why are there so many posts about asexuals being immune to sirens. people. sirens don’t lure you in with sex (necessarily). they sing about whatever it is that you want most. they could sing about mothman or cinnamon toast crunch and guess what then your asexual pirate is fucking dead
this is the only kind of ace discourse i ever want to see on my dash. the only kind. ever again. good job
Do you think the sirens would be grateful that they finally get some variety?
“Oh my god we can finally just sing about pasta thank the fucking gods.”
I’m not asexual but I’m fairly certain sirens would do a far better job luring me into the depths with a song about pasta rather than sex…
I mean.
“WHAT THE FUCK STAY AWAY FROM THE ROCKS.”
“FUCKER THEY SAID THEY HAVE FETTUCCINE CARBONARA AND HOT GARLIC BREAD OVER THERE HANG ON BITCH.”
This is true; Odysseus heard them promising him knowledge of the future. So the next time you see artwork like this:
Remember those sultry naked chicks are saying “We’ll tell you the winning lotto numbers.”
Them: “We have unlimited wifi at incredible speeds~” Me: *diving headfirst into the water*
This post is a blessing
Hard pill for some to swallow but missionaries were 100% soft colonialists or even hard colonialists, any defence of them is laughable at best
I can’t believe that the sacredness of shared meals is not well known???
Mealtime is an extremely important cultural and social ritual. There are psychological benefits for cooking for other people, and serving a meal stabilizes the emotions between the provider and the receiver. Cooking with your partner, like accomplishing any task together, strengthens relationships. Eating together strengthens communal bonds and helps with mental health. Sharing the same food with someone else builds trust, cooperation, and a sense of connectivity. It’s a shame how in our fast paced society we don’t value the importance of regularly breaking bread with one another
Just FYI if you have celiac disease or another food allergy that makes it difficult to participate in food-based rituals (eating wedding or birthday cake, eating traditional religious foods, hotdogs at the ballpark, popcorn at the theater, barbecue with family, etc.) this can lead to a real sense of alienation based on all the reasons above; food is bonding.
This can be especially true if you are around a lot of people who are bothered when you won’t “just have a little bit” or who say “you can cheat just this once” when they’re offering you the food that they made that is dangerous to you.
Building your own food-based rituals and communities is a form of self-care for people with food allergies. If you can find a group of people who will cook with you and accommodate you never let them go.
I have a particular kind of cupcakes that I always bake for myself to take along in my purse to weddings so I can share in the fun of having the dessert. I bake gluten-free holiday treats to share with friends and family. Once a week I go to my parents’ house and we cook a meal together that I can eat and we all can share.
It’s important, it’s worthwhile to make the time for. And people who refuse to let you form your own rituals to be closer to them aren’t acting with your best interests at heart.
Be kind. Eat well.

Everyone shouldn’t have to hit rock bottom to love themselves. That’s just the society we’re all unfortunately born in — the one where you have to hit your worst and hate yourself in order to love yourself? Those laws only exist because self-hate is so prevalent. Body positivity only exists because body negativity is the norm.
Why women are 50 percent more likely to be misdiagnosed after a heart attack and 17 percent more likely to die in a car crash.
“In medical lore, the term “Yentl syndrome” has come to describe what happens when women present to their doctors with symptoms that differ from men’s — they often get misdiagnosed, mistreated, or told the pain is all in their heads. This phenomenon can have lethal consequences.
Many, many women have had this experience when they go to the doctor. I had it myself, years ago. As a spate of articles about the phenomenon has come out in the past couple of years, more people have begun talking about a “gender pain gap.”
In a new book, Invisible Women: Data Bias in a World Designed for Men, the British journalist and feminist activist Caroline Criado Perez argues that this is part of a larger problem: the “gender data gap.” Basically, the data our society collects is typically about men’s experience, not women’s. That data gets used to allocate research funding and make decisions about design. Because most things and spaces — from pain medicationsto cars, and from air-conditioned offices to city streets — have been designed by men with men as the default user, they often don’t work well for women.
Even when researchers do gather data from women as well as men in their studies, they often fail to sex-disaggregate it — to separate out the male and female data they’ve collected and analyze it for differences. That’s crucial, because a new pain medication that’s ineffective for men may work great for women, but you’d never know it if you mixed all their data together.”

“The time for half-measures is over,” the Democratic presidential candidate said. “My broad cancellation plan is a real solution to our student debt cris...
To address the problem, Warren is suggesting what she calls a “truly transformational” approach: wiping out $50,000 in student loan debt for anyone with a household income below $100,000. People with student loans and a household income between $100,000 and $250,000 would receive substantial relief as well. At that point, “the $50,000 cancellation amount phases out by $1 for every $3 in income above $100,000,” Warren wrote.
That means someone with a household income of $130,000 would get $40,000 of their loans wiped out. Someone with a household income of $160,000 would get $30,000 in relief.
People with household incomes above $250,000 would not be eligible for debt cancellation.
Under Warren’s proposed plan, up to 76 percent of households with student loan debt would receive “total loan forgiveness,” according to an economic analysis of the proposal by academics at Arizona State University, Brandeis University and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Ninety-five percent, or 42 million Americans, would be eligible to have at least some of their debt canceled.
The plan would particularly benefit black, Latino and lower-income households, as well as households headed by people who never finished college, the researchers said. Wiping out the debt would cost the government an estimated $640 billion, they noted.
…
The plan to broadly cancel student debt and institute a universal free college program is estimated to cost a total of $1.25 trillion over 10 years. Warren claims the cost would be covered by passing a separate plan to annually tax the wealth of households worth more than $50 million.
The academics who analyzed the report argued that the overall cost would likely be offset by additional tax revenue that would come from the proposal itself, which they said would serve as a middle-class economic stimulus.
“Debt cancellation cascades to relieving thousands of dollars in interest payments while leaving several hundred dollars each month for consumption and investment,” the researchers wrote in a letter to Warren. “It would likely entail consumer-driven economic stimulus, improved credit scores, greater home-buying rates and housing stability, higher college completion rates, and greater business formation.”
Anyone want to start an Elizabeth Warren support blog with me?
I don’t think I’m informed enough to help you, but she pulled me away from Mayor Pete with her decisive stanch on impeachment. I’m an automatic monthly donor! First candidate I’ve done that with. I’m totally in for Liz!!!!
Woohoo thanks! Yeah she needs a lot of help financially because she’s not accepting big donor money. I’m doing $10 a month for now and can hopefully chip in a bit more depending on how things go for the family :-)
all my love, thought and prayers to those in sri lanka.
where are the billionaires now??? three churches were bombed during easter services. where is the outrage and mourning, and signs of support?? 207 people are dead. 207.

58-year-old non-Jewish victim repeatedly stabbed in attack said to be similar to two recent anti-Semitic murders in the country
this shit is happening so frequently in europe and esp france that it gets almost no coverage. remember when charlie hebdo happened and there was no attention given to the kosher market massacre? goyim dont care. השם יקום דמם for all victims of antisemitism.
this needs more attention. it is getting absolutely swept under the rug with the notre dame fire and wont even be a blip in french media which will be covering only the fire for weeks to come, especially considering how much they Love Jews.
the fire is even spreading islamophobia and antisemitism in “conspiracy theories” like this:
we need to look ahead at the very possible “retaliation” attacks against jews and muslims in france in the coming months. france has had an epidemic of them that few non-muslim goyim are aware of/care about. here are just a few examples of antisemitic attacks in france lately:
these are only a few examples. antisemitism NEEDS to be taken seriously. it NEEDS attention and NEEDS education and compassion.

FINALLY, an accurate representation of my two brain cells
WHAT’S HER NAME?!
Her name is Sky Brown! She’s a Japanese skater and surfer who’s been skating since she was 3 years old and got her first sponsorship at age 7 for surfing. She’s already kicked adult pro skaters’ butts in competitions all over the world and has raised money for disadvantaged kids in a couple of different countries. Sky wants to compete for Japan in skateboarding at the first Olympics to host the event (Tokyo 2020, when she’ll only be TWELVE!) because “I wanna be young and show every girl that you can do it, just go for it — even though you’re little!”
These difficult conversations are more important than ever. Here’s how to overcome the roadblocks.

Yes to all and to add one, tone policing. If they can’t think of any other way to dismiss what you are saying, they will critique the way in which you said it. No matter how you said it, they will say you are angry or aggressive.
[Text in the images above written below]
5 Roadblocks people use to shut down difficult conversations about race.
Derailment
“What about Black-on-Black crime?”
“Are Black lives not worth protecting?”
Minimization
“I don’t think they meant it that way when they said it.”
Remind them of intention vs. impact.
Reduction
“It’s not like Black people are the only people dying.”
“No, they aren’t, but Black people are disproportionately dying in this country and all over the world. Can we at least talk about that?”
Tokenism
“My boyfriend is Black.”
Remind them: Having a Black boyfriend doesn’t mean that you’re not racist and in fact the idea that you wouldn’t be racist because you have a Black boyfriend is in fact racist.
Hurt
“I feel really unsafe having this conversation right now.”
“Are you feeling unsafe or are you feeling uncomfortable.”
