to snuggle up under and everything? Get some wine to,”

“You make a fair point. If we end up conjoined, I will always have the best bed-buddy and won’t have to go through the embarrassing stage of asking which one of the strangers would like to sleep with me, you know? — Now you’re speaking my language, Robster. We’re totally doing it. We’ll grab Elliot on the way and you two can tell me all that I’ve missed. The best family reunion. I know Tom, David and Aidan will be so jealous they’ve missed out on this.”

“Exactly, I was about to ring your mom and say how disappointed I am. But I’ll forgive you because of the cuddles. My life was empty without you here, I feel whole again now you are here.”

“That is so not fair, we all know that you’re my mom’s favourite,“ Emmy chuckled before holding Elliot for a little bit longer, then letting him go and looking him over with a bright smile on her face. “I can only say the same. It’s nice to be reunited again. Lookin’ good, too. You’re gonna have to tell me all your secrets.“

“Why take your clothes out of the suitcase, you will only stay in a room for two weeks. Get used to living out of the cases darling. You never have to leave my arms now, we can be conjoined like we were meant to be.”

“Really? I should’ve known this before hand, wouldn’t have packed such a huge luggage. —— Yes, please. Let’s get conjoined. Although it would be a bit of a problem on the weeks when we’re not roomed together, huh? But for now, let’s not think about that and instead get some ice cream or something. Or crash on the couch and annoy everyone else while we hog the TV and watch old RuPaul episodes. Please?“

“Darling, darling, darling, why on earth have you been here more than one hour and have yet to find your way into my arms?”

“Have you ever considered the possibility that I did it on purpose, Robster? I had to allow myself some time to unpack, because otherwise it would be a whole mess, since I probably wouldn’t leave those pair of arms for anything. It was a tough decision to make, not gonna lie.“

A little basket of themed apple and cinnamon naked cakes left by the beds of Robert and Elliot early in the morning with a Valentine’s Day card, reading: 

Family means looking out for each other.. or something cheesy like that. I baked this all morning, better appreciate it, you little buggers.
