The performance. 

Taka is doing a project about the reaction of Pidan.

I found that the time lapse video in her project are attractive and the decaying of meats and beans can be an interesting concept and the basic structure of a performance. Thus, we decided to create a live performance using the time lapse of the reaction of meats and beans.

In the performance, it divided in to 3 parts, the first part we want to show the footage without any effects, second part is with effects, and the last part is more crazy and have rotation of the footage to create the mood of decaying.

And the sound, Taka was chose some foley sound such as chewing/tearing/chopping at the beginning because of the visual. However, I think those foley sound too realistic and hard to use for the performance, then I told Taka to try to make some edit for the foley to make it a little bit glitchy but can keep the feeling of chewing/tearing/chopping. And this also can match to our concept.

Left hand side is the video and the effects. Since I think the footage are already attractive, I used ‘jit.op’ , ‘jit.rota’ , and ‘jit.xfade’ the do all the effect and transition of the footage.

Right hand side is the webcam, we want to use webcam to mix some real elements of the decaying, and I just set a ‘jit.xfade’ to switch two cam only, after that, use ‘jit.op’ to mix with footages.

I divided the footage into 5 parts for easier control, then, I use two ‘gswitch’ to select the footage for the ‘xfade’ and the ‘op’, then the ‘rota’. I didn’t use any vizzy due to the loading problem of the max and my computer, it cause my computer quit easily. After that, I add ‘sel’ to all the things that I need to control, to make the control more conveniently.  

The presentation mode 

For the easy control in the performance, I want to make the patch more clear to have a clear mind set.

The first row is the footage that I read and play, each pwindow have to reload 3 footages, that’s why I want to have a preview.

The two pwindow in the left below the first row, is the footage selected for the ‘op’, and the ‘message’ is send to the ‘gswitch’ for select the footage above. 

The ‘text button’ are the effect of the ‘op’ and ‘M’ is the switcher for the wrap and rotation of the footage.  And the right two pwindow is the preview of ‘op’ and ‘rota’.

The big pwindow is the final image preview. And the real window can use ESC to make it to full window.

For the sound part. It is directly connect to the ‘dac’ and set some sel for the control.
