SSSS. Gridman and RikkaAkane
Might just be me but while watching SSSS. Gridman I’m getting Rikka x Akane vibes.
In Episode 5 Rikka blushes for the first time and it’s because Akane makes a joke about having Rikka putting sunblock on her.
Not forgetting Episode 4 which establishes several things about the two’s relationship.
1. That they used to be good friends.
2. Both are very NOT interested in The Boys.
3. Rikka genuinely wants to rekindle their ‘friendship’ (And I hope more)
4. Akane doesn’t want to hurt Rikka. (While this is not done explicitly, she doesn’t send Kaijuu after Rikka even when Rikka isn’t being completely cooperative with her questions about Hibiki, which is surprising to say the least because Akane sent Kaijuu after the Arcadia boys just for being too friendly with here.)
The point is that she has a short temper and it just doesn’t go off at Rikka.
5. Plus let’s not forget how quickly Rikka changes her mind from “I don’t really wanna hang out with the Arcadia boys” to “I’m going” once Akane says she’s going too.
On the other hand, Rikka - Hibiki is pretty one sided, sure Hibiki likes Rikka, but Rikka’s completely platonic.
Look you can feel the distance.
Even in the placement of their bags. Here’s Rikka, Hibiki and Utsumi’s bags,
Here’s Akane and Rikka’s bags.
And Do I Have To Mention The ED?
This is not the gaze of just a friend.
They’re so comfortable with each other.
There are also hints of Rikka x Akane in the OP.
Here the OP cuts from Rikka looking into the Right side offscreen, followed by Akane standing outside of the classroom on the Right side of the screen.
Rikka is looking for/at Akane.
Plus a part of me is hoping these held hands in the OP are Akane and Rikka’s.
But that’s just what I think…
